Now it just leaves the question: what does the makeup DO, exactley?
She definitely prefers to have it on, and it has something to do with etheric/magic/whatever.

His "Half-Life 3 release" trumpet? Haha, I guess there are two Saint Gabriels, huh? Sidetrack: End of the world? For me, it was told that it would be Rafael's horn. Guess where that came from.

My boring idea is that it's plain, boring makeup. But that's me also being boring. Anyway, someone did say that the makeup may serve as a ward to repel some sort of harm. The Ancient Egyptians wore them because they think it's magical and provided protection against evil and disease.

Yeah, I mean... it may just be purely symbolic; she puts a mental wall up around most people, and at the end of that chapter, she didn't end up putting on the makeup in front of Kat. D'aww.

The last time (a few years ago) I heard anything on the status of Tom's buffer, it was at about three months. That allows room for some feast-and-famine.

Two more things I noticed on reread of Materia, which starts right as Annie returns from the forest.
Annie presents a pair of boots to Kat, and offhandedly makes the claim that they will always fit her. Kat just calls it "crazy business" and lets it drop. I hope the boots show up again later.
Second, when Annie is visiting Red in the classroom, Annie mentions that Ysengrin taught her how to do her little human torch trick.
Hopefully we will see both of these in future Annie in the Forest installments.

She wore those in the winter-wallpaper, but I do hope they show up in the comic as well. I also hope we'll see the hat Kat gave Annie.

The third-from-last page (or next-to-next-to-last page) makes it less likely that Annie's asexual.
Pity, since I liked the notion of her having no interest in or inclination towards romance, but I suppose that such a change would have to get in, since one of the main threads of the story is her coming out of her shell. Sex and romance are different things for a lot of people - she could still be asexual with romantic feelings. So I'm sure I'm not the first to realize this, but the mask from Zimmy's visions is now very clearly Annie's makeup (shown to be given to her by Jones in AitF and partially in the vision). I know it was implied before, but now there is no doubt. I think you're right, though it seems like the mask and the make-up are both metaphors for something else - like the "shell" of emotionlessness she hides behind.

Finally got my copy of AitF - as in, it arrived more than a month ago, but I got it sent to my parents' place. DAMN YOU SIDDELL I WANT MORE!!! And yes, I think the makeup = mask = metaphor for guarded Annie is spot on. I guess for whatever reason I always took it for granted that Annie wears (wore really) makeup, when only few 12-13yr old girls would routinely wear makeup. Some do of course, but it's the minority? Another mystery to be explored I guess. I am surprised to some extent by just how immature Annie is when the Anwyn showed her hospitality. Then again I guess she never had to do any kind of housework having never lived in a house. Still, usually she seems more socially adept and less whiny. Also, it ends on a slight cliffhanger (not a big one of course).

I was kind of mentally cringing for Annie when she complained about having to sweep.
I WISH I had friends who would let me crash in exchange for just sweeping the floor. I'd probably have to paint the house, mow the lawn, fix the pressure washer, walk the dog and take his wife to a nice restaurant before I could so much as sleep on the couch.

Some people REALLY don't like houseguests.

A friend saw my copy and said Annie looks like Sailor Moon ... In that they're both female, and both comics? I guess the pointed chin...? Regardless, that is a piss-poor comparison.

i just thought what he said was cute because sailor moon, no need to read into it. Welcome to the forums, where we read into everything. Just trying to understand the comparison. It makes absolutely no sense to me, and I have a habit of being hostile towards lazy comparisons (judging the comparison itself, not your friend). And if you thought it was cute, maybe say that in your initial post (and maybe edit your posts, instead of double-posting). I had no idea in which context you were posting. uguuuuuuuuuu~

Does anyone know when he plans on putting it online?
Is he going to do both volumes at once or something?

He did not say. Some undetermined point in the future. There could be a part 3, after all.
Topatoco is restocking on part 1, so I doubt it will be any time soon.

Well that kinda sucks. Not in any position to buy it either Guess I'll just look around and avoid all the strangely tantalizing spoiler tags in the meantime..
