Girl Genius – www.girlgeniusonline.comFunny, well thought out storylines. Pretty good drawing and colouring. Kind of techno-fantasy type of comic. It saddens me that the awesome name "Steampunk" seems unknown to so many. Girl Genius is Steampunk with Mad Science thrown in, and is indeed excellent. Not as risque as some of the Foglios' other stuff, which is a plus. Of course, after saying it's Steampunk, I must note that the Foglios call it "Gaslamp Fantasy". ...Which means it's Steampunk. Well, lessee, some of my favourite comics... Irregular Webcomic! is an excellent one. it's been online for a very long time, and has, to my knowledge, updated every single day since it started in 2002. Anyways, it's a comic that pokes fun at a bunch of genres (the author has a number of "themes" which he cycles through. So one day you get a parody of Indiana Jones, then it's a parody of Sci-fi, then Fantasy, then James Bond, then the Myth Busters, then back to Indiana Jones, etc.) despite which it has a cast made up entirely of returning characters (Quite a few multi-genre parody comics just create new characters every time.) It's also hilarious, geeky, and completely work-safe. I highly recommend it. The same, artist(?), is also working on a dedicated spoof of Star Wars (ala DM of the Rings) called Darths and Droids, which is still finding it's legs a bit, but that I find hilarious. Very geeky with lots of Roll Playing references (though you don't need to know anything about RPing to get most of the jokes.) Next on my list is Schlock Mercenary. Honestly, I'm surprised that no one else here has mentioned it. It's another incredibly long-running comic that's updated every day since it started. It's a funny Sci-Fi thing about a group of mercenaries. It has reasonably "hard" science (Only one or two things go unexplained or are unfeasible with current understandings of physics.) I highly recommend it, since I can guarantee you it'll make you laugh. (A note: Mr. Taylor's art increases exponentially in quality over the course of the strip to date, and the subtlety of his jokes also gets better. So don't be thrown off by the first year.) Freefall is yet another good one. It's Sci-fi, but not in space, and entirely hard-science. Since it's been running for years but only covers about a week in comic time I can't really summarize it well, just go read it.

Ah yes, thanks. I really liked that one, because it was one of those super weird fantasy comics. Funny, I just read Between Two Worlds last week, when I saw it on the Broken Mirror website. Funnily enough i found Between much better than Broken - it has better characterization and a very cute cat who gets her own little adventure storylines as clickable options within the main storyline. Definitely the best aspect and art in the whole (rather weird) story. As for Broken Mirror I found the characters flat and unengaging and the narrative very slow and stilted. The art is so-so, the faces are bland and all look the same, but the colours are beautiful. One webcomic that has impressed me is Lizzy (http://comics.cyberneticevilstudios.com/) drawn by a clearly demented but gifted Dutchman - WARNING: VERY MATURE content. Crazy storyline of cyborgs, mythics, warring gods and teenage rebellion. Good art and beautiful colouring, the flash animation is impressive, and the female protagonist, though half nude, has a very full figure (overweight, by modern beauty standards), and has character. And gets her period at awkward moments. Nice.

One comic that I really like, that hasn't been mentioned yet, is Nintendo Super Squad. (Warning! Not Safe for Work, sometimes!) It's the totally juvenille adventures of Mario, Link, Metroid, and some other guys as they go on their merry way to do absolutely nothing of consequence. I really love it, but the dude who makes it is kinda slow on updates, which dampers my enjoyment of it a bit.

Anyone mention Mr. Goh yet? It's a simple little comic with some nice, cute humor. Everything else I read has already been mentioned... (But of them, I really recommend Minus, Rice Boy, Ugly Girl, Gone with the Blastwave, Cat and Girl, and Afterstrife)

I had a skim through and enjoyed it for the great characters, writing, and humour. I felt that the art let it down a bit, though, although it improved at the end. It's so hard to find great storyline AND great art...

I can't believe you guys have all gone and left out my two favourite webcomics of all time - Natalie Dee and A Softer World. And it's not even like ya'll can't know about them! Toothpaste for dinner AND married to the sea got mentioned, and they are the suckier ones! Same with all the TaBB comics, Dinosaur Comics and the perry bible fellowship were mentioned! Oh my. I cannot comprehend the lack of Natalie Dee (man I was reading her before I even knew what a webcomic WAS) and A Softer World! Here are the links for you sad, sad people (I am not good at making things work, so I didn't put them in the names as little linky doodads like some of you did) www.nataliedee.comwww.asofterworld.comWhich is which!? It's hard to say, since I can't do linky doodads. Another good one is Reman Mythology, but the author stopped it to do other things, and now they're writing it as a novel instead. It's pretty sad, but you can enjoy it until the end of chapter 3 and then cry and hang out for the book with me? (Also on my comics bookmark are white ninja, which somebody mentioned, but isn't very good these days, and dinosaur comics, which is pretty okay but I forgot about it etc. Also Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal is PRETTY GOOD GUYS!) Oh, and ThingPart! That's a good un. I enjoy this thread. Yay?!

I see a fair number of people recommending VG cats, I never liked it, to be honest.
All the jokes are toilet humour, and they all last waaaaaaaaay too long. They rarely have a punchline, too.
All in all, they read like the artist just threw a whole bunch of ideas together, wrote down the ones that made his 5-year old brother giggle, and then put them up without editing them for length of coherence.
What, exactly, is it I'm missing?

I read some pages of it, bookmarked it for further reading. I apparently deleted the bookmark. But do you have anything even near that?

Had a look at these two. Love the dark singlehood humour of CLV. And fabulous art in the Awakened, it looks ready to roll onto the silver screen as a new Disney instalment, except much too dark... very good. Cool plot and characters.

Any 'comic'[/li][li] with this bill wins: Garfield Minus Garfield[/li][li] I say 'comic' because it's more photoshopped than created. Still freakin' genious!

Nah, SG is easily the best. You just have to read it slowly, making each panel last at least a quarter-second.

Ooo, I read a bunch of comics not listed here. Xylia: Faeries, reincarnation, talking corgis....what's not to love? The Dreamer: A girl dreams that she's back in 1776 during the revolutionary war, but it may be more than a dream. ooof, too lazy to BBC code all of these. crowfeathers.net/ (mature content, sometimes NSFW) www.sarahzero.com/index.html Sometimes I'm not too sure what's going on, but I simply love the composition of SZ. spqrblues.com/ : Soap opera in ancient Rome. With really great art. crimsonnight.net/ : Reaper 7, a comic about a girl who is a powerful weapon, and the jerk who has to protect her. Many laughs abound. www.askdreldritch.com/ : Absolutely hilarious comic.

Yes, Xylia not only has a great story line, but the art is AMAZING. A comic really worth checking out! One of my real favourites. I've read the Dreamer too, it's cute and the storyline is quirky and romantic and funny. The art is good if a bit too standardized for my taste.

Here's a great one, Freakangels. It's written by noted comic scribe Warren Ellis and drawn by the very talented Paul Duffield. It's about a group of superhumans (I believe)called the Freakangels in London in a post-apocalyptic future where the earth is flooded. Oh, and they may have caused it. Fantastic writing, great characters, and the art is bloody brilliant. They update on Fridays only (U.S. Time, I believe. Don't know exactly what time.) but you get six strips at a go so it's worth the wait. There are now 7 six-comic episodes up and I heartily recommend you start at the beginning.

I do believe, if I wait here long enough, all the comics I've stopped reading for one reason or another (lost address, forgot and then lost address, etc) will be posted. I have counted no less than five links to comics that I have left off reading for one reason or another while going through this thread to avoid repeating links. Holy $%!#. this is more or less the case for me. I don't remember anyone mentioning these: Dominic Deegan, Oracle for Hire : a little sappy at moments, but the story is engrossing. updates daily. Tales of a Questor: a cute fantasy world, insofar as racoonfolk are cute. not all is sunshine daisies. so you have a hero to attack the darkness. SequentialArt: A cat, penguin, and squirrel room with a human. by the way, the cat's a photographer, the penguin earns his keep on e-buy, and the squirrel is a genius with a short at- LOOK! Shiney thing!
