I'm pretty sure that Annie liked Jack, at least to some degree, and that she did what she did in Faraway Morning because she was still angry about what he did to Renard. Likewise, I think Jack really did reciprocate, and that his behavior since then has been in retaliation, trying to make Annie jealous. Then again, I could be completely wrong. Never was too good at all this relationship stuff. It seems pretty out and out that she's got it bad underneath that cold Carver facade. I dunno, Jack seems like the sort who could sincerely miss every hint Annie tosses out and go about it with nip in his step.

Poll added (top of page). I'm curious. Interestingly, I think this is the first discussion page with a poll ever. Huh, odd.
Add it for Jack too. Maybe Jack but not Zimmy, Neither, Z but not J, and both.

New theory: they stole Zimmy's hair and grafted it to Cookie.

After examining the evidence I really do think Annie's letting her imagination get the best of her again.Kind of like Janet and Margo after they were swept off their respective feet. Imagination is the only way that could possibly be Zimmy, unless something is horribly, horribly wrong. Or maybe the ocean acts like a heat sink the way the rain does? Either way I'm ramblin', that ain't our Zimmy. Question: If this is not the case, why is Jack the first one of the students to go through puberty, Smitty included? Just look at that fuzzy 'goatee'! He should be out tryin' to form a terrible rock band with Trent Lane or something.

I mean, I would like to think I look like Jack, and I definitely have a similar beard and sideburns, and I'm a year younger. Why is no one talking about this?

I just can't imagine Zimmy wearing that outfit and having an eyebrow piercing, but you never know. Thanks for adding a poll, I voted No.
Too bad Jack's hand is over her shoulder. We would be able to see if that circle is on her shirt (the one that is always there, no matter what Zimmy is wearing).

Not all males automatically grow scruff at puberty. It can be more subtle. I've passed the 20 year mark and I'm not particularly hirsute.

This page confused me for a little bit. I am pretty sure that is not Zimmy. If it is I will be amazed.

I could see how that could be Jack, we haven't seen him for a while, and puberty can hit very suddenly, I had the beginnings of facial hair at 13 and could have grown a full on beard at 14 had school let me (although this panel does look a bit sudden to have grown facial hair that doesn't just look like the fluff you see on most 14 year old boys)
That is not Zimmy though. Even assuming that her eyes could change to normal ones, there is no way she would be that fawning on anyone other than Gamma. Assuming it is Jack, this must just be some girl that looks similar enough to Zimmy that Jack is going out with as a substitute.

This thread is hot. 1 page in 20 minutes, I think that's in the top 10 fastest forming threads for this forum. Fastest I've seen, except perhaps the notorious 'is Kat gay' thread. Also, I think they're 14 as well. So you'd be their age exactly. And I certainly didn't have a beard when I was 14, but I suppose it's possible. To me, though, he looks even older than myself (an 18-year-old). So, huh. Maybe this is another of Annie's 'dramatizations'. Or, some sort of time manipulation... (as Zimmy has proved she's capable of)... but that assumes Zimmy has gained more control over her powers... which I doubt Tom would dump here without any foreshadowing... especially if this happened to the level where she no longer needs Gamma... unless Jack acts like the heat sink now... yay for matryoshka theories.

Really what gets me is that girls generally go through it first. I remember most of the girls going through their growth spurts right around 6th or 7th grade (myself included), and then most of the boys suddenly shooting up a year later. And I know the girls have gradually been getting curvier for a while, but this all seems so... sudden. Though we really haven't seen any of the boys (Smitty excluded) for a while. Maybe John and Winsbury will look different too?

I will say that one of my school friends had facial hair from around 13-14, so it's not unheard of. (I am also seriously surprised that our school was never called up on him playing sport, considering that he was a very good sportsman and looked 2-3 years older).
My first thought when I saw that picture was that it was Jack and Zimmy. That leaves me little leeway, considering how good Tom's art is. Maybe the sea air has done Zimmy the world of good?
I am going to wait to see why Annie didn't want to see the couple - it could easily be guilt due to her revenge plot of Jack, being uncomfortable about how Zimmy helped her in the hospital, or insecurity/jealousy that even Zimmy has got a boyfriend whilst she hasn't.

Maybe the sea air has done Zimmy the world of good? Sea air does have lots of moisture and humidity, so it could act like micro-raindrops all over Zimmy's skin...but for me, the mis-colored irises are the clincher.

Mmmmmm...
But the eyes, those terrible red eyes. Even when the rain comes, her eyes stay red, the gunky stuff is just washed away. MAL (Mystery Ashen Lass) lacks the eyes, or the jagged teeth.
That's not even going into the realms of impossibility the situation screams.

Actually my first thought wasn't of Zimmy, but of Hetty gaining human form. I think it was the way the eyebrow piercing and nose appear to form a shape, although on second looks it is not that similar in shape to Hetty's symbol.

How far back does this hypothetical dream sequence extend? Here? Or here? Mr. Dédalo, if you mean to even so much as insinuate that Tom Siddell is setting us up for an "It was all a Dream" ending, so help me, I will slay you where you stand.
