Nothing like a good angry argument to break the awkward silence! ...Yay? Seriously though, at least with Donny interrogating him we might get some answers. Maybe.

Alright Donny, you've started things up, now don't you let him wriggle out of giving an answer!

It's a good thing Anja and Donnie can communicate telepathically while frowning at one another, otherwise salvaging the evening might not be an option.
Actually, you know what, on second thought I think salvaging the evening might be a lost cause at this point.
But on a more serious note, I'm liking Anja more and more. She's giving off the impression that she's really trying to protect Annie here, while still being disappointed. THAT'S the kind of parent Annie needs. Any chance we can redo Goodykrigg Court with Annie being the one to get adopted instead of Kat?

That's "the look" -- couples learn that fairly quickly. The final panel made my day (night). I do think that Anthony will respond to Donnie, but I don't know how forthright he will be in front of the others. (Since it would be him being uncomfortable, not Annie.)

Donny is my favorite character. I never knew until this exact moment but now I can't believe I never noticed.

I just hope Donny puts the proverbial thumbscrews on him and doesn't let him get away with some wishy-washy excuses. It's high time for Tony to explain himself.

Donald, you rawk! Finally, someone with the standing and willingness to - hopefully - tell Anthony that his hateful abuse isn't going to fly. And yes, Anthony's actions and speech count as hate in my view, even if (and it's an if) he doesn't 'feel' or 'intend' them that way because he is too damaged and/or clueless, or indeed even if he truly and deeply believes that everything he does is solely for Antimony's good. The hate is in the actions and the harm they cause, not his warped understanding or beliefs. (I've been thinking in this regard about the demon Screwtape's description of one human in C.S. Lewis's book The Screwtape Letters: "She's the sort of woman who lives for others - you can tell the others by their hunted expression.")

I don't think we'll get any meaningful answer from the man, but I am soooooo glad that someone actually bothered to ASK.

"Hard to take a compliment from someone you dislike."
Oh, you can. That is not the problem. At the very least Kat would be indifferent. The problem here is that the compliment comes explicitly at the expense of Annie.
Fully agreed.

Donald follows the Roosevelt maxim of speaking softly, and carrying a damn big stick.

Heavens no! Fishy refers to another thread on this forum where someone thought the last chapter was to emotionally heavy and edited it so that it had a ridiculously more happy story.

Dum dee dum dee! Go on man, make our day! Anthony is of course not going to give a meaningful answer and probably get up to leave and take Annie with him.
Or
"Oh Donald! I am so glad you finally asked! I was kidnapped by space fairies who put a strong geas on me! I would be forced to be a dick until the 2D asked me what happened to me! Oh you saved me Donald! Now I can finally be the father I was meant to be to my darling daughter!"
Confetti! A brass band playing! Fireworks!

Ok so this is the first time we have seen Tony interacting with another adult. He can't be as condescending and manipulative of Donald and Anja as he is of Annie (and to a certain extent Kat, he is at least trying to manipulate her by praising her skills, without realising he is just making her more angry). Hopefully Donald will at the very least give him a dressing down for abandoning Annie for 2+ years, and hopefully for how he has treated Annie since he has returned. Also we might finally hear some of Tony's explanation...
(And if Tony refuses to cooperate, we have Eglamore hiding in the kitchen carrying a big stick)

Straight to the point. Good going Donny.
I personally am more partial to the American colloquialism, "Da *@!$ you been,?"

The problem here is that the compliment comes explicitly at the expense of Annie. At this point, he isn't so much complementing Kat as he's indirectly insulting Annie. It looks like even D. isn't willing to listen to it any more.

(And if Tony refuses to cooperate, we have Eglamore hiding in the kitchen carrying a big stick) He doesn't even have to be in the kitchen. If he can get to the forest in seconds, you'd better believe he could get to the Donlan's dining room faster than Coyote can laugh! To be fair though, he probably is just lurking behind a nearby door listening in to the conversation with a deep scowl.

About time! Don't you let him wriggle out of this one, Donald!
Kat doesn't look too happy about being praised by Anthony. I would say the fuse got lit in the last page and it's set to blow in 3, 2...
And poor Annie hasn't looked up from her plate even once.

Surprise one: It's Tony who tries to break the ice. Surprise two: It doesn't work (okay, I lied. That's no surprise).
