I can definitely proof-read over any German translation, being native speaker as well, and I dare say I have a firm grasp of the language in written form. I agree it would be a nice tool for anyone who wants to learn that language. Should be interesting to see what comes from this. That sounds great! That would be a plus. I don't live in Germany anymore, so I sometimes fall out of practice. I have a photobucket account, but I don't trust them because of things I've heard. Does it sound okay for me to start a thread with a link to hosted pages on imageshack (which I trust more) "...But until then, if anyone wants the chapters in other languages perhaps encouraging them to join the forums and email the original translators with a request would be a better course of action." -is what Asuka said - maybe that would be better? Instead of each language having a thread, they're all grouped together in one thread post (the first one), and there are links to the authors of the translations whom you should send a PM to - and then they can go about sending you places to read this stuff. Or you can send you zip files or what not - Does that sound unsafe? Might people abuse the zip files? Or the photoshare sites? I don't know what they would do with translations, run to a comic site in their country and post it as their own work? |

Shouldn't the japanese pages be flipped around? I consider flipping an artist's work to be unnecessary and completely insulting to them. I've never understood that, even though I know some artists do mind. It's not like you're adding comedy beards to the characters you dislike. |

It's like Megatokyo's print books... Since they were written in english, that's the way it should stay- left to right. A lot of Manga's are written Right to Left, because the original language was that way. I would say that you should keep the art original and add a note that it reads left to right.

I will proofread if someone translates to Japanese, but I don't have the time to do it properly myself unfortunately.
Not to be nasty Asuka, but there's a couple of mistakes on those pages you posted, or at least things I would have done differently.
「私に何の用」 is fine, but you're alternating between polite form and informal. 「手伝い」 literally means "helper", which could work, but I'd use 「助け」 or 「助けて」 to mean "help" (it's unclear whether the ghost is using it as a verb or noun, but I'd probably go with verb for comprehension's sake). For "Where are you trying to go?" 「行きたい」 is ok , but it means want, rather than try. In that case I'd use 「どこに行ってみたいですか」 which keeps the wanting part, but adds in "try" as well.
I'd go through the other page as well, but I feel like I'm being rude already. Please don't take it the wrong way, what you've done is really great, it's just some areas are a bit iffy. I'd be happy to look over the translations if you want a second set of eyes, but if not that's fine too :)

As in お手伝いしましょうか. As for 私に何の用、I made Annie's speech less formal than her narrative dialogue, with more colloquial terms and conjunctions. I daresay the tenses are pretty consistent. I honestly don't know what you're talking about with 行きたい, since I used 行くつもり. No offense meant to you, but your corrections and reasoning show a very juvenile grasp of the language. I've been studying Japanese for almost eight years and I'm taking 日本語能力試験１級 in December. I should hope that something as simple as Gunnerkrigg would not present a problem for me. I just discovered this thread... I can provide a french translation (Native speaker here), only technically though ; I don't have enough skills to edit myself the pages.
I think I'd keep the original names, I don't know for other countries but french in majority like english pronunciations, translating everything is just not right.

The only thing I have to add to this discussions is that maybe Shadow 2 should be translated as the actual japanese word for shadow followed by their word for two, or just the number 2 or something. The only reason for this is that otherwise the name won't make sense to the reader. Thats all I have to say.

Hey, is anyone really, really good with Photoshop or other such image manipulation software?
I dunno whether El Equipo Español is proficient with such things.
EDIT: I found somebody who is good with Photoshop and is willing to do this if the URL and text are given to them as a pro bono service.

He uses a font called Ales and Whores, I think. Commercial font. I may be misremembering though.

Just curious, how come you didn't just translate shadow two into those actual words in Japanese? Instead of reproducing his name phonetically, I mean. This is really cool. I wish I could do this into Chinese, but like Cenit, I don't have the skills of an artist to do so. Also, my Chinese is not good enough. Boo hoo! Oh well. I'm probably going to take Japanese next year at university, so maybe I'll be able to read this one day! Funsies! edit: Ni hao, popo! (Haha I can't type characters on this computer, only on my non-internet connected laptop, so you can suffer through pinyin!) Also, I don't see why non-native speakers shouldn't be allowed to translate! I don't really want to translate it into mandarin because I have a lot of things going on right now, and like I said, my vocabulary isn't too large anyway, but really, I don't see why I shouldn't be able to try, if I wanted to. Translating is a great way to use and learn a language. As long as you're not saying it's the gosh golly 100% CORRECT VERSION, and are open to corrections from people more experienced than you, it's all in good fun really! |

Wow! This is still alive! It's been awhile!
I really can't remember. But honestly, "Kage sono ni" sounds a lot more technical and not as cool as "Shado-tsu-." Maybe it had something to do with how I read it to the girls originally.
