Also, did anyone else notice that the archive doesn't list the chapter number for the current chapter? Haven't noticed that before, so I'm not sure if it's a mistake or the norm 'till the chapter's done. It's nothing unusual for the chapter listing in the archives to show up with the chapter start, or to be delayed by a few days.[/quote] Ah, thanks! Wasn't quite sure. coolpilotThis is a comic about MAGIC! Evidence is nothing compared to magical thinking technique of random connection when convenient!! This is a comic about SCIENCE! Magical thinking technique is nothing compared to the evidence of hard, calculable facts!! Sorry, just HAD to turn that around on you. The opportunity was too great! o(^ ^)o

I've just slogged through all twelve (TWELVE?!) pages... I kept seeing people talking about This girl's eyes as being one of the biggest points in declaring her not!Zimmy. To this, I have a question to ask... Based on today's comic: What color are Annie's eyes? Her eye color has been shown multiple times throughout the years from this distance and wider. Frequently. On pages used as evidence of Zimmy's red eyes. But here, today, up close... Annie's eye color is not visible. They're a sort of periwinkle blue.[ETA: I missed the sarcasm. Oops.]

I know that. As I said, her eye color had been shown in previous comics that were linked to show Zimmy's eye color. But they aren't shown TODAY. That was the key part. The eye color was one of the biggest physical characteristics listed throughout this comment-storm. But in Today's comic, Annie's eyes are not colored. In the close-up shot where she's turning and noticing the couple, her bright blue eyes should be clearly visible, if past be prologue. But they're just black dots... with a little bit of reflective white.
ETA: And I missed your recognition of it while I was typing this. But, I typed it with a smile on my face, so it's all good.

Zimmy's love of Gamma may be cosmically far beyond romantic or sexual love, but it is also born out of simple need. Zimmy needs Gamma. She doesn't need Gamma as a person, she needs the service that she (as far as we know) involuntarily performs. Zimmy *originally* needed Gamma as a telepathic damper, not as a person. However, "originally" was quite a while ago. They've been at the Court for nearly three years that we know of. They had been together for some time before that. Let's call it 4 years minimum. Zimmy's love of Gamma may be cosmically far beyond romantic or sexual love, but it is also born out of simple need. Zimmy needs Gamma. She doesn't need Gamma as a person, she needs the service that she (as far as we know) involuntarily performs. I'm not sure why anyone would think that Gamma is involuntarily helping at this point. The last couple chapters with them have shown that she's well aware of how much Zimmy needs her and she's made the choice to stay by her side and help as much as she can, while also getting on her about doing the right thing. She was most definitely Zimmy's better half in her previous appearances. But that in no way implies that it hasn't been her choice this whole time. Zimmy hasn't been the best kind of friend to her throughout it all, of course, but Annie herself isn't exactly ms. perfect friend to Kat all the time, either. I'm not questionating the depth or purity of their love, but I am saying that they would not necessarily have loved each other had they met without their respective abilities. Me earlier: "Hmm, you know, it's been quite a while since I blacklisted Gunnerkrigg to focus on getting my own story sorted out, but I have that figured out at this point, so I think it's time to finally catch up with my favorite comic! O(^ ^)O" *brings up Crash Course* *laughs, cries, cries PROFUSELY, laughs through the tears, goes AWWWWWWW* *reaches current page* ...why couldn't I come back to Gunnerkrigg on MONDAY? o(- -;)o As for the discussion about... whatever it was that we're calling Zimmy/Not-Zimmy right now (I just went through 12 pages of forums, forgive me for forgetting it), I started out in the "that's Zimmy" camp but have slowly switched over to being fairly sure she's not, given all the prior evidence of her look & character. However, knowing how wildly off course theory-crafting can get, and how soon any theories will be confirmed/shot-down, I'll just leave it to Tom to start telling us know who this is & what's going on with them on Monday. Also, did anyone else notice that the archive doesn't list the chapter number for the current chapter? Haven't noticed that before, so I'm not sure if it's a mistake or the norm 'till the chapter's done. Haha, welcome back. I hope you will not take another hiatus from Tom's glorious comic. I've just slogged through all twelve (TWELVE?!) pages... I kept seeing people talking about This girl's eyes as being one of the biggest points in declaring her not!Zimmy. On pages used as evidence of Zimmy's red eyes. But here, today, up close... Annie's eye color is not visible. In regards to Jack's goatee... At his age, I was shaving regularly. Granted,I didn't sport my facial hair until after high school, but I certainly started having to do something about it then. At his age, though, he has probably been cultivating that diminutive patch since roughly Faraway Morning. However, if you note his arms, yuo will see some details denoting some Hirsuite tendencies... If my own experience is a judge (I didn't call myself FuzzyOne for nothing) He's probably destined to be the typethat can go from baby's-butt-smooth to needing-to-trim-the-beard inside a month. About the eye thing: ZIMMY WOULD NEVER SMILE (without her spiky teeth showing). I think it's such a defining characteristic for Zimmy, since the few times we HAVE been able to see her eyes, the irises have always been depicted as red (even when drawn small; I agree that Tom often does that, but not with Zimmy). I will go find an example now. Edit: She is drawn MUCH smaller here, yet her eye color is depicted. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=739www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=740We'll agree to disagree on this part.

fwip:
That's kinda my point. In those same comics, we can see Annie's blue eyes, as easily as we can see Zimmy's red. But today, from similar distance, All we see is black. So, by that standard, I don't think eye color visibility is as big an indicator as people seem to think it is.
Personaly, I'm awaiting Monday, for confirmation. I kinda think it's Zimmy. I've been wrong about bigger things.

Whether Tom draws the irises seems kinda arbitrary at certain distances, and maybe changes over time. Heck one of Annie's defining points early on was a blue ring with thick radial lines in each eye, and often giant pupils..
Though to be fair this feels like a sort of big reveal or introduction thing, and Tom has a history of handling things intelligently, so I'm guessing he wouldn't just leave out something *that* unique to Zimmy.
Unless it changed off screen. /shakes fist at weekend cliffhangers

Haha, welcome back. I hope you will not take another hiatus from Tom's glorious comic. I have had to take Hiatuses™ from many, many things over the last few years due to many things - college, stress, work, creative stuff (comic creation included). With my story figured out, though, and no reason to fear ideas from GC getting in the way of creating new ideas of my own (yes, that is a REAL problem for me sometimes), I don't think I'll be taking any more Hiatuses™ from GC. Also, thanks for the re-welcome! O(^ ^)O

I'm going to play the long shot on this one, and guess that it isn't Zimmy - but it is Gamma. Or maybe the two underwent some sort of fusion... (Hey, it could happen.)

Once, you know, it's actually up. Still scripting, waiting to get tablet, ect. Long way to go still. Back on topic, I do want to put out my thoughts on who this might be if it isn't Zimmy. I'm pretty sure it isn't Gamma, as her skin color alone is way off to be her (among many other reasons). I also doubt it's Cookie Monster, not only because of the large age difference, but her nose doesn't match, either. Personally, if this isn't Zimmy (which is what I'm leaning towards, but we'll know soon), I'd say that it is most likely someone new.

Have you never had the urge to hide from a crush you made an awkward attempt at wooing and crashed and burned with? Jack was not a crush of Annie, seriously, I dunno what exactly Annie was up to in faraway morning, but she doesn't have a crush on him, plus they parted as friends sort off, and that was almost a year ago (in comic time; it was at the start of the year, now it's the end of the year) (also the answer is no, somehow I always feel more confident after I've been shot down, like cause I have nothing to lose anymore) In "Annie in the Forest" which pre-dates "Faraway Morning" when asked about a "boy back home" out of all the boys she knows she mentions Jack. Her interactions with him in "Faraway Morning" could actually be read as her taking the advice she got in the forest about how to hit on a boy. (Make him think you don't like him so he'll chase you) This is further supported by her offering to give him a kiss (which he turns down) before he heads off for the night. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=942 Annie is socially awkward, and I don't think she's inclined to be fully honest with herself or him, but there are definitely hints that she has feelings for Jack.

I think that was a nod to the speculation that Zimmy and Gamma are an item. It's not speculation. They've each explicitly declared their love for each other in previous strips. Zimmy, when speaking to Annie. Something about "I'd kill the whole world for her if she asked." ? Gamma when Zimmy thought she was Annie. "Why do you do this for Zim.. I mean me? Why do you help?" Hidden in the static of Gamma's reply is "Because I love you." They have absolutely declared their love for each other, yes. But as others have pointed out that doesn't necessarily mean that love is either romantic, or sexual. I happen to fall in the camp that thinks their love is romantic but realize that is still speculation at this point. All be it speculation with strong support from in comic evidence.

I start out thinking MAL was a new girl but after reading 13 pages of comments I think this is a somewhat fixed Zimmy. I say somewhat because I don't believe the fix will hold (thus the chapter name).
I've always had problems with Zimmy and Gammas relationship. I don't understand how an polish speaking Gamma would meet up with an english speaking Zimmy in the streets of Birmingham. My guess is they are the same person. Besides Zimmy ability to manifest her thoughts into reality, I think she has some form of multiple personality disorder. Zimmy probably grew up in a polish speaking household in Birmingham. At some point in her childhood her power began to present itself. This cause her to become isolated for the people of the town ( the faceless people) and perhaps her parents. At some point she broke (at about 1 year 102 days before the court). She formed 2 personalities, Zimmy the monster she thinks she is and Gamma the girl of her youth. Gamma is real because Zimmy believes her to be real. Zimmy was dominate and Gamma submissive.
The "fix" may have stared after helping Annie. Gamma became much more dominate insisting you "can't run away from what you fear". This may have lead to a "reunion".
Just some thoughts.

Who the fuck is this Scooby-doo douche-nozzle shit-kicker and what did they do with the real Jack?
I always knew Tom would crush my OTP... but this? This hurts. He might as well be wearing a bro-tank.
Instead of holding out hope that this is some elaborate hallucination I am going to buy two 40s of steel reserve- one to drink and the other to pour out for a dead homie. RIP Jack.

Does anyone notice that water (at least the stuff with ether) is good for Zimmy (it might even was the red away). Water is used for cooling stuff (such as a CPUwater cooler with a huge heatsink)may be just being near it is good enough. Also when are we getting through the rest of the latin alphabet or she could be another one of those latin letters. What about a homiculus. Could be just a red herring. Will Gamma get to learn English or Kat invent a translation device?

There's also strong support from the Word of Tom: Are Zimmy and Gamma a couple? -Yes they areWhich I guess you could interrupt to mean something other than what it would typical mean-- yes, they are a couple of people; yes, they are a couple of friends-- though at that point I feel that understanding their relationship as not being romantic is more speculation than seeing it as romantic would be. Also, reading though other answers from Tom about Zimmy has made me feel more certain that this isn't her-- but then, I don't want this to be her, so I think I'll keep assuming that it is to be safe.

I think it was zimmyzims who said that iris colors change and that red is not a natural color? Anyway, albinos can have red eyes. Considering that it's caused by a lack of pigment, I doubt that her eye color would change. It's before my time as well, but I read some of the old threads for fun a while ago. The longest thread was actually the one where Surma was revealed to have tricked Renard (at twelve pages). They were mainly discussing their loss of respect for Surma and her not being practically perfect in every possible way.
Page 802 (new number scheme) had 9 pages, and then the page where Annie it's revealed not to be human is 7 pages long. The chapter is on pages 24 and 23 of the forum btw.
Keep in mind that readership and forum membership has been growing the entire time, so the number of posts may not necessarily indicate the intensity of the reactions or discussions. I didn't say anything about intensity; I gave the only information I had.
