I have a bad feeling about this.
Horror theory 1: Jeanne stabbed the ethereal soul of Smitty, thus killing his essence while the body stays alive as an empty shell.
Horror theory 2: Jeanne stabbed into the metaphorical heart, thus killing Smittys ability to love.
I really hope the fact that there are plenty of other people (and factors) around will change things up to the better.

F**k these un-people. F**k them with a rusty shovel, sideways. Kat should build a time machine and convince the team to not try the rescue! A better use for a time machine, in my opinion, would be to go back to the Founders' time and persuade them to find some other way to settle their problems with the forest-folk than double murder and creating a vengeful killer-ghost. Or maybe even persuading them not to move to the vicinity of Gilltie Wood to begin with.

I'm hoping Kat will go into Mecha-Angel-Badass mode...somehow...maybe one or both of the glowing green items can do something here?

well i mean it could be like a ghost knife and maybe the damage is spiritual let me hope futilely Yup. Let us all hope beyond hope, that while he will be mortally wounded to the soul, leaving him a joyless, emotionless, zombie-like empty husk of a man, he still would be able to lurch after our group of reckless merry-girls (sans the tights), if only for uplifting value of his enormous eyebrows. i mean maybe it won't be that bad y'know i am still screaming internally Or maybe they can do this.

This is a well written comic and though it seems like some early storylines were scrapped, I generally don't think there is too much in the way of red herrings in this story.
So one big thing we've always been shown is that Jeanne cut Annie, when Kat arrived the cut is gone, but whenever Annie is in the ether the cut is back. That's important. Jeanne has killed psychopomps and fairies but we don't know if she has killed an ordinary flesh person. The fact that the court installed her to protect them from the forest kinda seems like this is on purpose
We were also shown that the court knows how to put souls into bodies. That's important too, because it was a large diversion, and though it kinda answered the fairy bodies I don't think anyone super cared about that (it would have been a huge mystery if it weren't for all the other larger mysteries). It was cute with the bunny and everything but it was generally nothing happened, apart from we learnt the court can put souls into bodies
We also, and I don't know if this one is relevant and I hope it's not because I don't like it, know Renard is an ether creature - a soul - without his original body, with the ability to go into other's bodies at the cost of their lives when he leaves. That would tie this up but I don't like it. Renard wouldn't like it, I don't want Smitty to die, and it would be horrific for Parley especially

For people who are wondering why Smitty isn't expressing pain and is more shocked: sometimes the pain doesn't kick in until the adrenaline dies down, and watching yourself being stabbed has a way of really getting the body going like that.
Just saying, he's probably shanked for real.

It's a little hard to tell, but based on the coloring, I'm pretty sure that the tan thing the hand is reaching for in the last panel is Annie's boot. Is that the body of the elf?

It's interesting to see how the story will proceed with this. This isn't something you come back from easily, and even if Smitty is just somehow very badly wounded and not dead, there's going to be repercussions.

Yeah, either Smitty's going to be dead, or he's going to be a soulless zombie like the spectre-eaten adults on Cittágazze in Phillip Pullman's novels. Neither is a happy result. There may yet be some possible way out of this (along the lines, perhaps, of "Jeanne's knife cannot cut through love", or a spontaneous appearance of some additional powerful entity), but I imagine that if Smitty is to survive, it may take another chapter to resolve.

Like, super dead. Stab just to the left of his sternum, a little above the level of the nipple line... that's left ventricle territory. It's definitely a punctured lung. We'll know by next panel if/when there's a fountain of tomato sauce. The only logical course for them right now would be to GTFO, but it does look like mr skeletal won't let them.

I think I see what's coming up, at least for this whole skeleton deal. Each time we've seen the skeleton, either its right hand has been obscured, or it looks more like a small lump than its other hand--rather, a closed fist (reference: 1, 2 ). Compare this to how the green elf is holding something in his right hand, and in today's page, it's the left hand that's opened and reaching for Annie's boot. So where's the right skeleton-hand in today's strip? Probably still holding something; by my guess and several others', it's Jeanne's heart, which he's here to give back personally.

Straw 1: the Gleaming, bright hearth of loving Parley's gonna heal Smitty, but doing so Parley dies, or their Love does. Tragic.
Straw 2: GreenGuy saves the day by A) catching Annie's boot, so getting roasted by fire, so Jeanne focuses on her, leaving Parley time to heal Smitty with the powerful healing Magic she learned on Dragonslayer camp (come on, any Paladín must have some MajorHealing potions). B) Shouting some "Enough!" Powerful Elf Magic that stop Jeanne on her tracks. Or maybe just for his appearance.
Straw 3: Hello! Forgeting something? This is gonna Be the UltimateFastest DoubleBip on history! Smitty on her arms, Bip to Court Hospital/ ER, and Bip back, in all fury. That is, if Parley remains focused and dont get stabbed on the back while weeping.

I HOPE NOT.

My grasp doesn't rule out the fact that Smitty himself, if he survives this, may have to explain many things to the Court higher-ups. It's a lose-lose situation for the team, whatever the outcome may be.

She will cut through the Dagger with it, the Dagger will go "poof" and any effect it might have had on Smitty will be neutralized.

If Antimony remembers the lesson in capturing a life force from Coyote, maybe she can do it for Smitty. Other than that, and even that isn't a great outcome, I'm kinda pessimistic at this point.

Messing so much with the past would risk that Annie's and/or Kat's parents wouldn't meet, and they would never be born. Remember, the Court gathers gifted people from all around the world, Kat's dad is Scottish and her mom is Spaniard, and Surma and Anthony probably were from different countries too... Kat and Annie exist thanks to the Court's policies.

You have to remember that Annie's cut is only etherical. That is probably why there is no blood. But taking in account that Jenny killed psychopompos (?that's how they are called?) I think that Andrew will be dead.
HOWEVER maybe this sword somehow was taking it's etherical-cutting-power from green arrow, and now can do nothing? There is hope.
Topic could be titled "Dead and undead". Or maybe next one ... hm...

Ahhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooooo!
For those talking about blood, there wouldn't really be a lot of blood until the sword is taken out cause it's stopping up the wound. That's why when you get stabbed it's important to leave the object in until you get to the hospital. (So maybe there's hope for Smitty yet!)
Also, friend of mine thinks the fairies are looking at something off-screen. If he's right I hope it's Eglamore or Jones or both. T-T

Hmm, elf guy's hand is actually *reconstructing* before our eyes! He was a skeleton at the river bottom, and now it looks like tendons and muscle are reforming on his hand.... Perhaps he will soon full return to his original state, erupt from the river, shocking Jeanne ... whose concentration may be needed to maintain her etheric weapons in corporeal form. Dagger disappears, Massive Eyebrows saved! (here's to wild-spec hoping anyway...)
