And I find the mindset that Anthony is an unrepentant abuser who is psychologically sabotaging Annie to get himself off to be tiresome. If you find such mindsets tiresome... ... you only need to stop inventing them. If you find this particular post tiresome, you should go back and delete the duplicates. Oh come off it. What happened to not assuming the worst about people? ...If a public wiki engine got 20 users per day registering under names like ChairJoseph99 and falling silent, those are spambots trying to circumvent quarantine timer. And so on. Just hypothetically, to play devil's advocate, there could also be many lurkers joining the forum to register their opinion for or against Anthony. Not to mention, that Tom and GK have been monitoring IP addresses since the whole Babaji debacle and would likely see what was happening. Stepping around an IP ban would be more work than I think anyone would put into cultivating fake supporters on a forum about a webcomic.

Oh come off it. What happened to not assuming the worst about people? The term " reasonable doubt" is phrased so for a reason. At some point things become so obvious that doubt becomes unreasonable: - I was standing there, cleaning an orange with a knife. This guy runs by, slips on an orange peel and falls right on my knife, so unfortunate. - And then he stood up, slipped again and repeated this 15 times? If someone is selling a bridge, the conclusion is foregone to the full length of the bridge. If a public wiki engine got 20 users per day registering under names like ChairJoseph99 and falling silent, those are spambots trying to circumvent quarantine timer. And so on. Raids can be just as blatant and recognizable. See in the next thread. Or, as Daedalus has helpfully pointed out, the emotionally charged contents of the last few updates may have brought in former lurkers who had yet deigned to not post until now. And if those same persons have since stopped posting, that does not necessarily qualify them as "spambots". One or two posts may be all they care to make. And frankly, forums have new users join all the time, and the majority, as often as not, are not prolific or long-time residents. If it were the case, you could well claim the forum has been suffering a so called raid since it's inception. And yes, I will be awaiting the next thread to see these coordinated instances of spam you have insisted on the existence of.

My brief responses to previous posts: If you want to point fingers at people making false assertions, point them at speedwell and the other plebs, not me. so it's a waste of my time and effort and quite frankly, I'm too lazy to continue this argument one way or the other. So congratulations, you win the argument. Don't let your meteoric rise to the top make you forget the little people that helped you along the way. =D If I had a nickel for every time someone said "I'm going to stop arguing now" but didn't...We get it, your e-penis is large and korba is fighting a losing battle because your power is maximum. I mean, seriously. Stahp.
But why would compassion be limited to those shiny happy people reiterating one's own thoughts about where compassion is supposedly justified, mostly by their apparent lack of leprosy? And apart from that, how come that less naturally-gifted people in whatever capacity are so often pitied, met with disgust, or ridiculed when they try to live like those who have enjoyed the more blissful upbringings they desire? -- I don't mean to put you down at all. These are long-lived questions the comic itself seems to ask. How interesting of you. If I was actually provoked to bite at that bit of pretend-philosophical literary "analysis", I'd be picking straw-man out of my teeth for weeks. As it is, I was brought up with the ridiculous ideas of my somewhat-distant cousin and family embarrassment Ayn Rand, and given the couple decades I've spent becoming a humanist and progressive, I think that even a straightforward attempt to "put me down" (as opposed to your rather oblique and ineffectual lazily sarcastic bon mots) would not succeed. I've been around that particular block a few times, comrade; I'm the old housecat blinking and yawning at your kittenish swipes. My left eyebrow is emphatically raised so far that it's in danger of making contact with the astral plane. (Oh, and don't use the word "seems", it makes you sound intellectually insecure.) Judging from the average age of the forum members, I've probably been an atheist since before you could walk, and engaging in literary analysis before your parents were married. (Assuming they were, in fact, married. One never knows.) If my diction bears some passing resemblance to that of Schopenhauer, blame his translators, not me. I talk this way in person and I long ago stopped caring whether my diction met with the approval of random strangers such as yourself . In any case, it's completely irrelevant. As for the rest of that paragraph, similarly irrelevant, I will content myself with saying that if the shoe fits, you can wear it with my wholehearted blessing. I don't have to explain, much less apologize for, my own motivations; they have been stated with crystal clarity in my other posts. You don't have to try to put me in my place, puppy; I am in it, I am content with it, and I earned the right to be here. You might also earn a similar place someday if you prove to possess the capacity. Don't hedge needlessly. I imagine a thinker of your apparent caliber is at least up to determining whether a work of literature does or does not deliver a given moral lesson. It doesn't appear to be a troublesome task to most of the rest of us. If you managed to state your contention correctly, which I am not sure you have managed to do, you have been seduced by its apparent symmetry into thinking that it is, in fact, symmetric. It is not. I invite you to retrace your steps and see why that adolescent bit of mockery isn't quite as impressive as it sounded over your beer. Now that steam is coming out of your ears and you're rehearsing what to type that would be a sufficiently intemperate response to my vexatious provocation, I will drop the overerudite "pose" just long enough to stoop to your level and say, "I'm laughing at you fit to shit, princess. Do us a huge favor, will ya, and piss off until you can blather with the grownups at the big table, innit?" (whistle)Rey was such an immediate and constant threat to Antimony that Anthony knew he had to act... in over two year's time. It's a good thing Rey wasn't actually a threat, or Anthony would have had to deliver his "I'm disappointed" spiel to a gravestone. I'm trying my hardest not to like ALL of your posts, but darn, you are making it difficult.(my responses are bolded so they can be distinguished from the posts themselves)

Hmmm, the mood in these threads has turned quite sour... THANKS ANTHONY! I feel so out of place here right now, guess it's time for a forum break. Now's the time to launch my Gunnerkrigg stand-up routine, to raise morale! Hear all the clichés, like: "So what's the deal with Gunnerkrigg Court food?" and "Does anyone know where I could hire a bodyguard? I crossed the Annan Waters earlier today, and boy did they look angry". ...I'll see myself out.

If I had a nickel for every time someone said "I'm going to stop arguing now" but didn't... Specifically, I stopped arguing over the deservedness of Annie's punishment, and the logical reasons for Anthony's actions. Arguing over being repeatedly called a troll by speedwell et al for not agreeing with their narrative of Tony as a psychological abuser who is doing everything he can to ruin his daughter's life purely out of spite is another argument entirely.

I don't follow. Do you mean to suggest that I am wrong? Or were you attempting to imply that the size of your genitals exceeds mine? Watch now as I engage in witty repartee by suggesting that the only pile you possess is a pile of excrement.

Do you mean to suggest that I am wrong? Yes, that was my goal. Specifically, I intended to suggest that my nickel-granting condition happens more than yours. Because I don't think that calling someone out for making a strawman argument makes them right. And I'm still waiting for an answer about where you can support your previous statement. But I really do sincerely apologize about the snarky reference from TV Tropes; that was quite immature.

One does not need to "earn" liberty. It is a fundamental right of all sentient beings. You're free to do as you wish until someone can stop you. Whether it be with physical force or an adequate enforceable threat. No, this is not at all what the right to liberty means. You're citing a governmental right to liberty, that's not what I'm talking about at all. I'm talking about the concept of liberty and autonomy, in a Self-determination philosophy way. Free-will, the ability of agents to make choices unimpeded. I'm saying that Annie, as a sentient entity, has the natural right to not submit to Anthony, this isn't to say she won't suffer consequences though. (Although I believe she has the force behind her to win a war against Anthony anyways) Her being young, or "immature", or his daughter does not take away this right. Edit: Would it help if I rephrased this? Annie has the privilege as a sentient entity with a physical form in the universe to act upon it in any way she is able. A liberty right or privilege, is simply a freedom or permission (in this case permission from the laws of physics, and her ability to choose her own actions) for the right-holder to do something. Edit2: To key people in who haven't been following this sparse comment chain over 12 pages, someone said to me "That kind of inherently means that you haven't matured enough to earn your liberty yet.", and my argument is yes, Annie does have the right to say "Nope, fuck all of you, I'm out, goodbye" pack her shit, and leave.

I'm saying that Annie, as a sentient entity, has the natural right to not submit to Anthony, this isn't to say she won't suffer consequences though. I cited that document as an example. It happens to be largely based on the very philosophical thought that you mention. Let me clarify: It is a fundamental right of all sentient beings. You're free to do as you wish until someone can stop you. Whether it be with physical force or an adequate enforceable threat. This is not at all what the right to liberty means in any sense of the word. What you are missing completely is the word right, whether in moral or legal sense. Right, and even more fundamental right, to liberty, is exactly opposed to freedom to do something as long as nobody stops you violently or otherwise. The sense of the right is that you have it even and precisely when an external force tries to deny you of it. Similarly, the rights are opposed to what you can do over the will of others. Your post echoes the so called will theory, which is a theory according to which humans have rights because they have the capacity to act upon their will. However, it means that the capacity to act is a fundamental source of the right to liberty, but this should not be confused with the actual right to liberty (and no known will theorist does), to which the clauses mentioned above apply completely. You still have the right exactly against anybody who would prevent you from doing what you have right to, and a right that is limited by many things, amongst them as the most important: the rights of the others. The sense of right is not to allow you to act as you wish to the extent that you can. What does that, is called power.

(I'm going to be using your word power instead of the word right) I think we're arguing semantics at this point, my friend, do you agree with me that Annie has the power to disobey her father and walk out of the situation? My original statement was disagreeing with someone who said because she had cheated on her homework, she was therefor too immature to have earned the right to not be subjugated. My disagreement with that was based upon my belief that by virtue of being human, she needn't take that oppression without fighting back, and that she was within her power to disobey, she didn't need to "earn" anything. Also zimmyzims is my favorite character too.
