If she did this on purpose, that means she did what Anthony was probably trying to do.
And if it was indeed the hair that serves as the connection, that means whatever Anthony was trying wouldn't have worked.

Wait... Is this why Annie cut her hair? To split herself between her humanity and ethereality? Her hair does strongly represent her tie to the ether. I mean, maybe she wasn't lying when she denied that her fathe r cut her hair...
Also this. (The hair matches!) Whoops, I was ninja'd WAAAY before I even posted. I need to type faster I think, haha.

If nothing else, the fact that the thinks things 'went well' means she's measuring wellness on a whole different metric than anyone else. I don't know man, I'm almost getting the vibe of an anorexic looking in the mirror and being happy at how many ribs s/he can count. Her other self does not look happy... not one bit.

I theorize she'll die if she keeps this up. She seems okay at the moment...But yeah, we need to know more. So much more.

SO, uh, she managed to make it into a separate (or maybe semi-separate) entity by cutting her hair?
*is confused*
And yeah, the fire elemental looks like she wants to burn something.

Some thought: maybe the elemental. And some thought: maybe the hair. Looks like both were right. (Didn't expect the cut, but it makes sense.) Well, I suppose it makes some sense: we've seen things in the ether affect things in reality, and Coyote said that human belief shapes the ether. If Annie truly believed that cutting her hair could somehow curtail her fire elemental powers, then a hair cut really could do that. I wonder what limitations (if any) there are on human belief shaping the ether?

HODANG, JUST READ THE /CO/ THREAD.
WHAT IF SHE USED COYOTE'S TOOTH TO CUT OUT HER FIRE ELEMENT AND NOW IT'S A NEW AND SEPARATE ENTITY LIKE SHADOW?

Yeah, all you folk who think Annie is a weak little girl victimized by her cruel Father: She thinks things went well, not because she's an anorexic looking in the mirror at how much weight she lost, but because she's playing a whole different game in which her Father is simply not that much of a problem.

Human Annie looks very pleased with herself. Fire Annie looks ready to burn the world. Or only burn Anthony, more likely.

This could mean many different things.
Example, this could mean Annie is doing the forest creatures in classroom thing where her inner self does one thing, and her body is doing another, and her inner self may look like this when separate for a while, just as one of forest creatures would flip to looking like a fish if he didn't concentrate.
This could mean when Annie was in forest creatures classroom and they broke connection between "inner self" and body they did something permanent.
Or it could mean recently dad or Annie did something to separate... if Annie likely more than just cut hair as she still had fire when she was kid with short hair.
We really don't know what it means to be separate, if personality becomes split in two, if she gets "weak" if she is away from other part for too long. If she gets pregnant, then her kid may still get the fire portion and she may slowly die.

"It's all part of my master plan." In all seriousness I hope she doesn't screw this up. I'm going to take a wild guess that there's repercussions for splitting your own being in half. ...something like a horcrux? i wonder if surma ever did stuff like this

Ok, that's pretty cool... Well done Tom! I don't know if fire elementals ever look happy, at least I don't think we've ever seen one drawn like that, so unsure if that means anything. This though... We seem to be assuming this is Annie's work, seperating the elemental side of her, she looks very happy here. But I wondered if it was her father who succeeded and has now got the girl he wanted, and the wild fire elemental side is now seperate. I am going to have to go back and read the previous two chapters all over again now knowing this though... And that was excellent work Tom with the artistic Annie cutting her hair boonus page last chapter being mirrored in the fire elemental here. It does seem to be missing the crown though?

Mmm, yes. Because someone reacting with rage, or crafting some kind of plan to fix the issue means they weren't a victim of abuse. May I snort right back?

oooook.... sure.... so what we have here is her ethereal form made manifest outside her body. Multiple personality disorder where your other personality has its own body to give you a hand with stuff. For me this is truly bad. It's worse than seeing Anthony Carver being ... well... himself. The cut is like mutilation. I really do not care if it is self inficted and serves a purpose. It's creepy and makes the elemental look extra scary. Also I am not releasing the fireworks just yet. This is Annie working alone, yet again keeping secrets from Kat. Doing her own thing. Can't say I like it. I thought there were two sides here. Kat and Annie on the one side, Anthony on the other. Seems Annie has her own side all to herself.

It's hard to say at this point who's responsible for this, but 'That went rather well' and the fact she seems to be aware and welcoming of her fire side seems to imply that she has had some hand in this.

Well now, that's something else!
I'm wondering what exactly, according to Annie, "went well". If she's referring to the dinner with the Donlans I'm hoping she's being sarcastic.

I had no idea what would await in the ceiling last Wednesday, and I'm still uncertain what this means. Though the theory brought up by Chancellor makes an awful lot of sense. Incidentally, don't these threads usually have an indication which page they refer to in the title? Like "[1531] That went quite well"?

If she gets pregnant, then her kid may still get the fire portion and she may slowly die. Wait a minute. Surma died because she passed the fire elemental part of herself onto Annie, or after it was removed from her body. So what happens to Annie if the fire elemental part of her is removed? Couldn't, theoretically, the same thing happen to her anyway even if the reason she lost the elemental part of herself was different?

HODANG, JUST READ THE /CO/ THREAD. WHAT IF SHE USED COYOTE'S TOOTH TO CUT OUT HER FIRE ELEMENT AND NOW IT'S A NEW AND SEPARATE ENTITY LIKE SHADOW? Then I believe she's screwed. She'll get weaker and eventually expire. The tooth should be with Renard. So I'll guess that's not what happened.

Seems Annie has her own side all to herself. Well, that's one hell of a dissociation. We need a new DSM category for etheric DID. In The Flock, the author describes some positive side effects of DID: for some time, one of her left-handed personalities could read and annotate a book while at the same time one of her right-handed personalities followed the lecture and wrote down what the professor said. Of course, that looked totally bonkers, so she ended up taking only one pen to university...

Dang, I was thinking we were in for a simple rut of hating Anthony (level of Annie's Keikakus aside, I think we can agree he's still a bag of dicks) and having frustrating zombie Annie. But now, now there's fresh questions burning, and at this point very urgently with speculation as to what this all means. Tom's doing it right.
