I'm listening to a lot of Battle Circus right now, I can see some GC tones in some of the instrumental stuff and some of the lyrics of the other stuff. Mostly because when we saw The Court from Kat's anti-grav bike my "DIRTY POST-APOCALYPTIC TOWN!" sensors went off. This stuff has ze apocalypse.

I got this back when it was first posted, and I've been continuing it as best I can with the songs in my own collection. Here's what I have so far: S1:Come Alive-Foo Fighters Power Station:Boulevard of Broken Dreams-Green Day Coyote Stories:Old Coyote-The Weepies But when I came to Blinking, I found three songs that seem to come from three different, but equally valid viewpoints. In all three, the songs are 'speaking' about Antimony. Jeanne: Unbound-Robbie Robertson I am lost I am lost Has anybody seen me? I am lost. Oh, nothing is forgotten Only left behind Wherever I am She leads me down Unbound Muut(or Mort, depending on how you look at it): Mine's Not a High Horse-The Shins After that confrontation You left me wringing my cold hands We shared some information We might not recover from And I watch your convictions Melt like ice cubes in an ocean You were so poorly cast as a malcontent Mort: Cold Cold Heart-Norah Jones I've tried so hard my dear to show That you're my every dream Yet you're afraid each thing I do Is just some evil scheme A memory from your lonesome past Keeps us so far apart Why can't I free your doubtful mind And melt your cold cold heart Though, I have to admit that last one casts Mort as a hopeless romantic... And hasn't got much in the way of nice things to say about Annie. In all, i'm not sure I can choose just one. Possibly Unbound, since it has more to do with the overall story, and sounds more in line with the general feel of GK.

I got this back when it was first posted, and I've been continuing it as best I can with the songs in my own collection. Cool. I've been doing the same thing; there's no reason there can't be multiple unofficial soundtracks. If you're trying to follow my example, I wasn't exactly following the one-song-per-chapter rule very closely myself. For example: "Parlor Inventor" and "Thicker" were both about chapter 5: the former representing Kat and her Science-Fair-winning technical wizardry, and the latter representing Zimmy and Gamma. And while "Don't Go in the Woods" represented ch 7 and "Green Fairy" represented ch 8, "Rivers of Russia" represented both chapters. And there were two songs ("Something of an End" and "Jacksie") which weren't supposed to stand for any chapter, but I chose them because they fit the mood and their lyrics made me think of Surma. And I didn't have any song about ch 13 or Aly (or rather, I had a song about ch 13, but it got left out because it was far too quiet to be played alongside any of the other songs). And then I retroactively decided that the ending track ("Invincible") was also the song about ch 10. In summary: Do what you want. One song per chapter need not be a binding rule.

Every time I hear 'Little Shadow' by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs I think of GC, probably just because of the name but I still reckon it could go well in a Gunnerkrigg Court film or whatever. The acoustic version, that is, although the acoustic Hysteric would go ever better.

Think back to A Week For Kat. It's the first time we meet Aly, Kat's instantly smitten, she watches him walk off in slo-mo, and this starts playing. It would be amazing!

I've got to say that "Annan Water" off the Decemberist's new album really brings back memories of the old court, and not just in the title. www.youtube.com/watch?v=thaMWccDbu0&fmt=18The song is about a woman who was kidnaped and taken to the other shore of the Annan River. Her lover makes a deal to offer his life if the river will let him pass to rescue her. If you think about it in GC terms, imagine that the woman in the song is Jeanne's ghost. She's trapped on the other side, and the man who loved her, no longer living, left behind the tic-tocs who while still helpless to save her save someone, Antimony, from her fate. Great song either way!

I've got to say that "Annan Water" off the Decemberist's new album really brings back memories of the old court, and not just in the title. Jumping off that, the whole album ("Hazards of Love") has a bit of a Gillitie forest feel. It's a story album, and it's about this girl Margaret who's riding in the woods at dusk and finds this wounded fawn. She stops and helps it, and it turns into a man. They fall in love. She goes back home, but discovers she's pregnant, and returns to the woods to find William, aka fawn-boy. His mother is Queen of the Forest and is angry when she discovers their love, but agrees to let them spend one last night together if William returns to the forest and never sees Margaret again. However, in the middle of the night, the Rake abducts Margaret and, with the help of the Queen, takes her across the Annan Water (!). Then comes "Annan Water", which Bearer has explained. The Rake is killed by the ghosts of his children (side plot - he murdered them) and William and Margaret are reunited. As they cross the river again, though, their boat starts sinking. They agree to marry while drowning and thereafter wander the shores of the Annan Water together, forever, as ghosts. playlist: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvw1CVOSmik&feature=PlayList&p=53B5376C171597FF&index=0I found this album from an "Annan Water" link from this forum, and it's really good. The style of the music fits GC too, I think.

I think it was also me who posted that first link, Clementine haha. The Decemberists really are a great band though. If you like Hazards of Love, then certainly take a listen to some of there other stuff. "Picaresque," "castaways and Cutouts," and "the Crane Wife" are all also very good albums. "The Tain" is a 20 minute ballad about the Irish folk tale of Cuchulain.

And if you're feeling really old school Colin Meloy, I quite like some of Tarkio's stuff too although it's less story focussed and more basic than the Decemberists
I associate Crow on the Cradle with Annie, mostly the Show of Hands version

Hey, what's all this? Part 2: Electric Boogaloo (Apparently 8tracks.com auto-shuffles the songs in playlists. Le sigh.) This one started off rather different from my previous mix, but sort of grew closer as I refined it. There's a zip file here. EDIT: Updated and reuploaded the zip. (For those who are wondering, Part 1 is linked on the first page of this thread.)

My brother gave me some albums by the Finnish folk-metal band Korpiklaani (who are awesome). Many of their instrumental tracks would make good themes for Gillitie. Some of their songs with lyrics, too, considering the "Spirit of the Forest" theme they've got in a lot of songs.

From the Scottish band Delgados comes the song Come Undone; might be a hit for a few of the characters. I think of Antimony or Gemma the most for this one. Maybe even Surma as we learn more about her... www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_tBJoajOq0So she said Far enough Far enough is here Homeward bound Pieces found Rest is all you need
Saw a girl She was taking a walk She was looking round for someone else She was hiding from everything Even scared of her own reflection
This is how it feels to drown This is how we come undone
When you just can't remember How you came by the memories that you have These are days that go on too long These are days that you really don't want to last

The Degados are so good. I only have Hate though. I really need to branch into more of their albums. Their music fits GKC so well, I can't believe I never saw it before. I reckon Woke From Dreaming would be perfect for the end of the Power Station chapter, so that cymbal clash at about 2.51 in the above video lines up with Gamma touching fake Kat and fK exploding. I think I'll spend this evening making that...

So, would anyone else be interested in a GC Fans internet "radio station"? (Not quite the word I'm looking for, but...) Set up a shared account on Grooveshark (or a similar site, if anyone has any suggestions for something better), so everyone can add songs. I like Grooveshark because there's a lot of songs already on there, and you can upload files from your computer so others can hear. And you can make and save playlists. Xera: Lliendes. Some kind of electronica/Celtic hybrid. EDIT: After further listens, I've come to the conclusion that "Valdescabres" and "Ñubes" sound the most Gunnerkrigg-ish. Hey, they put out a new album!

I think I've toyed with the idea of End of October by David Crowder*Band would make for a very nice atmospheric music for the Court. Possibly something from their Sunsets and Sushi album as well, but I haven't listened to it recently enough to say for sure...

Er, so are the Annan Waters one of those integrated historical source thingies (like the Black Dogs of the British Isles or Muut or Coyote)? Or is the song an incredible coincidence?
EDIT: Never mind, Wikipedia'd it.

This seems like an apropos theme song for the power station (or even the court in general).
