Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I also forgot to mention Lackadaisycats, which has an amazing Prohibition-era St. Louis story arc. Also, the characters are cats. Enough said. Lackadaisy is very good, and I forgot to list it... My god that slow update schedule, though. At least Dresden Codak's plot goes places when it updates.

I just finished ARD. Wow. Good mix of lighthearted and dark (It seems like a positive webcomic, even if there is so much blood and violence), and I love the relationship between Ville and Hannu. The characters and repetetive plot element strongly reminded me of Native American legends. The art style was beautiful but less functional than I'm used to - every so often, especially during actions scenes, I would have to look a little bit closer to figure out what was going on. Overall 9/10 would reread in a year or two.

fanofts I did mention Derelict in the other thread! The second book I still haven't warmed up to, but the first one was genius, everything I want in a comic.

It's time for this topic again.. Okay. Absolute best ones I read (or have read, in case they ended):* Gunnerkrigg Court - duh!* A Redtail's Dream (finished) - a comic of eerie beauty about Scandinavian mythology. Highly recommended. * Stand Still. Stay Silent - a comic from the same author, blending realistic post-apocalyptic world with some fantasy, again Scandinavian-based. * Ava's Demon - another absolutely beautiful comic in an unusual "storyboard" style of one frame per page. Features some surprises as to comic format and in general creative and pretty. * Freefall - a very witty webcomic if you give it a chance. Hard sci-fi with a light touch of furry (but believe me, it's far from being the focus), swinging between slapstick comedy and serious philosophy. * PHD Comics - technically, the oldest webcomic that's still running! Excellent satire of the academic community. * Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - a comic that requires brains and education to follow, but my oh my is it worth it. Scientific jokes are great. * XKCD - come on, everyone knows that one. Refined art of stick figures with a lot of brains to it. * Inverloch (finished) - a captivating fantasy story with the artist greatly progressing in skill as it went. Highly recommended. Honourable mentions (no descriptions or links):Story comics:* Wilde Life * Zap! (finished) * Questionable Content * Cosmic Dash * Bird Boy * Flipside * Bittersweet Candy Bowl * Candi * Darths & Droids * Death and the Maiden (indefinite hiatus) * Dresden Codak * Girl Genius * Housepets * Modest Medusa * Romantically Apocalyptic * The Zombie Hunters * TwoKinds * Phoenix Requiem (finished) * Dreamless (finished, short) Unconnected comics:* Maximumble * Hark, A Vagrant! * Penny Arcade * What The Duck * Abstruse Goose * Buni * Dilbert * Nerf NOW!! * Oglaf! * Scandinavia and the World * StupidFox * The Oatmeal * The Perry Bible Fellowship * Wumo

Is it weird that the only webcomic I read is GKC? I don't know.. I'm not really big on multitasking and reading a whole bunch of different comics at once.

I've been waiting to read Stand Still Stay Silent. Quite enjoyed A Redtail's Dream. I HEAVILY HEAVILY recommend Ava's Demon (saw it on only a few lists on this thread). It is so stylish, and generally quite interesting. For those who do read relatively furry comics I also recommend Skin Deep. As for other things I'm reading in roughly the order of favourites at top: Rice Boy (Overside Universe) - surreal and stylish world, good characters, very good art style (for how minimalist it is with Rice Boy at least) Gunnerkrigg Court Schlock Mercenary - probably one of the longest ever for the quality it has kept up (of everything except art), and also quite hard sci fi Kill Six Billion Demons - like the 36 Lessons of Vivec mixed with a melting pot of gods and cultures Freefall - generally interesting sci fi, keeps its light heart for the sometimes heavy topics it gets into Questionable Content Dresden Codak Namesake - mishmash of [classic fantasy stories] and alternate universes of sorts Prequel: Or Making a Cat Cry Paranatural - the art style reminds me of FLCL for some reason. Maybe it's just that main character kid's face. Twokinds Sister Claire Monster Pulse Guilded Age

I can't believe no one has mentioned Sluggy Freelance, the first, the oldest, and the best of all webcomics, the great granddaddy of all that has come since. Fifteen years of regular daily updates and still getting more and more Nifty. Gunnerkrigg's the only one of the later breed that comes close to touching it, and even it can't compete with Sluggy's precipitous climb from a simple gag a day strip about two friends into something of awesome breadth, complexity, and beauty, something which over the years has spanned genres from comedy to tragedy and science fiction to fantasy, all while weaving freakin hilarious parodies of popular books and movies into the main thread of the plot so deftly that you'd never even realize what was going on if you weren't familiar with the source.

I HEAVILY HEAVILY recommend Ava's Demon (saw it on only a few lists on this thread). It is so stylish, and generally quite interesting. And just took a somewhat disturbing turn with some explicit gore.

And just took a somewhat disturbing turn with some explicit gore. Not really a turn. Gil got boiled until his skin was coming off, Ava got impaled and Odin obliviously tracked her blood around with his socks... ...and really, that webcomic is just getting started. Ava's only just made her pact.

Clan of the Cats has kinda started up again, after a long hiatus. Three pages were posted – last Friday in October and two first Fridays in November. Since then, two Fridays have passed without new pages. I just hope this latest hiatus turns out shorter than the previous one. CotC remains the first comic this reader never abandoned. I'd really like to see the current story, The Vengeance of Dracula, finished. ... and on another note, the web version of my favourites at the Webcomic List is working again.

Anyone ever read Starslip? It ended about two years ago but it was pretty humourous.

I delicately read (that is, check in on update day) Gunnerkrigg Court Questionable Content Bad Machinery (Which recently came to an end and i have all the sad because of that because it's a brilliant comic and Tom's favorite apparently which is how i learned about it in the first place)
I also check in periodically with: Hark, A vagrant Scandinavia and the World Girls with slingshots PHDComics Emily Carrol's comics Lackadaisy (Which is about the prohibitions era ... with cats!)

Hey, never seen that comic before, looks good, I'll read it after I finish EGS . If I ever finish EGS (still 1346 pages to go, the art is acceptable by now.)

Eh, don't worry, EGS has no buffer whatsoever, so it regularly stalls in it's update schedule. OK, but the reason I have trouble finishing it has more to do with the comic itself. I like the characters, but I'm not to impressed with his storytelling. And I guess I don't really understand the references to high school culture.

Unfortunately, there really isn't any way around the story problems in EGS. It does get better with the art, but the fundamental problems also never go away. Based on the number you posted earlier of 1346 pages to go, you're at about www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=648 or thereabouts? You could try skipping to www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=820, and reading from there. (Personally, I'd say pages 909 and later are better than what came previously, and reading pages 820-909 can familiarize you with the status quo that the "sisters II" plotline kicks off from)

Eh, don't worry, EGS has no buffer whatsoever, so it regularly stalls in it's update schedule. Hey, in the past couple weeks EGS has had a buffer as large as -11 pages (total of the main storyline, the NP storyline, and sketchbook entries). Yes, that's negative eleven. (It's back up to zero currently.)

Besides Gunnerkrigg: Spinnerette (considering dropping this one) Spinnerette does poorly combine serious story elements with its usually silly universe when it tries to be serious. In its defense, it has recently revealed that the latest plot arc is the result of a new villain's mind-control.
