Great. We are already wondering what Jones is, now we have to wait at least for Monday to learn what is the other part of Annie. At least allows for a lot of speculation.
For my money, I am sticking with the phoenix theory.

That suggests that Annie and Surma might be inspired by a mythical creature. *searches*

Christmas came twice this year.... we might ACTUALLY get answers. We already have half of one:
ANNIE ISN'T HUMAN!
My only fear is that Jones will for some reason jump in and shut Coyote up before he reveals what Annie is.
Also, there has been a panel in the last three pages where Coyote isn't smiling. It feels that he is being uncharacteristically serious. I wonder if Jones' presence is the cause or if it is the topic of discourse: Annie (or things relating to her).

This must be the equivalent of Coyote's Best Day Ever.

I'm just so eager to see what will happen next all the time with this comic lately. Tom keeps throwing us some great info week after week. I was so surprised, I did not expect that at all.

"Not exactly human" as in halfbreed?
Did Rey attack Annie because, for a moment in his pain and grief, he did blame her for Surma's death?

I'd stare too, except Coyote is staring back in a very creepy way... His eyes are turning strangely green... I think I should stop before he turns into something terrible. In other news, that phoenix theory is looking quite interesting...

Dang, so many things Antimony is getting to know she might've preferred knowing sooner....I can't get use to a non-smiling Coyote. And what is with that head lean/rub he is doing to Jones?
I'd eagerly wait for more revelations if not for the pessimist inside saying it will get cut sort.

You know... The name Surma does appear in Mythology of Finland.
Surma is a character similar to Cerberus in the Finnish mythology of Kalevala. Surma is a terrible beast, embodies sudden, violent death and guards the gates of the Underworld or Tuonela to prevent escape. It is often described as being a large dog with a snake-tail and can turn you into stone (with a stare). An often-used Finnish metaphor is surman suuhun "into Surma's mouth", as if the victim was mauled to death by Surma.
Surma also means kill, or specifically a kill and the verb surmata, to kill or to slay, is derived from it.

I went on wikipedia to search for mythical creatures associated with fire, and other than the phoenix, the Lampads seemed like an interesting possibilty. [EDIT: But phoenix makes sense because of the whole rebirth thing.] While I was at it, I looked up mythical creatures associated with eyes. One of the ones I found was Lamia. "Lamia was cursed with the inability to close her eyes so that she would always obsess over the image of her dead children."
However, a more plausible creature would be the Lynx. "The Lynx is an elusive, ghost-like animal that sees without being seen. Often called "the keeper of secrets of the forest"..." "Just because the lynx knows secrets does not mean it wishes to share them."
[EDITAGAIN The Lynx is known as the "keeper of the secrets of the forest" but its gaze is also associated with those dedicated to science, which would explain Jones's neutrality. Also this is not the thread to be talking about Jones, sorry, I just think this is interesting ^^][EDIT ONE MORE TIME I'm moving this, it's in the wrong place]

Annie is still partly human. Not exactly human =! Definitely partly human. At most it could mean 'maybe partly human'. Edit: And even that's unlikely, based on how that figure of speech tends to be used. Edit2: Also I bet all you people trying to pick the mythological creature most resembling Antimony are gonna be disappointed, as she's obviously a robot, like Jones

What confuses me is if she isn't human, why does she still look human in the aether? That's the only thing spoiling the phoenix theory for me really.

This does raise a few questions for me. The principle one being: Why would seeing her apart from her mother would mean that she's dead? That implies that, unlike humans, she either can't or won't spend more than a short time away from her mother. It's something that has been bugging me since the hospital scenes: Why did she live in the hospital? For most people, the children would live at home and visit the hospital.
