Question to all those who have already recorded or are planning to. What kind of microphone are you using? Where would you recommend one look for it and related equipment? I'm a complete beginner when it comes to recording things, but I'd like to learn more.

I have an iMac with the mic built right into it. Try buying an iSight, if you can afford it.

It's a pretty good start, considering it's the first audition. I'm sure everyone else will use it as a baseline to. As a test, I'll see if I can somehow modulate your voice sound a little spookier.

Cool. I can modulate it myself, if that makes things easier.

Sounds like fun. What about the action scenes, are you planning on having a narrator for them? Wouldn't our Annie take the narrator role? Yes, that's why I'm asking, you could get creative with it. The narrator might be an older, adult Annie. Of course this all depends on what the author says.

Of course this all depends on what the author says. Which brings up an interesting philisophical question: If the creator of something gets involved with a fan project based on his/her work, is it still a fan project?

As I've mentioned before, I think we should get an actual narrator to read third person scripts when necessary. You only really need to put one in a couple times per chapter. Most of the other things that happen can be explained by sound effects or don't need explanations at all.

OK, so, I've made some recordings of myself as an audition for the part of Ysengrin, but I don't have any way to combine them. It is sad. Does anyone have any suggestions on something I may be able to get for free that would allow me to combine WAV files? Or should I perhaps upload the individual soundbytes somewhere? There are a number of them, and they're very short...

I'd like to audition for Ms. Jones and Kat. Now that I'm trying out reading them, I'm thinking I may actually be a better Kat than Jones.
Sigh... I always like to believe in the delusion that I sound older than I am. But it is kind of sad that a twenty year old sounds more like a twelve year old than an adult.

I must be ignorant of what "fan project" means. If the director of a movie wants to stay true to the book the movie is based off of, wouldn't he consult the author?

I can do do a pretty good Annie or Kat and pul off a good British accent! But my microphone is not of insanely good quality so forgive me it sounds a bit muffly.

Just finished recording an audition for Rey, it'll be up tonight. Let me know if/how you think I should do Sivo and Wolf-form...I was thinking I'd just deepen the voice a bit. Also if you think I'd be better for a different part don't hesitate to let me know! EDIT: Alright, it's uploaded. Not sure when it'll be finished processing, but go have a look! By the way, I'm a big fan of the spooky Zimmy music. EDIT AGAIN: Do you guys mind if I befriend my regular YouTube account just for ease of getting to all the videos? EDIT THRICE: It's done. Linky.

YAY A KAT! Welcome aboard
We do need more female auditioneers; it'd be somewhat difficult to do this project without, say, an Annie.

Well darn, I can't seem to edit the clips together at all. I hope I don't have to record them all again in one take, that would not be fun. EDIT: Never mind, I got it. I'll upload the full audio soon. And there we go, you can watch/listen here. It's not perfect, but I think I at least did alright. I tried to change it up a bit with the last one, and I think it worked out pretty well. I definitely sound angrier.

Hey, this thing is actually coming together. I'd just like to comment on some people's auditions, if they don't mind. EDIT THRICE: It's done. Linky.I quite liked that. You're on the right track there. Maybe a bit more emotional though. Wow. That was awesome. I think, if you get the part, it would be best to pitch the voice somewhere between the angry and calmer versions of the - you had a cool sort of gruff english accent going with that "the death of one of our people..." bit; maybe do that but not quite as gutteral. The bit where you were saying "I bet it's because you're so attractive..." and the magnet thing were quite good, I thought. You were putting on a voice there rather than using your natural speaking voice, and I think it sounded very Mort-like.

And there we go, you can watch/listen here. That made me smile. Nice job. Maybe add a little rumble to make it sound like it's coming from the throat or pitch it down just slightly. Just a few suggestions...

I like the slightly calmer version, but the angry voice is certainly VERY appropriate for some of his lines. You have my axe!

And there we go, you can watch/listen here. Very nice! But you may want to try a couple lines where he doesn't sound so menacing (like whenever he's talking to Coyote).
