...And I completely agree with Kat on this one.
Annie, whatever the hell is going on, you need friends.
Kat is finally letting her true emotions show.
You could lose your two closest allies the next time you open your mouth.

If he were able to do something, ANYTHING, he would have already. We know he can warp orders if there's a loophole, so my guess is he gave Antimony a specific order that would close any point of action for Rey.

She can take the homework.
But mess with her friends? Meet the pain train.
Even if it was a friend who messed with the friend.

Oh damn not, oh yes, I d'ont know how to react, if I should be happy that Kat is standing out for her friend or if I should be devastated because Annie seems to have absolutely no emotions regarding the fact that she's willing to obey her father and give him Rey !!! I'm... Oh well... Now we have to wait for Monday's update. Nice.

Kat, haven't you noticed the sign on Annie's brow?
She's as bound as Rey.

Annie, if your father ordered you to jump off of a bridge (THE bridge) I am terrifyingly concerned you would do it.

I'm... Oh well... Now we have to wait for Monday's update. Nice. I agree. My heart is bleeding. I am ashamed of Annie, because Kat's got this absolutely right. It just feels so wrong for Annie to remove Rey's ability to object to such a dramatic change in his future. Though I'm not really surprised. It seems like Annie's really running on autopilot right now; she's a robot who's so emotionally broken that she's doing whatever her father says. As much as I'd like to see her get all fiery (either meaning) with her dad and refuse, it's not her character. And Annie has broken the unspoken contract she has with Rey, where she doesn't abuse her absolute control over him. Even if Rey is freed eventually, I expect that Annie and him will have a rocky relationship for a long time. ^Though all of the above could change depending on how exactly the unseen interaction between Rey and Annie went.

I am sad Renard's tirade will not be shown. But it probably would have ruined GC's all-ages rating.

I think it's worse than that--Annie did this on her own. You want to see me disturbed? I am very disturbed by this. But Kat, I think, is about to snap Antimony out of her funk, and Annie needs that. Sometimes the best thing a friend can do is slap you in the face.

Aww, Kat. I was wondering when Renards side would pop up.. and now, that's just cruel. 'He made a big fuss', Annie? Who wouldn't when you're handing him over to his biggest enemy.

Well, this does answer one question I had: the contract of ownership didn't get transferred when Annie said "Okay" in the previous chapter. So there is still time for her to change her mind.

One would think that it would take something major to snap Annie out of this, but I have a feeling that it will be something comparatively minor that will be the breaking point in her relationship with her dad.

Annie's blank, wide eyes... very scary. I'm not quite sure of the blocking here (she might be looking at Reynard), but it seems that Annie can't even look Kat in the face. This is bad. This is not an appropriate response. It is un-Annie Antimony is punishing Reynard and Kat for her own shame, and doesn't even know it. She's on automatic. Painful as it is to watch, it is good that this flaw in Annie's makeup has been revealed. It would have been terrible if she had been allowed to go any further in her studies or her duties as Medium with this void in her soul. Whatever you have to do to wake her up, Kat, do it. That last frame, when Annie finally turns to look at Kat, seems as if Annie is beginning to rouse.

It would have been terrible if she had been allowed to go any further in her studies or her duties as Medium with this void in her soul. The only flaw in Annie's soul here is that Annie's father holds too much control over her, and is capable of breaking her down at will. Which is what happened earlier in this chapter, it seems. Now, Kat, please steal Rey ! Rey will either be yours or be free, and then, that should be interesting. He would be free, unless Annie voluntarily gave him to Kat, which I doubt right now. Here's the catch: does Kat know that this would happen? Because if Kat knew that theft would free Rey, she'd definitely do it. Annie knows this, because Jimmy Jims elucidated it way back in Chapter 9. Kat and Annie are/were close, so it all comes down to how faithfully Annie's reported this conversation to Kat. Annie's blank, wide eyes... very scary. This highlights something that has always been an undertone in Renard's situation*: that anyone having absolute control over you is dangerous and terrifying. It's been made clear that Annie can't make Rey think what she wants him to think, but the power to make him wait without any control or freedom of motion, while other people debate his fate? That's the stuff of nightmares. (And for anyone who reads Freefall, it's the same scenario that their resident wolf Florence faces. Interesting comparison, that.)

Never thought I would say this, but I kind of hate Annie right now. I don't hate her, exactly, because I think she's badly wounded. But she's breaking Kat, and Reynard, and she's doing it for the exact same reason she cheated: because it's the easy path. This is why the cheating was so important, beyond mere academic malfeasance.

Her normal response to emotional problems is to explode and lash out against whatever's hurting her, which while healthy, would be better than what's happening here. Only when her father enters the picture does that fire get quenched. If he had ordered her to give him control over Rey before the tirade of break-the-cutie moments, I REALLY doubt she would have done so without a fight, as she did here. The point being, for emotional issues, 'the easy path' isn't really Annie's style, regardless of academic violations.

he only flaw in Annie's soul here is that Annie's father holds too much control over her, and is capable of breaking her down at will. I'm holding judgment on that for now. But certainly, if it turns out that this is the result of something Anthony did to deliberately exert control over her, he needs to go down. And if Annie is like this simply because she put too much faith in a Father who would is incapable of being there for her, then best she learn that now, and let go of her illusions. Yup. At least Florence recently had the fuses on that pretty much pulled, except for the command on non-disclosure. I am hoping we see something of the same happening here. No one should have this much control over a person as old as Annie is.
