I can do the Photoshop part for a german translation*, even better, i'm one of approximately 12 people in the world who possess a legal copy.
But I'd have to be sure that something comes out of it. If you think your project is worth translating GC and have Toms Permission to do so - mention it here (don't PM) and I'll see if I can help.
(I'd also correct the translation while I'm at it)
*I could make text-free versions available for other translation-projects (if Tom agrees) - or you could just ask Tom to upload his.

It will take a little longer than I expected 'cause the fonts Tom uses lack diacritics, so, I've got to put them by hand. Or I could get around modifying them to add diacritics. Hm. |

Yeah, I translated the first couple of pages to german and get the same problem with ä, ö, ü.
Adding all those to the font would be cool. I guess this would be even worse for French or Czech etc.

I was just about to start translating it into Russian when I realised there's no Cyrillic version of the typeface. I'd be happy to spend a couple hours reworking the characters but, same as with the diacritics, altering isn't allowed. Or is that only applicable if you publish it? Anyway, probably no Russian unless I can find a really similar Cyrillic font or something.

So this thread here made me register on the forum. I'm a native German speaker, but since there are already people translating it into German, I guess that's covered, although I could check over those and give my input. Other than that, I'm also a native Chinese speaker, so I could try my hand at that (if there is a fitting Chinese font, that is...), and I've had more than two years of Latin, which means that I could see if I can look into that. Just for fun though, university might keep me busy. Next to that, transliterations of the names into Chinese is going to be painful. And although I'm proficient enough with photoshop to be able to put in text, I don't think I'll do it right now. It consumes more time than I normally have, and I'm already working on a translation project =/ Other than that, this sounds like a neat idea! The font is called "Ale and Wenches" the one on the first page is "Spirit Medium". Both and more can be found here: www.blambot.com/fonts.shtmlThat may not be correct. Ale and Wenches is a very simple (light) font that does not contain all the glyphs used as dialog on the pages of Gunnerkrigg Court. The most notice able is the recurrence of Ł (Dark 'L') We've also seen ę, and ź a few times. And they are in the same style as Ale and Wenches. So unless Siddell says otherwise, and we assume hes not hand drawing the extra characters, it's not Ale and Wenches that you see, but something close to it. I was just about to modify the font with fontforge but the license under which it's published doesn't allow any altering. The License that I see (aug 09') for Ale and Wenches says that you can't redistribute it without permission. It does not have a no-alteration clause. However you would have to get permission to give the alteration to anyone else. |

Hello there, Since someone went and resurrected this thread from the ashes, I've decided to speak up now that it's up here... For a little over the last month I've been working on crafting a Polish translation of the comic. Here are some examples: #1#3#7#19#39If you're interested, you can try reading through the translated episodes published so far in here (click to the right of the picture to read on), though it's not the complete collection FIXED NOW, albeit slowly (damned buggy website). I've also published the translation on a certain Polish forum, joemonster.org, which - among others - features a lot of self-made Polish translations of foreign comics regularly submitted by the forum regulars. I must say that even though GC is different from most of the comics on Joemonster (most are short, gag-a-day strips with little continuity), it has been received very enthusiastically, and a couple of people have been inspired to read through the whole comic in the original version after seeing my translation. |

Haha ^^ I took a closer look at Stonehenge (don't read what I wrote, I'm not satisfied with that translation and haven't worked at it for months) 1. Ale and Wenchesnkdev.de/misc/aw.jpg2. Stonehengenkdev.de/misc/sh_n.jpgThe big problem here is that the font has pretty large capital letters and the lines are pretty thin - I had to set the rendering style to "strong" (if it's like like that in english) to make the lines a bit thicker. 3. Stonehenge with a couple of tweaksnkdev.de/misc/sh_minu.jpgI got rid of capital letters, increased the font size to 17pt and changed the line spacing to 14pt. The bold parts are Faux Bold because Stonehenge doesn't come with a bold face. I think it's pretty close. |

I think Gunnerkrigg court its fine, La corte/cancha/ de Gunnerkrigg doesnt sound particularly cool and many translated works on my country leave that kind of stuff in its original language... |
