If you were to put all the posts ever made on this forum in a jar and withdrew one at random, with replacement, your odds of picking one of mine would be 2.588015609% If you were to put all the threads ever made on this forum in a jar and withdrew one at random, with replacement, your odds of picking one of mine would be 3.738317757% Of course, now that I've made this post, that first number is no longer accurate. You just can't win...
It wouldn't have been so hard to take that into account, you know. (n+1)/N statistics, yo

I must ask, does this account for Tom's modified number of posts? I mean, you obviously did not include his 'millions', but did you add in the ones that he did post?

When you have admin permissions you can modify user post counts as well as all sorts of other nifty things, but only actual posts increase the total on the main page.

Heh, I had never noticed those figures before. I was wondering how you got your numbers

you're knot kidding ((oh well, looks like my skill at puns is out of the bag)) I staunchly resisted all of the urgings from my friends to include the letter sequence "knotty" in my domain or website name, knowing that there would be issues. I think Golden Knots is far more elegant and descriptive of what I do. Looks like you got this business all tied up.

Looks like you got this business all tied up. It is a rich mine of puns, certainly. :) I do something that people think is chain-mail, but I correct them and say that it is (k)not chain-mail, or, better yet, knotted chain-mail, to avoid the "Who's on first" issue. Prob'ly works better orally than it does in print. Oh well. If you see me at a science fiction convention you can probably talk me out of a ribbon for your badge. My ribbons read "Something knotty this way comes".

nobody else think this thread should just not exist on this forum? even if some of the stuff is worth promoting (goldenknots, whatbirdsknow)
seems pretty keen on keeping this a comics discussion only forum with the occasional general thread popping up. So it seems it should be de-railed to me. This is now a SPIDERMAN general thread.

There is a middle ground though-
Just ask TBeholder about multi-track drifting.

I went to Costa Rica a week ago. I'll be staying here for a year doing voluntary work, helping to preserve the sea turtles of the Pacific. Also I'm, naturally, learning Spanish while I'm at it.

Sounds awesome. How hard is it to learn a language on the spot? Being physically there and submersed in the culture as well as the language can make you pick it up pretty damn fast if you are attentive. I can't speak for Spanish, but I learned a hundred times more German in the first six weeks I spent in-country than I did in two years of classes. When you hear something everyday and you have to interact with people on at least a basic level, you will surprise yourself with how much you can understand in a relatively short time, even if you never spoke a word of it in your life before. Unfortunately, you also loose it pretty quick if you don't practice it after leaving.

I'm growing a child in my belly. I AM GROWING A CHILD. A little human being. That is awesome and surprisingly scary at the same time.

Turns out everyone on the project speaks excellent English whether they're Costa Rican or not, so the answer is that it is pretty damn hard this way. I have to make much more of an effort than expected, so it's slow going, but I have gotten better at least.

That sounds like it's be a huge blessing the first half of the first week, and a huge letdown the rest of the time.
