Jones didn't explicitly say yes to Eggs' question, makes me think she's doing it of her own volition. Whether that's just down to curiosity or not... Also, This might be the most interesting group conversation of the lot if the topic turns to Anthony. Edit: Also, A SomethingAwful member has spotted a colouring mistake. Tom has fixed it. Idra's hand around Eglamore's waist.

Beardsglamore arrives on the scene!
Also, the elf lady thinking Annie has a thing for Eggsy actually makes me think this is likely not the case.
Also also, I love how Donny and Anja look here. They truly are the comics greatest couple.

I unironically didn't recognize Eglamore at first.
And yeah, Jones answering ambiguously.

Also I really like Idra, a character who really isn't afraid to speak her mind and do what she wants, as opposed to the self doubt and self reflection of much of the rest of the cast

Is That Guy the only human in the running for Annie's crush?
Also, props to Jones for fifth wheeling it.

So did they invite Jones on their cute double-date beach walk or did she just silently insert herself into the activity and start asking questions about the mental state of a teenager(s)?

They're all teachers (except for Idra). They talk about students (shrug)... As for Idra, she rubs me the wrong way completely. This is probably just me reacting to the kind of person who just makes me feel cornered in general

(Also, am I the only one who thinks of the salty Starcraft player for Idra? I don't always read the forum so I don't know if this was brought up before.)

Whats up with that steadman characters beard? Why he got 3 colors of hair If I remember my genetics correctly, both copies of the red hair mutation lead to red hair and red beard, one copy leads to red beard and a different hair. That's the most common reason for difference, but hair colour is controlled by a bunch of genes that will interact in all sorts of ways. The phenomenon itself is actually not that uncommon. The white is.. well, a sign of the passing time, I suppose. Re. Jones' motivation: sure, she didn't say it was for the court, but then again Eglamore would have clammed up if she had said yes. So who knows. Is Indra basing that on the time the Annies were upset at finding her at Eglamore's? I thought that was either because they were considering it as cheating on Jones (which is probably not how Jones sees it, although maybe we'll see that on Friday), or just feeling extremely uncomfortable at seeing their teacher in such a personal situation.

People who speak their mind freely without regard to whether they are correct, appropriate, or kind are exactly the kind who get my back up.

The white is.. well, a sign of the passing time, I suppose. It's even simpler than that. A biology professor once told me that we have three main types of hair, head hair, fine body hair, and the fine body hair that develops into longer and coarser hair during puberty in the presence of androgens. Beard hair is of the third kind, so it's actually a different kind of hair than the head hair and follows different developmental rules. My teacher put it somewhat crudely as "Beard hair is really pubic hair", which is correct on one level, but I think he was winding us up by putting it in that way

Seeing she is the only one carrying her shoes, I assume she was on their way to them, spotted them on the beach and indeed just inserted herself into that. At least she is not walking on her socks unlike some people we know. Also, I realize now that "redhair" refers to Annie. I thought Idra was referring to Jones, which gave a whole different context to Eglamore's last words.

Hmmmm so is eglamore going to have to go in some uncomfortable territory to circle back to tony, as the others have? And how convenient donny is there too.

Interesting transition frames in the upper left corner – just a few slices cut off the page. James asks a question we've been asking for a while now, namely why Jones is doing this. Is it at the request of the Court, at the request of someone else, or completely on her own? And of course Jones doesn't quite answer. But "I just need to" implies that it's her own project. She didn't say "I have to," "I must," or the like. She either has a concern of her own, or it's required for something else. But the presence of Don, Anja, and James probably means that whomever she's doing this for, it isn't any of them. (It could still be that Tony's asked her to do this.) So then the guy who I have on good authority is Eglamore despite the new facial hair says Annie is fine. I note that nobody mentions Annie by name on this page, but by now we know that Jones is going around asking people about her. Then Idra thinks Annie's got a thing for James. I'm not sure how often she comes in contact with Annie, but as mzpx points out, the last time she saw Annie might have been at the start of chapter 76, when she discovered that Idra and James have been sleeping together, which came quite out of the blue. I think that was right before I joined this forum, so I don't think I've commented about that before. But there's more than one reason why Annie might have reacted like that. Sure, Annie might have a crush on James, or might once have. But also, it was pretty much a surprise. And given that he's been basically acting (or trying to act) like a surrogate parent to her since he's been in the comic (which Annie rejects, but still), seeing that was kind of like finding out that your parents are having sex. And then there's the fact that it might seem to her like he's cheating on Jones, but ... his relationship with Jones is probably pretty unique, since he's known her since he was a child and she's immortal. And then there's this small inset frame showing James' reaction to the very suggestion. Why would the suggestion upset James? Probably because at some level he's always thought of her as Surma reincarnated, complicating his feelings about Annie. Hmm. Yeah. Err. And. We know he was deeply in love with Surma, he knows her spirit went into Annie, and he still hasn't gotten over being dumped for Tony. This conversation is likely to be interesting.

Geez, Idra. I put my foot in my mouth sometimes but that's a VERY unfortunate comment
What I'm getting from this chapter so far is that everyone is very self-absorbed and not very observant

We don't know exactly how much Jones weighs, but it's not an outrageously large amount: she can sit on a coffee table without it collapsing (in panel 4). This makes sense if we take her to be made of something with density comparable to stone ( 2300-2800 kg/m3, compared to the density of human body at 1000 kg/m3). A woman of her proportions would weigh somewhere in the region of 60 kg, which would put Jones in the 140-170 kg range. That's the weight of a professional sumo wrestler, such as these two: you would notice that they barely sink up to their ankles even when wrestling, i.e. pushing hard against the sand.

I love that panel, but I always wondered whether she actually sits on the coffee table, or just squats such that she doesn't put her full weight on it. That would be a silly explanation of course and I should just take it as given, but it would be hilarious.
