Annie trying to swear seems like it'd be the most awkwardly out-of-place thing you could put in this comic without breaking with the genre/themes completely.

the timing of the "scratch scrape" interruption conveniently defuses the mounting tension.... an indication they are being monitored, and diversions quickly applied?

Is it funny because she guessed right, or because she couldn't be farther off the mark?

Just a quick notice: Your link still goes to 2103. I wouldn't have read Court Annie's expression as laughter if Tom hadn't mentioned laughing in his page description. Still don't, really. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see where the scritching and scraping came from.

How could people not notice how far apart they've grown in these six months. Courtnie is so different frome baseline-Annie, that it's just suspicious...

Courtney's expression is pretty weird here. Is she amused by the near homophone? Happy to have an excuse to act hostile? Does she have a sick burn she can't wait to give? If only boxbot didn't interrupt, we would probably have found out.

Come on, Frannie, if you're gonna swear do it properly or just call quits. Whatchu gonna do when the final destination of the underground is... A rap battle??!?!?

I think she can't help but laugh because she knows she would have used the very same expression in Forest!Annie's place. You know that feeling when someone says something that you were just about to say, and the surprise and annoyance turns into amusement?

Both Annies in panel two are looking at the speech bubble. They must be realizing they're in a comic!

Courtnie doesn't like being compared with Jack's ex-girlfriend. Oh, right! Frannie still doesn't know she and Jack have been going out for, like, five months now.

I am guessing that court Annie knows she is slowly losing her life to Forest Annie in same way her mom lost life to her when they were together. Which in turn may force forest Annie to separate/go to forest in order to save Court Annie, which fits in with Loups plans.
Hostility, wanting to get away from her, are the results.

Awww, I've always wanted to be part of a coven and do witch-activism, but I'm just too agnostic. Being called a witch would make me laugh, too.

Were it not for Tom's comment I would not have read that as Pft!Annie laughing either. Maybe if she emphasized the "me, as in "don't call me a witch" it would have read better? Otherwise it's just weird and suspicious, like "don't call me a witch, I'm a changeling" or something. Has it been speculated yet that when Loup created another Annie, he used an aspect of her personality as the base? that could explain why Pft!Annie is so...charming.

this page is really funny to me. I hope the plot twist of this chapter is that the Annies get along perfectly well because Annie has finally learned the skill Self Esteem

I wonder if the smile is of the "Wait, did I seriously use to sound that way? Oh my" variety.
Or maybe "Did she seriously use the word witch as an insult? Lame-o." only she will later realize she would've done the same thing half a year ago.

Since when is "witch" an insult in Annie's ears? Or did she decide at the last moment to swap out the "b" for a "w", just in case the other Annie is actually also her, and she does not want to speak so harshly to herself?

Courtnie has now unironically "pft"'d more than once in the span of a few minutes. I now very much hate her. Kick her ass, Frannie, and take your place as Top Annie!
