Hey all, just to make sure the current situation is clear.
For the time being, voting is still open on Round Two (Chs. 3 and 4), only with new voting guidelines that are listed in the Voting Thread.
If you win a major role, and you want to do another major role, you'll have to decide for yourself whether it's worth denying someone else the opportunity of participating, as well as convincing me that you can alter your voice sufficiently to differentiate the characters if those characters are in a scene together.
This whole issue is still open ended, and I don't want to be the guy to say "this is the way it is, deal with it" so I'm trying to avoid that... but at the same time, we have to keep the project moving forward, so voting is continuing.
I'm mentioning this because nobody is voting, and that worries me. You people, go read the Voting Thread and send us your votes!!

I hope my ballot got through...
Duohimura, love your Dr Disaster. Hopefully I'll have the time to do my DD audition tomorrow, along with a few others. I may do some auditions with other people in the house (le gasp). I would like to put forward that every Dr Disaster audition must end with 'Dun Dun Duuuuuuun', just because it's one of the best sound effects ever. Warning - my DD will be very different to Duohimura's.
Casey, of that list of major characters you put up I would say that Muut and Jones are more minor characters, at least at the moment. So are Zimmy and Gamma, to an extent. It's not like they've had a lot of screen-time, but they might become major characters later in the story.

I ranked them as such only because of their impact in the overall story, but I should make it clear that everything will be looked at on a case by case basis and, as goatmon wisely said, nothing is set in stone.

Well, I see someone beat me to auditioning for Dr. Disaster, but seeing as our takes on the character are pretty much night and day, I think it'll be fine. On that note, here's me as Dr. Disaster: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwErine-fPUI'm not totally happy with it--there's a couple of spots where I think I could have given a little bit more or I may not have kept my voice constant, and I did have some totally avoidable background noise, but it's a basic idea of how I'd portray the character, and I'm pretty confident that I could clean up any other issues for an actual performance. So, yeah, there you go. No British accent, but I do EPIC YELL most of the lines, so. Oh, and any advice that doesn't pertain to eliminating background noise would be very much appreciated. Just because we already have a thread for advice on cutting background noise, it seems. Though if anyone knows how to fix a seemingly permanent DC offset, that'd be great--it would be nice to not have to "normalize" everything I record. That's good, there's no way I could get that kind of energy in my voice (people tell me it's quite toneless). At first I was going to try something like the "Welcome...to the world of tommorow!" guy from Futurama but I couldn't really pull it off, so I just put on my best "mad scientist" voice and started shouting. Personally I'm hoping someone'll try a German/Russian accent type thing. I tried and failed at that too.

B8, I just noticed your Enigmaron audition. It made me chuckle greatly. Is that just your voice or did you use effects?

you know, I see this issue, and I like the idea of only being able to get one big role or two roles from the 10-20, and then the rest could just be individually sorted. As long as the voice is different for all their characters. Quick! everyone channel Mel Blanc!

Wow, intense feedback guys. I was surprised to be replied to so quickly on that count, though I guess I shouldn't have been.
Casey--You pretty much hit the nail on the head, actually, with the "afraid of getting louder" thing. I embarrass fairly easily (wound up waiting until there was no one else in the house to record), so I'm not always the best at projecting etc. Had to struggle with that a bit when I was in a one-act play earlier this year, so I'll try to recall what we did there (shouting random phrases at the top of our lungs in one of the school's hallways) when I record again. Also... yeah, I wasn't standing when I was recording. That's pretty impressive that you can tell, I have to say.
Also appreciate your info on the DC offset, the person who identified what the problem likely was and told me how to fix it in Audacity didn't seem to have any idea where it came from. And I may just take you up on trying for Ysengrin. Though if we do group readings when we record for real, there is no way I won't crack up if someone reads the sound effect "Spankies!" (Have we considered having someone read the more unconventional sound effects?)
Re: lower range (this is Aricos' suggestion, too): Hm... for some reason going higher felt natural to me with what I was doing, but I could try keeping to a lower range in the future. I may have to think how to do it, but I imagine I'd be able to figure it out. May be a little while before I try it again, though... it's a bit taxing on the vocal chords, plus school and whatnot.
Anyway, glad people liked it. It's definitely a fun role to play. Curious to see what your take will be Ulysses.
Also, seconding that B8's Enigmaron was hilarious.

Try this: think about manipulating energy and intensity through projection, inflection, and enunciation, while downplaying the pitch. In one of my acting classes we had to read our lines all on one pitch, like robots, and see if we could convey the meaning and emotion of the lines through all other aspects of the voice other than pitch. It might help! Or, I might be an idiot. Jury's still out on that.

You missed submitting your ballot for Round 1. You can make up for that, though, by voting in Round 2. But please go read the first post of the Voting Thread because the format for submitting your vote has changed to include more information. Good to see you back though, you incurable procrastinator!

HEY GUYS!
I don't know if you noticed or not, but there are a LOT of roles that are closing this Saturday, for which no one or only one person have put up an audition.
Don't you guys want to be in a project like this?
GIVE ME MORE AUDITIONS! I never thought I'd have to beg for participation! Gah!
(I'm not really begging, I'm being dramatic for... dramatic effect.)
But seriously. Where are all the auditions! There are some CHOICE parts on the table and they are going fast!

The closing roles are from Ch.5-Ch.8, right?

GIVE ME MORE AUDITIONS! I never thought I'd have to beg for participation! Gah! There there! Don't cry ! I'll submit some for the smaller bitparts when it gets a bit more quiet in the neighbourhood! (gotta love living in DA GHETTO with 'tards thinking abysmal basslines and Retards Attempting Poetry equals dope music to be played at impossible volumes... *eyerollering*)

The closing roles are from Ch.5-Ch.8, right? Yes, technically. As of the end of the current round of voting, we will have already cast all of the roles found in Ch. 9, so it gets skipped in the auditioning. Everything before Chapter 10, then.

There there! Don't cry ! I'll submit some for the smaller bitparts when it gets a bit more quiet in the neighbourhood! Oh, don't you worry about it Aricos... as the person with the second-most lines in the project, you will have -plenty- to keep you busy already, I am sure!

I think I'll try out for some of the robotic parts. I got the best feedback for my robotic and alien voices.

Wow, there ARE a lot of open parts. o.o;; This cannot be allowed to continue! At any rate, here's my Blue Fairy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxDRZxJsnZIThis is probably the closest to my natural voice that this comic gets, though I have no idea what happened with that "whee." x) Another one where I don't have to risk offending our British participants with a bad accent - I think some of the Georgia drawl crept in there, even. I'm still debating on giving Surma and Shadow 2 a real go. (At least there's others already up for Surma...) I'd also kind of like to try for Zimmy (but there's that problem with the accent, and Zimmy is fundamentally a specific strain of Brit) or Gamma or even Margo...hmm, Gamma's looking cooler all the time, actually. Really, there's a lot I'd like to try for, but I feel like I'm overdoing it as it is. x) I'm having a blast with it, though. Step up, people! It's a lot of fun!

Your Blue Fairy audition has been added to the master list.
If you, or anyone else, is considering auditioning for a role, I would say go for it. I can't imagine a situation where anyone would say "wow, we totally have too many choices!"
BTW I should clarify on Shadow 2 that the voice role listed is for his pre-English sound effect type of speaking. Once he learns to speak, he sounds just like Annie and Kat, according to Tom, so that's how we're planning on producing it as well. I'm telling you this so that if you, or anyone else, try out for Shadow 2, you'll know which lines to read.

I just uploaded my audition for Surma here. I did try my hand at a British accent, because some of the lines are clearly accented. I hope your ears don't bleed toooo much. Ugh, I'm finding that my voice is inappropriate for many background characters because they are mainly youngun's, and my voice is pretty low. What I really want to try out for is a large amazon-woman who could appear once or twice. That doesn't exist yet, so major characters it is then. Edit: Again, here's the page numbers: 539, 541-542, 438-439, 340-341, 361. It's really not as long as that looks; go ahead and put them in whatever order you want, Casey, that's just the order I read it in. Apparently Tom is showing Surma earlier and earlier in her life.

Accent aside, I really like the timbre of your voice as Surma, leela.

Any form at all... as long as it is something that I can link directly to in the first post of the thread.

Leela, your audition has been added to the master list.
Incidentally, just so everyone knows... I'm phasing out the inclusion of "reading pp" links in my first post. It's really time consuming for me, and it's making the post incredibly long (as you can imagine, all that url= stuff in the background adds up over time.) I'm letting you guys know so that you aren't surprised by their absence.

Hey, ladies! (Yes I'm making a shout-out to the ladies. Don't think badly of me...)
Please don't overlook the fact that you can submit an audition for Tea, the white-haired narrative type character! It's in red, at the top of the open auditions list.
Of course I suppose, logically, I should also point out that your opportunity to try out for Zimmy or Gamma is about to close too...

I've had a pop at pretty much most of the roles that are closing this week. They're all recorded, I just have to process them. Prepare for a whole bunch of auditions to pop up in this thread. I also had a go at Dr Disaster. How much fun was that?!
