I'm all for character developpement, but not complete off-sceen resolution of a major character subplot and a complete 180° for no given reason. It's not like the trick of starting a chapter ahead and then flashing back to how we got there is totally without precedent. It's simply not in the same league, and none of those creates a rift that big in characterization. Besides, not only is Zimmy's subplot quite huge but it also ties into the overall plot, so how can it be resolved off-screen in less that a year ?

MarnathLove doesn't have to be romantic. I honestly think their relationship started too young and is too close to be romantic. Westermarck syndrome and all.

Maybe we'll find out Now, this seems sort of out of left-field, but do you think it's possible that the girl with Jack(?) is Gamma, not Zimmy? The first time we see Gamma it looks like she's wearing black lipstick (kinda gothy) and this character has those same bags under her eyes that Gamma always did from not sleeping enough. Other crazy theory- they are in fact Jack's parents (hence explaining the resemblance and age-difference) and Jack is attracted to Zimmy not because of the spider-things but because he's got an Oedipus complex.

By the way, the background in the top right panel is gorgeous, much like the foreground in the bottom right. Jack/Zimmy 4 life yo!!!!111!!!!

WHAT?
When I saw Jack and that girl who I assume is a new character, I was so shocked it looks like that panel just doesn't belong there. Zimmy and Gamma would never separate no matter what happened. It might just be Zimmy's body but another soul.

I'd disagree if it weren't for the remnant of the spider fang hair-do.

Really? The biggest reason I wasn't being serious about that theory was because "Carver" seems a little familiar to call someone you've never met, and there was no indication Jack's parents had ever met Antimony, but if they knew Annie's parents that provides the missing link! Since when was Zimmy sexually attracted to girls? I'm not disagreeing with you here. On the contrary, I want to point out that there are different kinds of love beyond physical attraction. No, for the same reasons as for Zimmy. But it totally works- see, she's not leaning on him because she's attracted to him but because she's dead-tired and is on the verge of collapse. I have a thought. What if it's both Gamma and Zimmy. We're not sure how their connection works. If Gamma's the only thing that keeps Zimmy together, what would happen if they somehow merged. Also also, if the "this is some kind of Zimmy-Gamma amalgamation" theory ends up being correct, can we henceforth refer to this 'ship as "Jammy"?

but there's also that chest that bursted in a few months. That does happen in real life. In fact my youngest daughter swears she went to bed a flat little girl and woke up the next morning needing a C cup. When she was a bit younger than these kids.

If Tom makes Anthony Carver the ship's captain, it would either confirm "it's a dream", or make it the greatest chapter ever. Por que no los dos? Esto es cierto. Buen punto. Wow, Monday is something I look to with something beyond apt dread for the first time in a while. I wonder if Tom has had any reaction to our inane babbles? If that is Zimmy, I keep imagining Monday being one large panel of Kat's and Annie's faces agape. Maybe, we'll get some answers to our bizarre babbles. As for Tom's reaction, I'm going with laughing diabolically. Ninjas and tornadoes!, this thread is long.

Someone brought up Tom's comment on this page on /r/Gunnerkrigg: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=469Unless Tom was joking there, or has changed some plot ideas he had then until now (completely possible, but he did say he has the overarching story planned out), I think ShutxUp still stands.

Also also, if the "this is some kind of Zimmy-Gamma amalgamation" theory ends up being correct, can we henceforth refer to this 'ship as "Jammy"? Not bad, but I vote for Zimma. And also in support of this theory, this page comes to mind. Edit: in case people ask, the symbol between the Greek letters Zeta and Gamma (Zimmy and Gamma's names) is the alchemical symbol for Bismuth.

Why did annie wanted to flee from Jack anyway? I thought everything was cool between them? Have you never had the urge to hide from a crush you made an awkward attempt at wooing and crashed and burned with? Jack was not a crush of Annie, seriously, I dunno what exactly Annie was up to in faraway morning, but she doesn't have a crush on him, plus they parted as friends sort off, and that was almost a year ago (in comic time; it was at the start of the year, now it's the end of the year) (also the answer is no, somehow I always feel more confident after I've been shot down, like cause I have nothing to lose anymore) you know, not to sound like a jerk or anything (but I probably do, cause I tend to unintentionally), but if I was Tom, I would be pretty offended by all the people thinking that new black haired pale girl is Zimmy (subsequently, if I does happen to be Zimmy somehow, I would be pretty embarrassed)

I don't know what her deal is with Jack, but she must have felt... something? To say that to him. Curiosity in the least.

SutXUp might have been relevant then, but people can change.

Edit: in case people ask, the symbol between the Greek letters Zeta and Gamma (Zimmy and Gamma's names) is the alchemical symbol for Bismuth. That I did not know and is interesting, cause Tom seems to like that stuff, it could imply they are very important to the court or future of the court or whatever (you know, I just mean that it could imply they are not just some substory, but relevant to the main plot)

SutXUp might have been relevant then, but people can change. I think it keeps coming back to how little time has passed between the chapter Annie was in the hospital, and now. It just seems unlikely that such a drastic change would happen in such little time, all "off-screen."

If it was Annie's idea to use the tactics she learned in the forest on Jack then that plan backfired. And she was warned. I actually did not doubt I was seeing Jack and Zimmy together when I saw today's comic, and still think it's her. I agree the change in appearance is remarkable, but how much of Zimmy's earlier look was her own projection; remember she can alter reality. Jack has talents we don't know about yet, according to Gamma, so maybe he now is her "heatsink". And while puberty makes most people slightly unstable, it may have the opposite effect on Zimmy. Two things bug me (and a lot of other people here so I gather): This happened in quite a short time. What happened to Gamma.

And realizing someone's not a bad guy doesn't make you want to kiss them after they confess they love/have feelings for someone else. Realizing that your standoffishness backfired, may. Like I said, I don't know Annie's deal with Jack. She probably doesn't know herself.

Reasons I'm pretty positive that isn't Zimmy: 1. Her body isn't shaped like that. It's of course possible for an adolescent to become that shapely in such a short amount of time, but, given that Zimmy doesn't take good care of herself and the weird coloration of her skin, I'd always kinda assumed that her frail frame was at least partly due to malnourishment. She's always seemed much smaller than other girls her age; I wouldn't be surprised if her growth was stunted. So it seems impossible to me that she would have grown that much. 2. The body language thing. 3. (The biggest one for me) Tom is a very good comic artist. If he had wanted to show us "Zimmy with some things different about her," I think he would have been able to do so without stirring up so much uncertainty. This character is supposed to have some similarities to Zimmy, but she's a different person.
I considered the possibility of this being a dream for a while, but I just don't think Annie would imagine Zimmy that way.
While there's obviously much more evidence to suggest that this dude Jack, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was actually his older brother or something.
But these are all just my opinions and guesses. Goodness knows Gunnerkrigg has surprised me before.

They kinda-sorta patched things up, but they first went through this rather traumatic experience, and then Annie made a fool of herself afterwards. Plus, Annie did seem a little skeezed out by Jack's attraction to Zimmy.

Nothing yet allows to conclude that she, if she's Zimmy, has lost the whole thing or even parts of it. To clarify, I meant Annie hasn't lost her fire elemental side, and I don't think Zimmy would lose something so fundamental to her character either. Sorry for my bad phrasing. I got you the first time, bro, and all I meant was that I don't think we have seen Zimmy having lost anything yet. Why does everybody conclude that Zimmy has somehow lost her thing - supposing that that girl is Zimmy.

Why does everybody conclude that Zimmy has somehow lost her thing - supposing that that girl is Zimmy. To be fair, if that IS Zimmy, then she looks far more put-together and relaxed around tons of other people than she usually does. As I theorized, if it is in fact Zimmy, whatever was wrong with her might not be gone, perhaps just more suppressed than it was previously. And finally, while Anitmony's part fire-elemental heritage seems to have mostly benefits and few downsides, Zimmy's....condition (for lack of a better word) appears to be almost entirely negative. Depending on what the process was, she might leap at the chance to get rid of it. Particularly if, for example, staying awake for long periods to keep Zimmy calm was having negative effects on Gamma's health.

Before my time on the forum as well. Probably correct. Still, 4 pages in 1.3 hours is impressive. It's before my time as well, but I read some of the old threads for fun a while ago. The longest thread was actually the one where Surma was revealed to have tricked Renard (at twelve pages). They were mainly discussing their loss of respect for Surma and her not being practically perfect in every possible way.
Page 802 (new number scheme) had 9 pages, and then the page where Annie it's revealed not to be human is 7 pages long. The chapter is on pages 24 and 23 of the forum btw.
Keep in mind that readership and forum membership has been growing the entire time, so the number of posts may not necessarily indicate the intensity of the reactions or discussions.
