So I guess this will be a routine chapter?

I think it's about time all the Chekhov's guns started going off. Here's hoping.

Is it chapter 77 or 78? Even Tom doesn't know

The chapter titles have gotten ominous recently. I am immediately thinking of either Coyote's grand plan and the seed Bismuth. Seeing the thumbnail is something misty, it reminds me of this one. So I am guessing the seed Bismuth, since the only times we had such mist was in the Court's past (as imagined by Jeanne and filled in by Ayilu though, but still).

That looks like an atomic arrangement. Bismuth has a rhombohedral or trigonal structure. I think the arrangement of atoms can look like what has been shown from some angles. So I suspect this chapter may deal with the Seed Bismuth.

I thought the same about the chapter cover.
The thumbnail looks like ship sailing off into the horizon (or coming from the horizon).

And we know the Lake Water is a memory of Coyote that will starts his long plan. So maybe that is what the cover and title represents?

People have been speculating that we might be near the end of the series. I don't think we are but do think we are more than half-way through. Usually the climax of a story is near the mid-point and the second half is largely the results of the climax. I see the freeing of Jeanne as the climax of the story suggesting that we are somewhere between five eighths and two thirds of the way through. Also there are seven years in a secondary school in Britain. We are towards the end of the fourth year. This fits in with what I suggested about where we are in the story.

Also the thumbnail might be a bismuth crystal. Granted it is not fancy or colourful enough but it might be a blurred picture.

We're into the 5th year now aren't we? Although I admit I kinda lost track of time after Loup's emergence skipped time forward by 6 months and cancelled a lot of the school-based methods of us keeping track of time.

My fist thought, of the chapter thumbnail, was a sailing ship of the first Court settlers. Don't know whose memory that would be. It would be interesting, if the memory in the Lake Water, was one stolen from Ysengrin. Then, maybe the Seed Bismuth. Big maybe. The chapter title gives a Pythagorean vibe.

To me, the thumbnail definitely looks like a ship. Not necessarily this ship, but...

Geometric image, enigmatic title, icon that looks like a ship at sea or perhaps an island ...
Given the amount of mystery in this story, there sure are a lot of things for something to be behind, aren't there?

Hm. Given the title, and the lights that look like they *could* be set/arena lights, I'm going to put my wild speculation guess token on going to the Department of Meta-universal Affairs.

Not unlike the Seraphims' Their eyes are seven-segmented, but even so, this is highly evocative of their eyes.

I'm fascinated. I feel like this chapter could be about Bismuth or Antimony (Ysengrin's fateful line " they mean to take you away!" was telling). But probably we'll learn a bit more about Bismuth and the Court. This is partly because we've been told Loup is going to die when he learns of the plan in the lake water, which should happen soon, since they found the lake water two chapters ago. I suspect because Loup said "There is nothing that can kill me, except for myself!" that it must be Coyote's tooth that will kill him. So I predict that either we'll learn some things about the Court and what mission they're hatching to get the lake water to Loup, and therefore about Bismuth, or that we'll learn something about/from Loup if he finds out about the Court's mission or if he gets confronted in this chapter, and henceforth about Bismuth.

Clearly those are Coyote's seven eyes That was my first thought, but they look too regimented a pattern to be Coyote, whose patterns are usually much more chaotic.
