This is actually... kinda creepy?
Annie is going through an incredibly stressful emotional time in her life and the plan is to take her out to have fun, then completely change gears, put her on the spot, and propose a romantic relationship? Why would anyone think this was a good idea?
Even as teenagers, this feels like a really rushed and awkward thing to do. They've barely interacted. The last time she saw him he was still crushing on/possibly involved with Janet. Did literally anybody think this through for longer than two seconds?

We saw Kat mention previously that Winsbury was one of the leaders in being angry at Annie being held back a year, but Annie thought they were making fun of her with the card they sent. Here she realises they are being nice again, if Winsbury asks her out she is just going to think it is all one big joke they are playing on here again... Then again, that scene at the end of Love Boat when she is alone and everyone else is hugging a partner... maybe she would be interested in something. |

Well they they did tell people then subverted it. Don't forget that they'd been dating for years. I can't remember which chapter it is but they were dating from virtually the first day. That is a long time for someone that age. |

I suspect there's a level of this we're not comprehending yet. I suggest we wait at least one more page before we make any conclusions... I agree that this seems incredibly stupid on Kat's part ("Annie is feeling super unstable. Let's get her a boyfriend, because that doesn't complicate anything!"), so I'm guessing there's more to it than that. Kat's not that stupid, and she knows the complications of relationships (they get you kidnapped by scary fundamentalist robot zealots, for example). Then again, that scene at the end of Love Boat when she is alone and everyone else is hugging a partner... maybe she would be interested in something. There's always been speculation over whether Annie is asexual/aromantic, or just awkward as she sometimes seems. We might get some things to discuss in this vein in this chapter. The more I think on this, the more aggravated I'm getting at Kat. Setting someone up with someone else without warning one of them is already a major no-no. (Heck, I myself am annoyed any time someone tries doing it with me even when both me and the lady are informed beforehand. It creates a seriously awkward situation and expectations). Doing it while she KNOWS Annie's mental state is seriously messed up? Potentially putting her on the spot in front of her entire friend group the FIRST time she's been able to see them since start of term? Gahhh. Seriously, what the *hell*, Kat? Also 8 minutes in and no topic? Tsk! Sorry, I was busy bingeing Darker than Black... Oooh. I rather liked that anime. Still haven't checked out the Sequel Season, or the Interquel though. In those Victorian novels Janet reads, this is a setup for "No one must know about our secret marriage, but the young Master of Whatzit is being harassed by his father and mother Lord and Lady Whatzit to show more interest in debutantes than in [pick one: horses, dogs, gambling, "bookish pursuits"], and highly-perfumed, mincing Prince Bloggs is showing an unhealthy interest in him, and my father the Squire is beginning to wonder why I spend so much time with Lady Whatzit, so we are desperate to throw them all off the scent, so my lover will show a false interest in bluestocking Miss Unlikely, knowing she'll have none of him".
I think this is starting to give me bad flashbacks to the scene where the young Valkyrie "asks out" Anthony. I really hope we get a good dose of "not clones of our parents" in this chapter.

Winbury von Goku still seems awfully friendly with whatserface to not only no longer be dating her, but also be comfortable asking out another girl in her presence.
