Oh for fuck's sake dude, you're passionately defending the idea that hey maybe a comicbook character I like is a lesbian. I think you need to sit down, take some deep breaths, and realise that the chances of the character being gay have long since gone from slim to pretty much nada. Besides, if anyone's gonna try batting for the other team, the smart money's on Reynardine 1) Not a dude. Said that three comments ago. 2) I don't think Kat is a lesbian. I don't think anything will ever happen between her and Annie - and even if I did think so, I still wouldn't think Kat is a lesbian. Since when does having a romantic relationship with one girl make you a lesbian? I do think, however, that people going "SHE'S 160% STRAIGHT YOU GUYS BECAUSE AT AGE 13 SHE TALKS ABOUT BOYS" need to accept the fact that people who like the pairing don't give a crap, and that it's a dumb argument. We don't know what Kat will be like in a few years, and if some of us would like to think that she and Annie are totally gaying up, it's our right. So stop trying to convince us that gosh golly WE'RE DISGUSTING PERVERTS IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN or whatever. If I had a nickel for every time someone called me a pervert for supporting relations between fictional female characters... I'd have five cents. Its also fun to see someone turn around after making a claim like that and support heterosexual "shipping" as if the line of perversion is based on sexual preference. My assumption is that (subconsciously or otherwise) some people will see lesbianism as only something porn is made about and not... Well... What it is. Having the characters being below the age of consent only adds to the fire... Its a slippery slope... And sometimes those "D'aaww" moments of romantic subtext can just not be worth the personal attacks made on us for enjoying them. I know I'm not perfectly free of perversion myself, but this isn't a part of myself that I think I should be ashamed of. Some things... are just cute... Like puppies or kittens... And young girls finding companionship in one another... Because I know what horrible relationship fodder my own gender can be sometimes Yeah, I love you. Thing is, though - Annie/Kat shippers get a hate thread that apparently never dies because ewwwww underage lesbians!!1, while Annie/Reynardine is totally cool and acceptable - because an underaged girl and a centuries years old body-snatching demon who used to be an evil murderer is so much better, right? God, get more homophobic, fandom, why won't you.

But Tom, the potential lesbianism of fictional characters is serious business!

God, get more homophobic, fandom, why won't you. I don't think its as simple as all that. With all the other factors in this, we can't prescribe homophobia to all of the incidents. Some times its immaturity and personal religious beliefs and lack of thought on the part of some people when they make their comments. Not all the information is in front of us and we sometimes need to give people the benefit of the doubt or try not to get worked up on everything that looks like a personal attack.

And sometimes it just...simply put...doesn't feel right.
Who says it has to be as complex as homophobia, religious beliefs, or even political beliefs?
I think Tom's right. We're all being too serious about this kind of thing.

I read this funny comic a while back, I think it was Rob and Elliott or something asimilar. I cannot do it justice or remember what it was but anyhoo.
Man: Hey dude, whatcha get up to last night? Dude: Went out clubbin' and got laid, man! How bout you? Man: Yeah, got totally stoned dude! How about you Randy? Big Burly Bloke A.K.A Randy: I watched a film about two girls taking their friendship to new heights with each other. Dude: *nudges him* Watched some porn did ya mate? Big Burly Bloke A.K.A Randy: ... Yeah... That's what I did...
(Flash back of BBB AKA R watching tv)
TV: *Let's get out of here Thelma!* TV: *K, Louise*
BBB AKA R: *sobs* It's so beautiful!

This thread totally jumped the shark. This is probably my first and last time posting in it.
Why, exactly, is this such a controversy? If it's going to be a part of the comic, I can dang well wait until Tom makes a decision, because it's his comic. If it's never going to come up, then we're all pulling a J.K. Rowling here, and this should be shrunk down and stay in the Wild Spec thread. Honestly, guys, I don't see this webcomic as a romance; I see it as an awesome adventure with multitudes of mystery, beautiful backgrounds, and a crazy wolftree. If you see it another way, of course there's nothing I can say that'll change that, but does it need to be argued so hotly?

It would be nice to not have the resolution of Heroine X falling in love with Twuu Wuv Boy at the end.

It is her charm. Now, as most men would (I so boldly assume), I wouldn't mind to see a romance between those two, but it's not why I read GKC. I read it because I want to know what happens to them! If there is romance in any way, between any two characters, well, that's part of the story. I am just a reader, and I'm glad, whichever way the story goes.

And having her end up with a girl or, hell, Reynardine would be just that shake-up that trope needs.

I'm actually against Annie retaining her asexuality over the long term, because to me it would make her an incomplete character (this doesn't mean to say it has to ever be specifically addressed, but she at least needs to develop indications of attraction to people). And personally I don't care who she ends up with (man, woman, shadow person, fairey?, etc.) as long as it's done properly. Though, I'd stay away from 'true love' because it always makes me a little bored when characters (and/or the narrator) starting spouting that because it makes the relationship feel cheaper somehow.
That's my...$5.10.

As an person of the persuasion in question, I think I can say with some authority that many times orientation can come as a surprise. You can find yourself lusting after someone you've know for a very long time when the thought "ohSNAPtheyaresohot" hits you like a train of emotion ramming into your living room at 4:00 pm on an idle Tuesday.
But enough about sapphic realizations, let us talk about the implications to the story. Tom seems to have a bit of a "the past repeats itself" theme and having her be straight would be fitting with that theme (assuming nothing went on between Surma and... Kat's mom before they got married or eloped or whatever to their respective mates. I forgot her name so sue me). Then again, he could turn it around and make it a "breaking the cycle" thing. However, from a story structure point, Tom has introduced no male potentials (until now maybe?) for either character. Well, potentials that they could have functioning relationships with anyway. Elgamore's too old, Mort's too dead, that one guy Kat liked is too bird... you get my point.
I am reminded of two things by this, overall.
1) "School Uniform" by the Pipettes. Youtube it.
2) Ouran High School and Haruhi's apparent lack of gender identity. It reminds me of Annie.

Haruhi Suzumiya does not strike me as similar to Annie. Yes I know that's not the point you were trying to make.

I think the Yes I know that's not the point you were trying to make. means that he knows the difference =) Not if we're reading english, because if he knew that the Haruhi the previous poster was referring to wasn't the one he was addressing his entire comment is superfluous and thus pointing out that the two characters aren't similar is stupid beyond stupid.

Um.At first I was a little disconcerted at this topic (still am) but after eading through,I do somewhat understand the reason why people pair Annie and Kat together. They do seem to balance each other out with their personalities, and bring out the best in one another. However, I don't see any attraction between them, they seem to be the dynamic,'best friends forever' duo.Besides, if they do get together,it'll destroy the 'best friends forever' feel and interaction I like. It's all a matter of opinion of course.
However, many seem to be taking this thread wayyy too seriously (like I just did XD ) Someone needs to get Annie a guy her age that's either a mythical being or in some other form than a human...but looks like one XD
