I thought it might be nice to start a topic about favorite web comics. Just a title and link for the online comics you’re following. No need to include samples of comics you DON’t like. Here are links to my favorites: Girl Genius – www.girlgeniusonline.comFunny, well thought out storylines. Pretty good drawing and colouring. Kind of techno-fantasy type of comic. Gone with the Blastwave - www.blastwavecomic.com/Excellent drawings, great comic if you have a dark sense of humour So Zoo me - www.sozoome.com/Silly, but funny. Involves ill-mannered animals Stephan Brusche - www.sb77.nl/sb77-e.htmDutch, but many comics without text. Amazing art, and interesting experiments with animations John & John - www.johnandjohn.nl/I really shouldn’t be recommending this one, but I can’t help myself; it’s too funny. Totally not acceptable to view at work. Nasty sense of humour required. Nozzman - www.nozzman.com/a lot more acceptable. Does include comics that some may find offensive. The Far side with a Dutch twist.

A lovely plan. I have just a few. I'm not going to link the ones I assume everyone already knows about, such as Scary Go Round and Questionable Content. I'm just going to do one I think everyone should really read, as it is way too funny to pass up. xkcd- www.xkcd.comxkcd is a hilarious comic of mathmatical, scientific, and language jokes. It is brilliant, highly amusing, and very intelligent. I frequently relate.

There's "Arthur King of Time and Space". www.arthurkingoftimeandspace.com/This is a bizarre webcomic in which King Arthur's drawing the Sword out of the Stone triggers a strange magical event which causes analogues of Arthur and those close around him to appear in other time periods (it's actually more complicated than that). The main settings are the conventional "Mythical Age of Chivalry", a techno-feudal world with a strong flavor of "Star Trek" about it (with Arthur as Kirk, Lancelot as Spock, Guinevere as McCoy, and Merlin as a time travelling adventurer based on the Doctor from "Dr. Who"), and the modern U.S. (where Arthur is the new CEO of Excalicorp). Some of the humor is obscure, but many of the strips are very funny, with such delightful lines as an indignant line from Gawain (when Lancelot accuses him of being passed out and Gawain claims that he's taking a nap), "It's not passed out if you're doing it on purpose." Incidentally, the strip introduced me to Gunnerkrigg Court, since one of the extras on the site had King Arthur and Merlin hosting a webcomics award ceremony, with Annie being one of the people present (and thereby getting to add Arthur and Merlin to the list of "mythical people that I've met", alongside Basil the Minotaur).

Achewood, one of the best comics on the internet. A lot of people don't find this comic that funny at all. This is usually because it takes more than 20 or so pages to really get into it, and once you do, you can't tear yourself away. You have to really follow along but it's so, so rewarding. So you're now probably asking "Okay so how can I get into this without having to read the archive of comics since 2001?" well, while reading the archives is a great thing to do, I can recommend that once you are familiar with most of the characters and you're still not into it yet, start reading right HERE.Keep at it...you'll see.

Rice Boy. Love it...a little surreal, so stay away if your tastes do not run in that direction, but delightful. Also I love Zebra Girl

Skinny Panda. I haven't found a comic like it yet. Warm & fuzzy with humour and bizarro stick person interludes. Vampirates! has vampires, pirates, vampires who are pirates, and they're all Canadian. Thus my affinity. The Non-Adventures of Wonderella has some wicked awesome ditzy snark. Definitely a comic for those who like superheroes and/or like to make fun of them.

Inverloch, excellent fantasy. Hero By Night, a different approach to the superhero comic. No Rest for the Wicked, sorta about fairy tales, recently stalled but I have high hopes. Looking For Group, an amusing parody of fantasy and RPGs. Return of the Exile, 'nother fantasy one. Shades of Grey, Heaven and Hell and what's inbetween. Crowfeathers, the Wild West meets magic and the undead (very violent). This is Gravity, urban fantasy. The Gunfighter's Life, another Wild West one, again with undead. The Dreamland Chronicles, another urban fantasy, but with a slight slant on the genre, very good. Legendary, RPG comic, nowhere near as good as The Order of the Stick but has it moments. OotS, very funny RPG comic strip.

In no particular order: Wapsi Square. My second favorite webcomic, behind GC. Ancient archeaology, mystery, mythical creatures, soul-searching, romance, internal demons, delicious spine-chilling moments. Recent quote: "Besides, if I hadn't been murdered 12,000 years ago we never would have met. Funny, huh? I'll show myself out." Scary Go Round. Prolly everyone knows about this one already. Unpredictable good British fun. Girls With Slingshots. McPedro! 'Nuff said. (Well almost. Web site seems broken (at least for me) - page loads, then redirects to generic Twitter page unstoppably, dangit! ) Starslip Crisis. Centers around an art museum on a functional luxury space warship in the 3rd millenium. As you might expect from that description, it's full of non-sequiturs. (not sure if I got the year right) Dresden Codak. Fascinating, unpredictable, great artwork. Kimiko rocks! Latest storyline involves robot with Robot-like wings that emerges from the ground. Namir Deiter. Anthropomorphic cats, slugs, and other animals attending high school, college, and living human lives. Lots of soul-searching. Been around a long time. Not one I expected to like, but it kind of grew on me. Like a fur coat. Wigu and Overcompensating. Wigu is the comic proper, Overcompensating is creator Jeffrey Rowland's, um, not sure how to describe it. Just got a cool new entry portal. Two Lumps. Seems to have orginated as a more, er, "realistic" Garfield. Follows the misadventures of two quirky Russian Blue cats, mostly around their home. The Devil's Panties. Jennie Breeden's semi-autobiographical webcomic of silly happenings. Planet Karen. The webcomic-style diary of British goth girl Karen Ellis. Nice stuff. Goats. Bizarre. Not sure how else to describe it. You just have to check it out. Start at the beginning or it won't make sense at all. Bunny, the book of Random. Neat randomness. Try to find the hidden message. If there is one. Pibgorn. Great graphics. A fairy, a succubus, and the meek musician torn between the two. Nearly literally. Pibgorn is syndicated, and I don't know how to get more than 30 days of the archive. Which could make it pretty hard to get started with. Girly. Follows the unconventional adventures of Otra and Winter. The early chapters might not be considered work-safe. This is the one that led me to GC. Stuff Sucks. They "are concerned about music".

My mention of "Arthur King of Time and Space" seems to have led to the presence of an ad for a replica of King Arthur's sword at the top! (The ad is genuinely there - or was when I came by just now - at least.)

Wow, I feel dwarfed by all you webcomic lovers. I don't know NEARLY as many. Dr. McNinja-- www.drmcninja.comI'm surprised no one's mentioned it, but it's a grand old time. Lots of ninjas! Sam and Fuzzy-- samandfuzzy.comEven more ninjas than Dr. McNinja! There are a LOT of comics, but you can tag where you left off, and they're ALL worth reading. Very in-depth storytelling. Cyanide and Happiness-- www.explosm.netGo there and click on comics. NOT work-safe. Not nearly the depth of work of most of the ones you folks are familiar with, but good for some cheap chuckles. Penny Arcade-- www.penny-arcade.comGabe and Tycho have a longstanding tradition of beautifully done work. A few four-letter words...but they're used with sophistication. VG Cats-- www.vgcats.comFunny vignettes of anthropomorphic cats, who are also nerds. Good if you're a gamer. Or even if you're not. 8-bit Theater-- www.nuklearpower.comSprite comics from Final Fantasy 1-A murderous Black Mage pairs with a ridiculously stupid yet loveable Fighter (named Black Mage and Fighter, respectively) until the meet Thief and Red Mage! The author is very gifted with names. A continuous storyline for over 800 pages, get set for some endurance reading. There you have it. My tiny collection, just beginning. Also, I'm trying to start my own fairly soon! I'll probably plug it shamelessly in this thread and others when it gets off the ground.

I do believe, if I wait here long enough, all the comics I've stopped reading for one reason or another (lost address, forgot and then lost address, etc) will be posted. www.questionablecontent.net/- In case someone here hasn't read it. Somewhere in the future, but it's not very noticeable. Indie geeks and snarky baristas. iofm.comicgenesis.com/- Gunnerkrigg, but American, college-d and more explained. ...okay, maybe not *so* Gunnerkrigg. www.somethingpositive.net/- R.K. Milholland is one of my gods.

What, no Applegeeks, Megatokyo, or Sluggy? Sluggy & Megatokyo are essentially the 'classics' of webcomic-ness. For good measure, let's drop in Kevin & Kell and Ctrl-Alt-Del as well.

No-one has yet mentioned Errant Story and the Perry Bible Fellowship? I'm amazed. Errantstory ( www.errantstory.com) (how do you make text hyperlink thingies?) is a fantasy thingie concerning mostly a slightly psychotic half-elven mage, and i could give you lots of exciting background info but I can't be bothered. The story is a bit slow in places with lots of talking but really good anyways. The Perry Bible Fellowship ( www.pbfcomics.com) specializes in mixing the innocent with the bizarre, disturbing and downright morbid. The art style varies between overly simple and incredibly detailed. Where weeaboo comes from. Also, you might be the kind of people to like Elf Life, I love it although it has one of the most confusing story lines ever, and the artist is apparently to poor to continue doing it, so it never updates anymore. It's at www.elflife.com.

Much obliged.
Re: Re: Perry Bible Fellowship. There's actually a norwegian comic magazine which has PBF in it, but sadly only four comics a month (come to think about it, that's the update schedule of the website as well, but it has a head start). It is glorious to see it in full 300 dpi on glossy paper, though. Saying this I realize I haven't actually bought the dead tree version of GC, which seems to offer those very features.

Here's one I can't believe I forgot: Copper. Beautiful artwork and sometimes clear, sometimes hidden musings on life's bigger questions. This is a really well and tastefully done work of genius. Currently on hiatus, unfortunately. Re Something Positive: I tried SP a while back, but it's so overflowing with cynicism it eventually drove me away. But I miss Choo-Choo Bear... (sigh) He's one of the greatest creations ever.

Nine Planets Without Intelligent Life www.bohemiandrive.com/comics/npwil.htmlLife, the universe and everything, as experienced by two robots who have otherwise outlived their purpose. PX! www.pandaxpress.com/A girl, her panda, a victorian-era secret agent and a roller-skating, disco assasin. And wouldn't you know, it's even -better- than the sum of its parts.

well now lets see... some of my favorites have already been named... Girly and Dresden Codak that is~ however i'd also like to put up Starship Moonhawk - A comic by Michael Prokop; This ones got pretty good storyline, but can sometimes be hard to follow, also drawn by a friend of mine. Kiwis by Beat - a set of comics by Ryan Armmand; my personal fvorite is " Minus." but he has a few others as well. Minus. is about a girl who can do about anything she puts her mind too; also, this comic is painted, not drawn. Misfile - Drawn by Chris (sorry dont know his last name). its a story about a bit of a celestial mixup and two peoples lives getting changed around. not particularly risque, though i would not recommend reading it at work, as the main characters problem is that 'he' is now a 'she'. Directions of Destiny - by Hans Tseng; i no not this person. a story about an academy, with stundents that have magic abilities; the artwork is superb. he is also restarting his comic from the beginning. The Lounge - one of a few by JJ Carek. not particularly worksafe. has many adult themes and images, though you dont "see" anything i still would not recommend reading this at work. it is the story of a girl with a videogame store. nekobox - artist young Wang; comic is quite cute and is mostly comedy with no set storyline. artist has several galleries that are not worksafe. =============================== also as this is my first post.... hi nice to meet you, im otoshi.

PBF appears, more or less weekly, in the Guardian in the UK. They have on one occasion at least ('Hard Read') edited it slightly, most irritating.

Platinum Grit. This is without a doubt my single favourite comic about a clever redhead who likes to invent things and whose family has a mysterious past (if it's any consolation, Gunnerkrigg is a very close second ). Surreal and silly, but with a tricky plot and backstory lurking below the surface. Might not be worksafe due to bad words, occasional violence, and occasional nudiness. Not quite as whimsical as Gunnerkrigg Court, and not nearly as many robots as Girl Genius, but the protagonist blushes a lot more often than in both of those titles combined Dinosaur Comics. Three dinosaurs, a bit of stomping, and a lot of awesome. My New Fighting Technique Is Unstoppable. Also features My New Filing Technique Is Unstoppable, and the not so entertaining Get Your War On. Not exactly the most sophisticated comic on the internet, but I like it anyway.

Darken - One of my favs right now, based on a DnD game so it's fantasy based. The Curious Adventures of Aldus Maycombe - A must read for everyone, it's still somewhat new and the art is fantastic. The author just recently won the WCCA for best black and white art.

Dicebox - www.dicebox.net/ - Story of two travelling blue collar workers trying to make it in the universe. Very well done, somewhat confusing at times. Alpha Shade - www.alpha-shade.com/ - Story about dimension traveling talking cats, or soemthign like that. Moves kind of slow, but good.

I like Alpha Shade, but the site's incredibly sluggish. I've decided to wait for the books to come out and not read it online at all. Because the source material is vector graphics, it looks very sharp in print. Some of my faves that haven't been mentioned yet: North World: I think the author Larsony described it as "plain clothes fantasy" at one point; it's the story of the badass polo shirt wearing swordsman Conrad, who is currently visiting his old hometown to defeat a demon summoner. Set to Sea: single panel serial strip that's worth reading just for the insanely detailed art. It's about a clumsy poet giant that gets kidnapped to be forced to work on a trading ship. (edit: I just noticed the site's a bit broken right now; the navigation buttons don't show up and there's two empty pages when you click "First") Cheer!: a spinoff from The Wotch focussing on the lives of the Tandy Gardens cheerleader squad. Personally I think it's actually quite a bit better than the comic that spawned it, especially in the artwork department. Technically a transgender comic, although it's really not that relevant.

I hate to toot my own horn but, uh, my webcomic is just struggling out of the muck here. Flapjack Canyon: It's six panels a week about (and this is the best way I can put it) the dry, rotting taste your mouth gets after you sleep for sixteen hours.

It's always a pleasure to share my favorite comic, Jack, to anyone willing to take a look. Fair warning: It's (usually) very serious, very dark, and very graphic. It's also Furry. ;3 pholph.com/index_a.php?Strip=1Also, first post. Yay.
