Anyway, it seems that modern authors like Rowling and Siddell think it was how students talked in boarding schools, and to evoke the impression of "old posh boarding school big on tradition" they go on with it. Or maybe it's just because we, the audience, expect that people in British boarding schools talk like that? I guess it might be a trope. I wonder if a certain community dedicated on cataloguing them might be of assistance (I'm almost serious). Relevant TV tropes article. It doesn't say much about boarding school, though. Interesting commentary on Harry Potter.

With all the links to Faraway Morning being passed around, I feel like there was a period were Tom was drawing the characters looking older than they do now. Does anyone else agree, and if so, when do you think the last art style shift was?

Does anyone else agree, and if so, when do you think the last art style shift was? I have the same opinion, but specifically with Kat. I thought she looked quite older in From the Forest She Came compared to how she was drawn later. It really hit me in panel 2 of www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=855. Oh my, Kat went to France and came back with a figure! I assume Tom has drawn models of the main characters in each year to reference for age consistency. But any drawing could deviate from the models more than he intended and each reader may interpret any drawing differently than Tom intended. I don't think Tom intended Kat to look so... eh... mature, in panel 2 of www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=855, so maybe its just me.

It's almost time for the next page... Roughly 4.5 hours after you posted that. (A bit under 3.5 hours now.) On the other subject... if we're going to talk about bodily development, I'm skipping the euphemisms. Kat does often wear somewhat shapeless tops, and horizontal stripes really don't help either, but she still shows. There's some subtle breast development in panels 1 and 2 of this thread's comic, and some shape to the hips in panel 4. Granted, she's rather less bra-filling than Annie, but maybe she's just getting a late start - and Anja was less busty than Surma even as adults. Further it looks like Annie is somewhat less bountifully developed than the possibly-Paz character in panel 2 of the previous page, who is presumably also in their class. The breast size of that character is plausible for Paz based on when we saw her last and the likelihood that at least a couple months have passed. The hair length, though, is a tough sell. And I think the skin tone on the arms is a poor match too. I don't see any sign of regression in development beyond what's quite easily accounted for by changes in clothing and posture.

Robots are certainly capable of becoming attracted to humans www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=661 so it was probably intentional, although I'm guessing it was an opinion on Kat's development as a woman, not an expression of love. Not really a KatXS13 shipper here. S13XShadow43v3r

Thank you, SilverbackRon. I forgot those details. Personally, I think that Per is on to something when she said that it was CJG. Looking at Page 404 and the next page, and comparing that to MAL, is convincing. She looks the same, the dress sense is similar and so is the body language. Most girls would object to be used to mess with someone but, given how Reynard treated them, I don't think that CJG would mind. A few points: 1. Male pronouns for me, please. Sorry about that. I forgot which way round gender symbols are. I wasn't thinking of low self esteem more of a desire for revenge. Logically, a direct attack won't work because of aforementioned wolf. However, messing with someone's mind is a possibility. To do that you need to know what would work and I'm guessing she got that bit of information from Jack.

Abort the surrade thing, as a former attendee of a British boarding school(not very long, it wasn't very nice), he surname thing is still used there sometimes especially by teachers. even in other schools it is not uncommon, although not the normal thing to do any more. it isn't an insult, but usually just more formal, hence often being used by teachers especially when telling you off.

For those of you who don't know, you can change your vote. Click on the box checked already, then click a different box to re-vote. (I already changed my vote from yes to no.) ...interesting, I will change it then, as my initial vote was uninformed. Going with unsure, although after whole weekend of thinking, I'm almost at the no camp. It's not the eyes, nor anything else in her physical appearance. It's that she's so "babe" with Jack. I can't handle that. Zimmy is no babe. She's a demi-god or something. On the other hand, it just seems like there's something about Jack that I can't see. The best that this thread has offered to me was that Annie actually did fall for Jack. I never liked that selfish rascal who's all "oh I'm so lonely wolf, look at me, never hanging with other guys, stealing your stuff and thinking you will fall for me because " and was ultimately happy that Annie ditched him. But it really is interesting, and regardless of who the girl is explains Annie's reaction, that she really did want to go with Jack.

I'm mad that I hadn't thought to put this here earlier:
It's fine that the Court has cruise ships, but their cruise missiles scare me more.

Crags are rocky outcrops that generally back onto the sea, so presumably they'd be able to cram a suitable dock in the facility somewhere.
This would almost certainly mean however that one side of the Court isn't bordered by the Annan Waters.

This would almost certainly mean however that one side of the Court isn't bordered by the Annan Waters. Or one of the following: - The Annan Waters are only between the Court and Forest, and thus run in a relatively straight line.
- The Court exists in non-euclidean or hyperspace, so that it can be completely surrounded and still have an exit.

I've been thinking and I've come up with another theory of why they were on a cruise (again, I apologise if this has already been said):
What if the Court was trying to train them how to handle themselves at formal social occasions? The lack of tutors means that it would be a realistic simulation and the ship is on hand to intervene if things get out of hand.
