A minor question - are any sort of alterations acceptable? That is to say - were I to try out for a robotic character, would it be appropriate to add a metallic echo or something to his voice? Or are we all supposed to do this without any changes to voice?
Cheers -

For the audition, that is perfectly suitable, as long as your natural voice is still obvious. I wouldn't want any effects that are so heavy that we can't really distinguish what you individually bring to the performance.
Additionally, I don't want any effects that are so heavy that it overbalances against the other auditions for the same role. It's hard to compare (virtual) apples to oranges.
In the actual production, special effects are being applied in post-production. However, for a robot voice, if you have an effect that brings something specific to the sound palette, I don't mind that being done on the original take. That's how FuzzyOne does his lines for Robot.

Noted.
And I may have missed this, but what is the preferred form of initial submission? A zipped file, or something, or a private youtube video?

Pretty much any kind of media file with audio, so long as it's easily to listen to. A lot of us have put our auditions on YouTube with the GKCFanProject profile. If you want to do it that way just ask Casey or someone what the password is.

Most serious voice productions don't accept distortion in auditions because they want to hear YOUR voice and you should get the part on the merit of your own voice, but then again this isn't "most serious vocal productions" whatever that means.

I'm aware of what most professional agencies look for, but as this isn't one, and as we're being judged on a character-by-character basis, I thought I'd just go with whatever I thought sounded best. And I will, of course, make a note of informing what I have done, and to which. If it proves to be a problem, well, I'll fix it. No worries.
I do hope I don't seem overeager. I just realized I put together four auditions and am still thinking of doing more. Perhaps I should quit while I've got these.

Gosh, Toku's rendition of Boxbot is awesome in all it's terribleness... I could see my life flash before me as I listened to the audition!

I stumble in for a DOCTOR DISASTER AUDITION! I do hope it's acceptable. It may not be my last audition, but, in any case, you have not heard the last of me! Audition! Now to vanish as suddenly as I have arrived...

Hi Mrpitchfork.
I had trouble with your download. If you'd like your audition stored more permanently, send me a PM and I'll get it uploaded to the GKCFP YouTube site.

I actually had an audition... o.o for, um... XD www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFtmSr6BmeAAnd... I never turned it in. XD >.< So, now there will be at least one audition for Brinny. ^_^ Although, I feel the accent is all wrong... I looked up "Brinny" on a guess, and found out there's a town called Brinny. I thought, "Oh crap, she has the accent associated with that place, doesn't she?! D=" But I wasn't able to learn it, and the recording had already been put up. >.<;

Thanks for your submission, sakura.
mrpitchfork, I'm still having problems with your audition as well. Please re-send me a link to it.
For EVERYONE: I noticed something when updating the master list with sakura's audition.
If you have ever submitted an audition as a link to a file site, or basically in ANY format other than an upload to YouTube, I strongly suggest that you check your links in the master list.
There are a fair number of auditions that were uploaded to file hosting sites which have since expired on those sites. You really need to upload your submissions to a permanent host such as YouTube. Remember that if you want it to be hosted on the Fan Project's own YouTube page, you need to contact me with a PM to arrange that. However there's nothing wrong with hosting it on your own YouTube page if you prefer that route.
And also remember, you folks that have already submitted auditions: There is no reason why you couldn't submit another audition. Not happy with your first submission? Want to demonstrate another voice for your character? I can replace the old submission with a new one, or post more than one audition for the same role, all depending on your preference. Remember that your audition is the thing that people will use to decide who they think should get the part. If you're not 100% satisfied with your submission, you can always change it!

Hi!
How long until the deadline on the coyote audition? I'd really like to give it a try, but I'll have to see if my audio equipment works first.

Go ahead and record it, and send me a PM when you have the finished YouTube-ready file. I'm not going to be holding auditions for any additional chapters until the current ones are complete. And at the rate I'm getting submissions from my actors, it will be a while.

Anyone can submit an audition for any character that is still open. It might be some time before we get to those parts, of course. When we start on new chapters, I will go through the list and re-confirm each person who has submitted an audition before we vote on that role.
So feel free if you want to go ahead and submit an audition.

I just discovered Gunnerkrigg Court a week or so ago. I think it's marvelous, and this project sounded like a lot of fun, so: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyZeJ2fWE6wis my audition for Coyote. Text from pages 488 and 489. (Unsure about coyote-howl timbre, and how a god-dog makes sibilants.) If only every great work of art had a fan-base this dedicated!
