I really want to know when Paz and Annie are going to get together and realize they've both seen the mecha-goddess (although that assumes a lot about Paz's awareness of the Jeanne situation). And now that I'm doing a whole-comic re-read, I'm realizing that Kat's mecha-goddess form has figured into the finales of two books now. So looking forward to returning to that plotline....

I’m just realizing for the first time how international the court was when it was formed based off of the names of the people involved (Jeanne, Diego, Steadman seem to come from three countries and three language traditions).

I forgot Bob and Marcia were a human/non-human couple, and they make it work out, having found a niche role in the court. There may be hope yet for our current couple!

And moments later, Robot somehow manages to sweat and blush...

By the way, looking up this page I realized for the first time that Annie's hair is all messed up after her hasty escape from the Robot's domain.

Huh, another thing I never realized until now: When Jones explains who Diego and Sir Young are, while inside the simulation, the robots Diego used to represent them both in the puppet show (S1 and Bullbot) are depicted together with them.

I am on a rereading spree!
When exploring the old workshop with the robot tomb, Kat has a "Joe Cool" hoodie. This is actually the chapter's only page one can read the text, because in all others where one sees Kat from behind, she is either not wearing the hoodie or the text is covered by her backpack.

I always assumed it was Annie because of her haircut, but that's an awesome observation!

I mean, circles and multi-pointed stars are pretty old motifs in magic. Okay, not an exact replica: The symbols are different, the center is not traced and the inner circle is not written but you get the idea. As for Alphonse's seal, it could be a coincidence but because of this tribute to FMA I'm willing to believe it's not. Headcanon: Jenny's powers doesn't need her to "draw magic circles" but her believing so acts as a catalyst and enhance her abilities. Also she's an anime dork

Also she's an anime dork Restricting magic to when you are deliberately, consciously doing a magical ritual has certain advantages. I read a story involving a very powerful, but mostly untrained, mage who discovered that he didn't need all that stuff... then as he was walking along one morning he got cold and imagined how nice it would be to sit in front of a fire, and in consequence he spent the next hour figuring out how to put out a fire... a grass fire, in a prairie.

Kat says she does not believe in magic when asked by her mother, but she has no problem immediately accepting a ghost as real.

Rereading Memories of the Worthless, slowly with page threads: It never occurred to me that when Coyote says "temper your rage" that is could be taken to mean two ways, either temper as in "dampen" (the one I always thought he meant), or temper as in the process of making a material stronger, like tempered glass or steel sword. This was speculated on extensively in the page thread. But upon further reflection, it occurs to me that he might have meant "dampen". Consider this: Ys loved Coyote, and pledged from the beginning that if he ever got Coyote's strength, he would make the humans pay. If Coyote gave Ys his strength, Ys would immediately tear through the court as much as possible, no holds barred. But Coyote loves humans and it would probably be against his interest to do that. Not to mention, any witnesses to the event would be killed immediately. But consider that Coyote wanted to experience death. He wanted Ys to attack him and kill him. All of the time he spent with Annie, where Annie asked him repeatedly why he stays with Coyote... Not only was that dampening Ys's hatred of humans, but raising his hate of Coyote. And it meant that there could be human witnesses to Ys's gift without them getting killed in the process. It might have also contributed to the reason why Loup backed off attacking the court so easily when the shield bubble appeared. ...Maybe these ramblings should have went into Wild Spec... but this all occurred to me in a flash and I wasn't about to necro or derail a page thread for it.

I suppose her problem really is just that phenomena like ghosts and blinker stones should be considered explainable by science, not that they aren't "real". Rereading that chapter, I notice that, after it's clear what's going on with the blinker stone, Kat's actually very accepting of the " matter transference", and she's even the one to eagerly ask if " anyone can use those things". Now I'm wondering if she has any pet theories about the science behind Mort. "Extradimensional neuro-psychic impressions" or something like that...

Why are you saying a bunch of latin words that are vaguely related to what's going on on the pages? I'm sure I could find some page with the characters enjoying life and link to it saying "Carpe Diem", or write "Memento Mori" while linking the reveal that Annie will die after giving birth, but it wouldn't be in any way relevant to the purpose of this thread.

Sorry about that! I forgot to mention the source of its coolness! I edited the original post for clarification. It's a quote that appears in the first ever Treatise of Gunnerkrigg Court at the end of chapter 7 (first book). It comes from an alchemy book called Mutus Liber (mute book, supposedly a book without words). Fun fact: the Mutus Liber can't be considered a mute book because it has these words in it, and as far as I remember this is the only Treatise page with words in it! Cool fact: The original text reads "Ora, lege, lege, lege, relege, labora et invenies" and I found it weird at first but didn't think much about it. Then years later I found that the number of words Tom used fit neatly into Kat's insight on Diego's code since we first see that she asked the code to when she finally installs the bypass (I should have linked "Et Invenies" to a single page but in the next page the golem asks "The Tomb, Where Is It?" and Invenies, you shall find, kinda fit here too)

I went on an archive binge for this thread. I made the following discovery: Shadow 2 startles a spider (complete with a tiny speech bubble containing only an exclamation mark) when communicating for the first time with Annie. What makes this more interesting is the fact, that spiders seem to be the only regular (not test subject) animals we have ever seen or heard of in the Court (although there must be something the spiders eat). It occasionally popped up in dialogue as well. There are no rats in the Court, only plenty of spiders. pyradonis , it appears you discovered something twice. Which happens to the best of us, don't get me wrong.
