Jones related wild speculation: I thought it was odd that Randy would be smitten by Jones who appears to be much younger than he is. Assuming Jones was there when Randy was a student, and assuming she was somehow the same as she is today, (no younger or older), it makes a bit more sense if Randy acquired a schoolboy crush on Jones and never got over it. That sort of makes him about ten times creepier. Come to think of it, it makes Jones' reciprocation pretty creepy as well. If Jones happened to be Galatea (a creation/avatar of Venus) it would be reasonable for most males to be attracted to her. On the other hand, a male who disliked things etheric might have a natural impulse to dislike, or at least disregard, Jones; perhaps that was a wedge issue with Eggers and Surma and something in common between Surma and Anthony. It would also be reasonable for Jones to become accustomed to the attention over the centuries and not be put off by it. Besides, while she's shown affection to some males she's probably known since they were children we've yet to see Jones romantically reciprocate.

I'm not sure what to make of "You know I can take her if I wish." A threatening line like that sounds a bit out of character from the Jones we know so far.

One person's threat is another person's statement of fact.

I think its vague by design. It could mean, "You know I am allowed to take her if I wish" referring to some agreed list of rules that Coyote may or may not adhere to.
It could mean, "I can take her and you will be unable to stop me" meaning she can move very fast like she did in the sword fight with Eglamore and just take Annie before anyone can respond.
I'm not sure but I think its the first one. I think she knows the rules and how to play them.

I think its vague by design. I absolutely agree. However I think that Jones is someone who chooses her words very carefully. And if she chose those ambiguous words deliberately, it implies that she actually might have intended them as a hidden threat. Which, again, would be out of character. Maybe I'm just interpreting too much into this.

moving some Jonesy speculations from the 820 thread I looked up mythical creatures associated with eyes. One of the ones I found was Lamia. "Lamia was cursed with the inability to close her eyes so that she would always obsess over the image of her dead children." However, a more plausible creature would be the Lynx. The Lynx is known as the "keeper of the secrets of the forest" but its gaze is also associated with those dedicated to science, which would explain Jones's neutrality. Neither of these explain why she knows ancient Egyptian, though.

I think this is the time Jones has earned a forum thread of her own (there isn't one yet that I missed, is there?). So, what is it we know of her as a fact, and what do we assume? [...] * She appears to be highly resistant to physical harm. She is able to punch through a solid concrete wall, apparently without hurting herself ( 727). It is unsure how hard Eglamore's sword hit her face, however it did not leave the slightest mark ( 380). I agree with you on the wall, but my interpretation of the sword fight is that she somehow warped space-time to make it easier to deflect and capture the sword. She could have even made the sword has flexible as rubber for a short period? Some/all of those differences could be down to the fact that she's an adult and, consequently, heavier anyway. We've not seen anything that compares her weight with that of an adult. You could be right but it could be Tom trying to mis-direct us.

So, what is it we know of her as a fact, and what do we assume? <snip> * She always dresses the same way. There are variations in color, number of pockets, length of the sleeves or style of the collar, but overall she seems to possess only one type of dress. She seems to prefer muted colors, the only exception to this is a bright pink neck scarf Assumption: She is unfamiliar with human clothing. <snip> Any of my assumptions that can be disproven? I'd say this one's busted. Her latest look implies she's well acquainted with human clothing, which makes sense if she's been observing humans for a long time.

Others have challanged that assumption before, and I'm (reluctantly) beginning to doubt it myself. It still is the same basic style (formal shirt, tube-shaped skirt, muted colors), but as was pointed out before, that might be just her style.

coyote's name for Annie, Fire head girl. The name always goes with the nature of an individual's existance. Looking at annie's existance within the ether and the bridge incident recently, it makes me wonder what Jones will look like from the ether given Coyote's name for her, "wandering eye"

This is potentially just wild spec, but it could also mean that there has been a similar situation like this in the past; perhaps with Surma?

The question that sears in my mind right now is.... Is Jones still falling under rule 34?

I still believe its not so much a threat as Jones stating a known rule: "I am allowed to take her if I wish" as in the Court has the stronger claim on Annie and her kind.

Well, I'm sure Jones has been called by that name by some of the female attendants at the Court, given her tendencies to get men smitten with her.

One thing I noticed: in #817, Coyote says to jones: Is that the latest name you've stolen "Stolen" implies that the name belonged to someone else before Jones took it, i.e. it's not just an alias, but more a case of identity theft. Given that we already have one character who can steal people's bodies, is it possible that the body of Jones is not her own? Maybe Wandering Eye (whatever that is) has possessed a woman named Jones or something like that. Edit: Wow, flash! In #277 there's this little bit: Coyote, speaking about Muut, says "Hell of a poker face". This is immediately followed by a close-up of Jones, who (everyone must admit) has the best poker face in the world. So, this thought strikes me: maybe the reason why Jones has to stay neutral is that she's a guide. She can't overtly interfere because they're not supposed to (although they can apparently bend the rules a bit). Not sure how this jives with the "I could take her if I wanted" comment, though.

I was thinking Jones might be a guide of some sort, but she "steals" names... Maybe the names..of the passed? But it seemed more stealing like what Renard does (did? attempted to do?... feh.) Hmmm, rereading a few pages, it seems that the people from the forest have the same predicament as Jones: lack of style. She is possibly FROM the woods? Maybe how she's so close to coyote, other than court relations (prescribed relations, if you will). That might be why coyote's heckling her-- old friends. If you ignore the fact that he heckles everybody.

And she does seem to the rather fond of commenting on Annie's Father. She claims that (in the first link) she's only trying to rile Annie's feathers (but it's for a purpose!), which might or might not be true. And she was asked by coyote in the second link. But still. It's pattern-y. She is also a universal teacher of sorts? This implies that if she did know how to use the blinker stone, she would be teaching Annie. Maybe Annie's mother and/or father wanted Jones to teach Annie? Godmother/father? Blood related, possibly? Close friends? These are all long shots, though.

MAYBE Annie's father and Jones were related? They're both... deadpan? This is... not a safe assumption.
Jones might be related to something heavy, like stones? Annie is related to fire, maybe Jones is part Earth.

Maybe her clothing is just her trying to look professional? Maybe the pink scarf was a gift?

I'm not sure how flawed this is, but a passing thought...
But Coyote cast an eye so high once it became a star yes? What if it didnt stay there? Whatgoes up must come down might apply in every way, we've already seen etheric energy doesnt exactly play by the laws of physics. What if it was granted individuality by the change in it's nature, and therefore kept the power that Coyote himself lost when he gave it to Reynard?
Also would explain why she doesn't shy from threatening Coyote.
Just a thought.

Her latest look implies she's well acquainted with human clothing, which makes sense if she's been observing humans for a long time. And now we also, in regard to some early speculation, have Jones directly not-answering a direct question. Although the direct question contains some assumptions; if those assumptions are (in Jones' view) false, the question may not be answerable.

Quick question; Does Jones not have a first name at all? It's never been alluded to, and even though she refers to other teachers by their first names, they call her Jones (or Jo). Also, on her office door, it just says Ms. Jones, as compared to Mr. J. Eglamore. If she was born a human(ish), or stole the body that she's in, wouldn't it have come with a full name?

I've speculated this elsewhere but Hathor also has the eye of Ra and is associated with Aphrodite.

But since Coyote is a trickster, this information is not very valuable: we do not know how to interpret his words correctly.
