Seeing as the creature seems to be "dripping" upwards, I'd assume it's more likely liquid-based. Now, the problem will be that there is just a second fire spirit nearby. What if they influence eachother's fire and it goes out of control? This seems rather suspicious - like Loup set this up and knew that a creature, and what kind of creature, would come with the plant. A water based creature might be more impervious to the Annies' fire-weapons, so this could be a real challenge for them. Is this a rather crafty prod by Loup to get them to work together, and also make clear that they'd better focus and also work together to get his gifts back, or there would be more "tests" of their abilities and cooperation like this...?

Creepy, but not as uncivil and threatening, as you'd guess he'd be. We may see back-to-back "flame on", next. It'll be interesting to compare and contrast their use of their flames. Courtnie may be different from the few months more practice with her powers, but she may also be different in her style of use. I always got a smoke vibe from Surma, especially in the ether. come to think of it, Surma's hair often resembled billowing clouds of red smoke as well... maybe symbolic of her underlying elemental and style of controlling/interacting with/employing it.

Anyone noticed how Urban Annie and Sylvan Annie has now shadows in distinguishable colours? I interpreted this to indicate there is some dust (or steam from the pipes?) in the air, scattering the green light and making the air glow faintly. Sylvie appears a bit greener because we are looking through more the "greenish airglow" to see her, due to her greater distance.

except Loup was able to "see" where the Mega-tree seeds lived and activate them: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1963... though this was before the purple bubble-shield first went up. Perhaps that shield has your +12 etheric stealth properties too.. I interpreted that as related to Ys' affinity (or rather... control) of the trees. I agree, but you said it better: "see" = affinity for (ability to sense, to grok the seeds), activate = control

Or, as was sort of hinted at in this page, the Court is capable of hiding things from etherically powerful entities like Coyote/Loup. They probably have the whole Court covered in this Shield of Etheric Stealth +12, so Loup can't effectively look for things inside it. He's likely here now because whatever bunker they're in is either outside this protection, or he stuck Sylvan Annie (love that name) with a tracking device of some description (effectively making her an unwilling "trojan horse"...). except Loup was able to "see" where the Mega-tree seeds lived and activate them: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1963... though this was before the purple bubble-shield first went up. Perhaps that shield has your +12 etheric stealth properties too.. Sylvie/Sylvan Annie for the win! (Better than Fannie...)

I think that the vial of water is going to get opened, and an entire lake is going to spill out. .... and out of the lake, riding a scallop shell, Venus-like, with ears gently flapping in the breeze, Coyote is reborn. With a wink and a wicked grin.... edit:sink--->wink! (never could type...)

[I had assumed anyone who did not care for the fanfic would not go in to read it after looking once (very easy to avoid), and anyone who enjoyed it at least a little would read it. Based on views I was guessing 20 to 40 people did enjoy it a little. It is fanfic/parody/joke/caricature, obviously different people have different senses of humor. Sorry if I have offended by having people portrayed as shallow. Real world I see comics full of cleavage, and teen romance novels where the dream guy is a billionaire, doctor/lawyer/top spy or otherwise powerful... eg. in "Pride and Prejudice" Mr. Darcy is the richest guy... Real life people go in debt to buy an SUV or pair of high heel shoes to act "sexy"/"winning". Damn, I am going to Necro this thread just to say that I was stumped for Daedalus interruption, for once! But it was better this way. Or Terribler, I mean. thanks for Necro-ing the thread; I hadn't seen it before! A fine twisted bit of fanfic, a tip of the hat to davidm!

Parley seems too happy/pleased for this to be some sort of set-up for a death-match. I think its meant as an opportunity for the two Annie's to reconcile. Perhaps by working together to figure out a way out and/or a way back from where they've been bipped to? Kat looks adorably ... hmmm... sheepish? Since she probably planned this whole scenario, she's probably feeling a bit guilty that she has to force the Annie's into this, and/or a bit worried how it will work out. I think Paz just doesnt trust Frannie and is giving her the evil eye. Winsbury looks a bit concerned ...

5) I'm still not convinced that the two Annies are biologically different ages. Forest Annie actually noticed the time skip because she saw that her hair had grown, implying that her body aged like Court Annie's did, even though mentally she only perceived a brief conversation with Loup. Assuming that neither was somehow scarred or suffered from malnurtrition, the two Annies should be at least as similar as identical twins (really, more so). One thing to consider is that if Frannie's body actually had aged normally (along with her hair), she would have starved to death. So Loup must have either magically cancelled her metabolic processes, or (easier) her body was frozen in time like most of the rest of the forest. My wild spec guess on why her hair grew was that it was directly attached to her fire elemental, which somehow resisted the time halt completely. Basically, the fact that Frannie is part elemental allowed the rest of her to partly resist the time freeze, so that she experienced time at the same rate as the only other unfrozen thing in the Forest - she was on (slowed down relative to Court) Loup time. Just a wild spec tho.... but I do think they are different biological ages.

Instead of truly being identical "flames", what if they're both different from the original Annie, ever so slightly? Courtnie more "courty", and Frannie more "foresty"? The fact that their fire elemental sides are quite different in appearance ( www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2069 ) might argue for this. But then again, the different experiences (and consequent healing?) of the elementals, considering the different timelines they've experienced in Frannie or Courtney could also explain the differences. I dunno.....

I wondered whether the "before we get to that part" might be something like Andrew being no longer Court Medium because there's no longer a demand for that position, now that the Court and Forest's diplomatic ties have been severed. They were sloppy about naming a Court medium before, back when Coyote's promise not to attack was in effect. Now that the chaotic Loup is in charge, has attacked, has devastated large areas of the Court, and continues low level conflict (bound dogs & shadow men), Id think that they would want to keep a medium quite handy, in case a negotiation opportunity presents itself (whether for a truce or a resolution of some sort).

Hmm, so the surprised looks by Paz and Annie were because neither had seen the ultra-ripped Parley before now?
edit: No, probably not. Annie looks to the side to see Hulked-up-Parley, away from what surprised her...

Calling it right now: there's something (or maybe someone) else in the room, opposite where Kat and Courtney are standing. That's what the two of them are looking at in panel 3, and it's what startles Paz in panel 5 and Frannie in panel 6. (I would love it if it were Zimmy, but Kat's too relaxed for that. I bet it's something Kat created, which she's going to use to test the Annies.) That's how I read it too. But what/who would be something that surprises, maybe even scares a bit, both Frannie and Paz? And that Kat is nonchalant about... maybe an extensively improved/modified/humanized body for Robot or Arthur (recently freed from Spang shield duties)?

"Kat tries hard" - this sounds like Kat has been working long hours to design some sort of Annie-test or Annie-fusion-device or something. Some typically Kat technical/scientific cure for the predicament.
Also, threat having been delivered, her love protected, Paz is pleased and quickly drops "fierce Paz face" and all is well in the world (last panel). Yay!

The robots have been altered and we don't know by whom or why. Kat is or was their Goddess. Does she retain control over them? Or is this a manifestation of her control over them? Anyway I am wondering what side Kat is on, and whether Paz's loyalties are compromised (if Kat's are). I'm a bit worried (in a fiction-reader way, heh) about Robot and Arthur. Excellent points. There's also Bobby (Paz' assistant) and the Robot King, and what about poor Boxbot! Boxbot green-crabbed would be doubly horrible! (With a new "improved", very sinister "Hellooooo....")

Am I missing something, why can't she have been asleep all that long? We don't know what time she went to bed, what time it is now, not even how long it's been since we last saw Annie. At first I thought the shading on the skyline was indicative of a sunrise/sunset, but I just went back and checked Power Station and it's actually a stylistic thing that's always been there and I didn't notice until checking it to reply. So I'll retract that statement, it really could be any time at night. Could be an indication of background light from the Court due to its streetlights... I imagine the court being like a city spread in all directions, so the street lighting should give a bit of "horizon glow".

Maybe I'm alone in this, but to me it looks like she's ashamed. My wild guess is she's going to throw her to the robots for reasons yet to be explained. That would be an excellent hard dark left turn for the story to take, and very scary! (It crossed my mind too, but I couldnt think of why she'd do it... especially since Winsbury would see her do it - they'd all have to be in on it!) Very dark.... throwing Frannie to the wolves ... crabs ... evil robots!

She is going to confide in Annie that KAt has not been the same since the attack, that the Grow-A-Robot project and new shenanigans have robbed them of time together and that she doesn't know what to do. Kat is becoming Techgoddess, thus becoming deaf to her former lover... Seems the most likely explanation to me. That or Paz knows that Courtnie is a fake. A more scary (but probably less likely) explanation is that Paz is actually holding Frannie back for a non-personal reason. The way she is not smiling, but with eyes cast down kind of sheepishly, makes me think maybe she is about to say something she's uncomfortable with saying, but has to say anyway. Whatever it is she wants to say, she doesn't want the others to hear. Maybe she actually doesn't agree with the plans Kat et al have for Frannie, or is uncomfortable with them. She feels disloyal to Kat, but has to warn Frannie what is up, so she knows what she is heading into, and can avoid it if she chooses. Not really sure this is correct, just a possibility. Kinda worrisome tho....

I've actually always wondered why the forum has chosen to call Forest!Annie Fannie-- while it's a name in the US, isn't Fannie a naughty word in the UK? That choice has perplexed me as well. I haven't been calling her Fannie myself since "fanny" is slang for "butt" in the US and "vagina" in England, so in either case it just felt kind of weird. People do what people do tho, I guess? Yeah, that's why Ive been sticking with F!Annie; though Fannie is a (little used, old fashioned) name, the other connotations made it kinda weird. But I like Frannie! More common name too.
