But if you look closely at his head in Treatise 4... Aren't those the etheric lines where his ear used to be (compare this)?

I always figured they were glowing from the reflection of the etheric lines floating around his ear, similar to Annie's fire reflecting on her hair and several other places in the image.

Some things: Renard supposedly speaks with a mild French accent. I guess that explains where he learned this gesture... You know, for whatever reason, I always imagined Renard with a slight French accent, even though I don't remember reading anything like that. I think maybe his name being French has somehing to do with it. Also I recently resigned to reading Kat's voice in a heavy Scottish accent. I don't even know why.

A little known fact. Telsa, considered to be an extraordinary visionary of scientific genius, deeply loved a pigeon. When Kat is holding young City Face, she experiences a powerful flash of insight. Coincidence? Probably, but still fun to think about.

I'd guess from connecting it to her parents, Donny is definetly scottish, though Anja is from an unknown slavic country (hence the intially odd speech patterns when she was young.) what surprised me is that Surma seemed to 'ave either a cockney or yorkie accent when she was younger based on the speech patterns.

A few things on my recent lurkings through the archives: It has been mentioned several times by different characters, that "there are no rats here". I may take this to literal, it's quite specific and rats are basically everywhere. Find/build a large enough place, ship some people there and there will be rats. Why not in the court? Further, both times the sentences was directed at Zimmy. As seen in the first link her definition of "spider" differs somewhat from the common one. Could be the same for "rats". On pg.779 in the lower half. I have no idea how I missed that, but Jeanne says "A fine strike, fille" (fille = french for girl), when Parley knocks the stone from her hand. She also seem oddly calm while saying that.

I've always suspected that the "safe location" which Anja's "computer" was stored was her mind. Uh, right on the previous page (from the one linked by tpman) Anja said she uses a pendant to access it. And 3 pages later we see an illustration of that "computer" - with her and Donald standing near a glowy circle on the floor to provide the scale. It'd certainly explain why we don't see her doing stuff like this anymore. Most likely, because we didn't Anja getting into lots of situations where she needs to do it in the first place. And when it happens, there's simply a more flexible (and probably more power-efficient) way now. See also: 3 shields appearing at once to protect Annie and Renard from 'Grin when he flipped out.

There are a number of ways how what Anja showed and told the girls could be reconciled with my theory. I wouldn't have suggested it if there weren't. The most crucial aspect is that Anja left out a few details, and perhaps spoke metaphorically as well. (And there are multiple reasons why she might do so.)

Sometimes during breaks I'm just going back and re-reading chapters I flew past. Tom really puts a lot of detail into a page, there's a lot to notice and speculate upon. For example, chapter 29 made me think about how Kat blatantly treats organic creatures better than robots, and shows a bit of her controlling side. This is a really rich comic, there's a lot to look at, even if you know the main story so far.

(i think she's changing though)

Well, at that point Kat was seriously disillusioned with the Court, because of the revelation about Diego's actions a few chapter prior. And the robots are basically the most visible embodiment of both the Court's achievements and especially Diego's legacy. Both made possible by sacrificing Jeanne. The whole point of the chapter was about her attitude changing from bitter resignation to deciding to try and change things after talking to Paz. She got a lot nicer again after it.

It's interesting that back then, catching up with Paz was the catalyst for Kat's change in attitude as well as inspiration for biosynthetic robutts

I figure if the wole province of Alberta can keep rats out then the Court can too.

So have the owls taken up the ecological niche that rats no longer fill?

Hello everyone! Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but so strangely I felt like doing a reread instead of studying for finals... Anyways, after the recent revelation in Kat's interest in going out with Paz, it seems like there were definitely really tiny hints in a few places all over the comic. I think this: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1050 might be the most telling that I've maybe picked up on. It seems now perhaps Kat might have tried to appear much more traditionally girly after that mix up(?) from the night everyone hung out, and started wearing that pink headband. There was another scene where she was working in the lab and things get serious and she throws it away. Could be a "getting down to business" or maybe an "this isn't worth the effort now and I don't like it" gesture. Maybe I'm reading too much into things!

Coincidence? Probably, but still fun to think about. Gunnerkrigg got a lot of hereditary talents, including Antimony as a descendant of... let's call them "Anselmus and Serpentina" for now. So... Kat comes from a long dynasty of mad scientists too? So have the owls taken up the ecological niche that rats no longer fill? Nope, the pigeons (flying rats) have! From this, we can infer that whatever factor proved to be more than just selection pressure for rats can be escaped by flying. So it's not because of TicTocs. Maybe... spiders?

A mysterious artefact of great power. I think Zimmy and Gamma took it after helping Annie. They didn't have much use for it and threw it away.

*Headband of +5 straightness worn* *Successful will save; Kat is still attracted to Paz* Just imagine Zimmy wearing a pink headband with a flower! Ahahahahahahaha Also, I noticed this "Kat probably only has action figures she thinks are hot." gunnerkrigg.com/?p=96The question is... was it normal spiders or etheric Zimmingham spiders that caused rats to be replaced by pigeons?

I'm sure it's already been pointed out, but Eglamore's sword ( here looks very similar to Coyote's tooth sword, except for the color and missing part of the handguard.
