Oh man, Annie's faces. And the image of Zimmy she conjures up? Priceless. I'm still laughing.
I must be the only one that kinda hopes he's serious. He might be able to figure out a way to actually help Zimmy, which is something nobody but Gamma seems interested in doing. Of course, I've long believed that Zimmy and Gamma are more than friends, so he's gonna get shut down hard in the romance department.

Hahahaha. "Can't tell if serious, or just trolling." If serious, well... you might have some trouble there Jack .

If Jack is being serious, I don't see why this should be a problem. Yeah it's gonna be hard to get Zimmy to open up to him, but Zimmy seems to tolerate Annie a lot more than anyone else these days. She's even been relatively friendly (for her). So it's not impossible. I think it would be good for Zimmy to be able to open up to a boy.
Also, I don't understand why Gamma would be an impediment here. Zimmy's the one who has historically been the jealous, possessive one. I think Gamma would be thrilled to see Zimmy making new friends and being happy. Also, as for Zimmy and Gamma being "more than just friends" it's technically true, but not in the way everyone seems to be guessing (hoping?). Zimmy relies intimately on Gamma for her own mental stability every day. Both of them have stated that they love the other, and it seems only because they rely on each other. Gamma maybe feels sorry for Zimmy and wants to take care of her. There's also the case that Zimmy's psychic link with Gamma is the only (known) method which Gamma can communicate with others, albeit not a very reliable one. Still, Zimmy is the only person she can communicate with without the help of a translator. Love != "Relationship".

I think Jack might be serious here. Zimmy is actually quite good looking when she's out in the rain, and her outlook isn't that bad, for someone who lives in her own personal hell. Look at the last panel here so see what I mean. www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=738

Wow, Jack picked the one girl in the comic that's probably even more emotionally unavailable than Antimony.
It's just that Jack will have to settle for being one among those billions that Zimmy would be willing to murder (and then herself) if Gamma ever asked her to. Even polyamorous relationships require a little bit more regard for your partners' wellbeing than that.
Am pretty sure they're in love with each other as romantically as any two persons can be with each other. I'm not one of those people who sees homosexuality everywhere, but when you declare that you'd kill the whole world and then yourself if person X asks it of you, then you don't just love X as a mere friend or as mere family. You're darkly-romantically obsessed with them.

..guys, I'm not sure I think he's trollin'. I dunno, his happiness in panel 1, the speech in panel 4, the 'haha' in panel 5 - to me that reads more than someone admitting something they realize is pretty strange (being in love with Zimmy) than joking. Surely, if he was trying to pull her leg he'd be more sarcastic seriousface.
(Tom's going to prove some of us very wrong on Monday I think - might as well pick a side)

This has gone far too teenagery for me. I'd say it's only in self defense. In a "you say you don't like me so I say I like someone better anyway" manner. Yup.

Nice left hook there, man. Not related: ... There's also the case that Zimmy's psychic link with Gamma is the only (known) method which Gamma can communicate with others, albeit not a very reliable one. Still, Zimmy is the only person she can communicate with without the help of a translator... Annie speaks polish, they were seen talking with each other incomic (telepathically too). ED: dang, second half ain't true. Stupid brackets.

Even polyamorous relationships require a little bit more regard for your partners' wellbeing than that. Well, we'd be working on the assumption that eventually Jack could be worked into her little world of "safe people." Am pretty sure they're in love with each other as romantically as any two persons can be with each other. I'm not one of those people who sees homosexuality everywhere, but when you declare that you'd kill the whole world and then yourself if person X asks it of you, then you don't just love X as a mere friend or as mere family. You're darkly-romantically obsessed with them. I don't think so. You could just as easily love a brother or sister and in this case, closest friend, so much that you'd kill for them. Assuming you have that kind of murderous aspect, of course, but the point is beside that. Also remember that Gamma literally keeps Zimmy sane, despite the fact that Gamma is not required to do anything for her. Potentially, Gamma keeps Zimmy alive as well. Anyone who does that for ME on a day-to-day basis would be worthy of my love, but not necessarily romantically. Annie speaks polish, they were seen talking with each other incomic (telepathically too). Annie learned conversational Polish from a psychopomp. That's a far cry from fluency. Zimmy and Gamma can communicate directly into each other's minds.

While I hadn't seen this coming, I thought it made sense. In the period between "Power Station" and "Spring-Heeled" (including "Spring-Heeled" itself), Jack had only been approaching Annie (whenever he did) to find Zimmy; Zimmy was the one he was really obsessed with (even if that might have been more the spider seeking her than Jack himself). And it was Zimmy, not Annie, who got rid of the spider that had possessed him. Zimmy's "earned" Jack; Annie hasn't.
Of course, since Zimmy doesn't care about anyone other than Gamma, I don't think that Jack has any hopes with her, but people frequently pursue unattainable goals.

From what im reading, he's been unsure wether he likes Annie or Zimmy, so, yeah... I dunno Sarcasm is difficult to parse through written text but I think we can be fairly sure at this point that Jack is in no way serious about having any sort of thing for Zimmy. Annie tried to put a dent in Jack's ego with her statement last page. Jack, however, is far too savvy to let this work and turned her jab back on her tenfold by letting her think that her words had inadvertently caused him to fall for someone else. Now Annie will be forced to either let him go after another girl, or admit that she was lying and that she actually does like him. Jack is a master of teenage cunning. OK, let's reflect here for a moment... I get razzed even on 4chan for being an AnniexKat shipper. But the above reasoning? That's a stretch. A lot of you guys (you AnniexJack people), last page, were so sure that Annie was reverse-flirting with Jack. But look at her expressions on this page. She is just confused, nothing more. I think we think Tom is trolling us because we read too much into each page. It's merely a side effect of the 1-page-at-a-time format.

I'm... not even sure what to think about this. I mean, Zimmy? Zimmy? That's actually pretty funny to think about. Heck, he could be serious. even worse, it could actually work out.I mean, if the dude's been inside her head, and survived, he might have a chance. But uh.... let's save speculation for when we know more. Oh right, I forgot what forum I'm in.

I hereby dub this page "Return of ShutxUp."
Oh, gods, the sheer amount of twists and headaches the last few pages have wreaked upon shippers is AWESOME. My grin is so huge right now, I'm thinking of forming a club with Coyote.

I remember Zimmy saying something about Jack having fought back against the spider's control. I suspect that seeking out Zimmy was part of that fight back.

"This is the best comic on the internet"
If you disagree, you can shutXup.

Ok here's what I think is going on. Annie was testing him in the last page, and from her point of view, he's failed miserably. However, Jack interpreted "I don't think I like you very much" as "Bud's watching us, play along". Still, I think he's being completely serious. He just wants to be able to hide behind "I thought we were putting on a show for Bud" if he thinks he hurt Annie.

I'm hoping for this theory, although it seems like quite a complicated approach. He's been fascinated with Zimmy for a while, but... the only time he asked her on a date or asked her anything, pretty much, it seemed to be the spider, not him.... I can't take this seriously. What this leaves me wondering is what will Annie do? .....I hope she says something about Gamma, just because I imagine the response would be rather glorious.

That's how I'm reading it, but I'm prepared to be surprised anyway, given Tom's penchant for twists and turns. :) I think Zimmy's pretty perceptive, and she paired Annie and Jack right from the start. That could be significant. I think the whitelegs was speaking when he asked Zimmy out.
