A technical knockout (TKO or T.K.O.) is declared when the referee or official ring physician decide that a fighter cannot safely continue the match. In boxing, this can happen if the fighter fails the 10 count, or, in many regions, a fighter has been knocked down three times in one round.

Either way, the point is still that Annie, in gaming terms, has been blown the f**k out.

Also: Technical knockout, for when the ref decides a fighter can't continue the match safely. edit: ninja'd

A gene knockout (abbreviation: KO) is a genetic technique in which one of an organism's genes are made inoperative ("knocked out" of the organism). The terms triple knockout (TKO) and quadruple knockouts (QKO) are used to describe three or four knocked out genes, respectively.
Wikipedia quotes. Doesn't that fit with the idea that Anthony is trying to remove Annie's fire elemental connection i.e. by making the biological part of her that is fire elemental inoperative? I don't know much about biology, but considering this was his motivation with Surma, it could fit that his actions here are trying to do the same for Annie.

I also have to wonder when this nightmarish sequence is going to end. I mean yeesh, what can the man due next, order her into the operating theater? Yes. That is his next plan, yes. *snaps gloves* Anthony is stepping far, far beyond any reasonable bounds in any circumstances, ethically or legally. He's inserted himself into the diplomacy of what are essentially two warring countries (by trying to remove Annie as medium). He's taking away all of the sources of emotional support in Annie's life (her classmates and Kat and Rey). And he's undermining her self-confidence by failing her out of a year of classes (even if she did cheat, I think we can agree that Tony's intent is to invalidate her self-worth). And the obvious parallel is this page. *heart breaks*

Sent back a year. 2. Removed from the Friends apartment. 3. Taking Renard away.

This is the most blatant visualization of dissociation I've ever seen. She is so out of her body that she's floating in space. Poor Annie. Yup. If this turns out to not be a dream, hallucination, or something along those lines (very much doubt it is any of those, myself), then this captures dissociation incredibly well. It brings to mind Silversun Pickups' album Swoon, and how well it captures the essence of a nervous breakdown. Panic Switch in particular. [EDIT: I should state that I'm not talking about the music video (it's a pretty expected and rote way of handling it), but the music in particular. Shoegaze Rock works VERY well for that kind of theme and the mood necessary]. (Possible epilepsy warning. I don't know what might trigger, but this video has image flickering, color flashes, and that sort of thing. Heads up just in case).

I think at this point we can say that speculation suggesting that the court summoned anthony to deal with antimony is basically true. There's no way Mr. Control Freak would just coincidentally demand something the headmaster tried and failed at eariler. I also have to wonder when this nightmarish sequence is going to end. I mean yeesh, what can the man do next, order her into the operating theater? I think we're the ones having the nightmare.

this fortunately shouldn't last for too long (wonder how jones, anja, Donny, and eglamore will react to this) There was previously discussion of whether Coyote would fight Anthony either on behalf of Antimony as The Forest's putative representative or just for the fun of fighting. My guess (just a guess and speculation, "Because Coyote, Who Knows") is that although he was willing - he says - to let Reynardine be trapped by The Court as a whole largely in the persons of people like Eglamore, Anja and Donald, he is NOT going to be willing to have Reynardine and the powers Reynardine holds used as a tool by Anthony for heaven knows what, including potentially an attack on The Forest in some way.

Hmm. Thinking on the Renard issue, I wonder how much longer it will be before Renard is completely freed from human control. I'm going to bet Renard will get his freedom soon, as a result of the events that transpire because of this page.
Random speculation: Renard will possess Anthony.

I agree. At this point Anthony is crossing Coyote twice at once. First, removing Annie as the forest medium, which will not please Coyote nor Ysengrim. And at the same time trying to take control of Renard. And it's not like the court has plausible deniability. He explicitly works for them now.

I have a feeling that Reynard was the end game here. Isolating Annie and what I guess is in Antony's opinion is 'setting her on the right path' is just some flyby parenting by someone who is far more 'nature' over 'nurture' and doesn't experience a bond with his child.
This is more about Reynard and the Court than Antimony.

Oh no! The power of the jerk's Anthony's words has knocked Antimony clean into orbit, and into a whole other art style! All I can say is - I hope that is an internal "ok", and you're actually saying "okay, I need to say no". Because if you just agreed to hand Rey over to an unknown like your father... I'll be sad. Anthony can't force her - the court couldn't. And if he tries... well, she should give him to Kat. Also the symbolism of what's going on in Antimony's head is interesting. And for me is further cementing how unacceptable Anthony's strategy is, regardless of his goals - good or ill. This isn't excusable. This has gone from jerkish to outright manipulative. Urg, just... URG! *readies fist* Actually, I think he's completely dispensing with manipulation now. His other demands could be spun as being purely out of the interests of her school work - the forest is a distraction, staying around Kat could tempt her to cheat again, etc. This though? "Oh, and the sapient being who doesn't live with you, and cares for himself, but who is bound to you? I'll need you to give him to me". Why? How, exactly, does Anthony having Rey assist Antimony in achieving academic success? It doesn't.

I was raised to think that a "TKO" was a "technical knockout", meaning that the referee or ring physician declares it unsafe for the fighter to continue, even if conscious. (For instance, in some contests, if a fighter is knocked down three times in one round.)

Annie is doing absolutely the right thing, here. This falls under the "do not argue with the cop at the side of the road" rule, although it is not morally or legally equivalent. Take the ticket, see your lawyer. Fighting with the cop only makes things worse.
In Annie's case, she capitulates now, and gets answers to her questions later. Immediate cooperation right now, though, is the best way to show contrition and a willingness to do better.
===
I confess, even I do not like this. I think I understand why Mr. Carver is isolating Annie like this--same reason you isolate circuits when troubleshooting to find out where the interference is coming from. I don't think he means to permanently isolate her.
But I am very concerned for Reynardine's well being. Mr. Carter needs to know that Reynardine is not the uncontrolled monster he was--and I think James will vouch for him. In Annie's shoes, I'd condition the transfer of custody on Reynardine being treated well. Again, Eglamore is someone I think Reynardine and Anthony both trust to some degree, and possibly even Annie.
I'll be very interested to see what Reynardine himself has to say.

Ok I expected a comment about Renard, I didn't expect Annie to just acquiesce that easily. That 'Okay' has just transferred control, even if she changes her mind later. Since after only a short period in Annie's possession Renard has been acting as a father figure towards her, and in the last 2 years has been a much better father than Tony ever was. Annie should have realised this, or at least will come to realise this very soon.
I have a hard time believing a lot of this chapter will stand, simply because it has stripped almost everything that defines Annie from her, and she has just meekly acquiesced. I understand that the shock from meeting her father for the first time has rendered her shocked and more compliant, I assume this is what Tony was planning on, hitting her with bad thing after bad thing then finishing with the taking away of Renard, but still. What happened to the fire? Perhaps this chapter is the turning point where Annie gathers allies and ends up leading a revolution against the court?
The only way I can see this ending better is if Renard ends up doing a Hetty on Tony.

Next is her blinker stone, then he will cut her hair short. Then there will be a 5-year timeskip where she only studies in isolation (?) Short hair might be ok (if she wants short hair - against her will is terrible) - I think Antimony would rock it just as well as Kat.

No no no no, you have it all wrong!!! Silly human fools. I care nothing for the Forest, except as sycophants. Of course. But I AM entirely a creature of chaos. I love to keep things interesting, to roll the dice, as it were. It was fun to have my dear cousin trapped in the Court. It was fun to force him to be bound to a human he'd inevitable fall in love with - just look at his entertaining angst over his attack on his beloved Annie! But that game is over now, and I'm booooored. I didn't think it through well enough, as usual - with my dear cousin gone, there is no one who appreciates my wit left around. Ysengrin acts like Annie on this page: his suffering isn't the entertaining kind of suffering, and so I'm not interested in it! I need my fox back. So I've been working to steal my favorite cousin back from those silly bureaucrats across the river. But if our dear Mr. Carver gets his grubby hands on my cousin, that'll be no fun, since he'll be locked up forever! It's time for a new gambit, but I need Renard to not be locked away Coyote knows where.

I imagine this was probably Mr. Carver's primary goal in this conversation. I wonder how firmly he would press his other points if they were challenged by someone with authority or power? Whether he intentionally designed it to head toward this goal or not, his speech/actions worked out perfectly to leave her in a state of being completely broken down/defenseless emotionally and mentally, ready to agree with anything he demanded - at least for a few minutes before she has time to recover her equilibrium. I've seen this method of hitting a person with repeated verbal blows used very effectively by politicians against people who disagreed with them in forum settings, and by groups/gangs of middle school to university-age students (often female, as research shows males are more likely to bully using physical force). Does Reynardine have to be present for the exchange of authority to take place? That could be a hope, if there is some delay that gives Annie time to think and/or someone else time to intervene. On the other hand, if it's like (pardon me for again bringing my work into it, but I think it's actually a point of curiousity) when an officially delegated child welfare worker here where I live "removes" a minor from a parent or guardian's legal custody: Usually they talk it over and "do" it directly with everyone involved, in person, because among other things that leads to the best decisions and results; however, technically the "removal" takes place solely because they say and write that it is taking place (after consultation with and approval by their team leader, followed by filling out many many pages of court documents, computer records, and so on). The minor could be at school, or summer camp, or in prison, or missing...

That 'Okay' has just transferred control, even if she changes her mind later. No, the transfer of custody won't happen until Annie tells Reynardine to obey her Father. I am shaking my head here. Annie is stronger than that. She is defined by her character, and not by the people she has collected around her.
