The mere prospect of trying to feng shui all of Reynardine's bookshelves ended up being too much for him, it would seem. Shelving the whats for a minute, maybe this bodes well for future relations between the two of them? Just talk like normal people and problems get solved..? also he's holding out Renard with his right hand there??

So by the way. Now that we have Rey's break out out of the way... what does it mean? Who is going to break out this chapter? I'm hoping to see Annie take back control of her life, finding out that she is, in fact, the only adult in that relationship, and finally forcing her father to talk things through with her.

Almost correct, but suppose this warrants cookies nevertheless. I am proud to have been even tangentially involved in this prediction. Reminds me way back in the old Robert Jordan USENET group of the guy who predicted Seanchan marriage predictions of got it listed as everyone's favourite crazy prediction, and turned out to be spot on. I think it's hilarious that the only thing you did wrong was to expect there to be an obviously exposited explanation. I bet you didn't think your prediction would be insufficiently extreme.

On a more serious note: I am pretty sure they're both scared of each other now.

OK, OK, now that we've all got our jaws on the floor, let's pick them up. Aren't we suspicious, just a little?
Thought 1: Has Annie ever actually asked him for anything before, or has she just passively gone along with everything he said because, you know, Dad? (Don't blame her for this. Everyone is still a child to their parents.) I can easily see Anthony not being able to deny any direct request she or Surma made of him. Take that, passivity and "niceness".
Thought 2: Wait. Did Anthony seriously have Renard in his hand at the door?
Thought 3: Does anyone else sense a bit of repressed anger and jealousy in Anthony's abrupt manner, as if to say, "Well, if you're going to run to the Forest like that, you've chosen your own road and you can make your own mistakes without my help"? Maybe not.
Thought 4: Why was Anthony so ready to hand over Renard? I think we all assumed simple frustration, but there's got to be more to the story than that. (Is that even really Renard? She's gazing at his face in a really odd manner, and we don't see anything on it this page.)

Every element of the previews are accounted for. The Archive image of the front door, and the characters. Anthony, Annie, and Rey.
By God this might actually legitimately be the entire thing. Not a dream, not an impostor Tony, but this might be it.

Hey, isn't that his right hand though? I thought when we saw that hand there was space between the thumb and palm - I figured the plushie was pinched between those.

speedwell: Consider the recent Coyote's visit and little bit of 'destruction' that happened. Tony might've been very well pushed by the Court to comply to all and every of Antimony's request just to keep Coyote docile.

Yes, I know, there is no such thing (sigh). But seriously, all the actions are stuffed together for comedic effect of putting everything in one page. I don't think that (2), (3) and (4) are literally true, it's just shown that way in the comic.

Yeah, I had to go back and double-check myself that it was his missing hand. No, this does not look like the prosthesis; it looks carefully and finely drawn as a shapely thumb. Although I don't rule out, say, a better prosthesis.

Tony recognizes that he needs to set ground rules and know when not to budge, or else he risks hurting Annie even more in the long run.
However, when interrupted from watching Breaking Bad, Tony is willing to do ANYTHING to get her to leave.

EDIT: Forum autocorrecting my acronym? Bah, let's see how I can find a way to get around that bit of silliness. And with the wrong words, too.

I win.At least with the diplomacy point. I don't think even I can cast this as reconciliation. [Though l33tninja was more detailed, I got there first. I am gloating because my predictions so rarely pan out.]

In retrospect, this makes the super-epic/angry/determined Annie of the previous title page much funnier in hindsight.
I like how nervous Annie looks here, especially in panel three. Despite the shortness of the joke here, it really does say something about how Annie's willing to stand up to her father here (even if it turned out to be unnecessary).
Remember that Annie does not actually "own" Renard at the moment. Kat remains his owner, and Tony has no authority to change that ownership. Not that I think that Kat would hesitate in returning control to Annie, but still. It's possible.

She did try a few "but" the first day, at that time Tony made very clear that he wasn't going to listen to any of them. We (and Annie) now know he was in a very peculiar state of mind that day. Then she cut herself off, and anything resembling rebellion was out of the picture for a while.
It's quite possible that it would have worked earlier had she tried it. Then again, maybe not. Tony's been making his own soul searching while we were looking at Annie. The dinner with the Donlans, his late night talk with Donald, the confrontation with Coyote, all of that had an influence on how he looked back at his actions (remember Tony refused both Coyote's and the Court's threats. Coyote had to convince him to let Annie go back to the forest. And what he told him, bascially, was that Annie was happier there, while he only inflicted pain on her).
I think he's come by himself to the conclusion that making those decisions for Annie was wrong.

Heh I got to this page late and was looking at the hand trying to work out what everyone was talking about! good to see I'm not going crazy. Also to repeat everyone elses sentiments: Setting up that chekhov's gun of letting Renard defend himself against any harm, then just pulling the rug out from underneath us after all that... What? Hopefully this means she doesn't have to be scared of her dad or feel she has to acquiesce to his every wish anymore? But still, what?
