I recently came across August Jessor. It's funny and the art's refreshingly different from most other webcomics. The backgrounds kind of remind me of Cave Monster. It seems the comic's just wrapping up it's first storyline: www.jessor.com/index.php?pageID=0

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned DrowtalesI found it recently, and I absolutely love it! It's about this little Drow chick named Ariel who is locked up in the tower of her home (at least at the beginning anyway). Due to a series of events, she is sent to a school for the 8/9 drow clans (can't remember exactly how many). And also, because of the afore mentions events, she has to pose as a boy. However, there is lots of gender inequality in the world she lives in. And--okay, I'm gonna shut up now >.> Just check it out, okay? Also, there is Fate's TearIt's got a lot of potential, and the storyline is very unique! Basically, there is a war going on between the Yin and Yang people and when every child is born they are born in limbo before they turn either Yin or Yang. However, sometimes a child that is born gets affected by a disease called Fate's Tear (not sure what exactly this disease is yet). The story is basically about this dude who has the Fate's Tear, and his quest to be free of it Haha, bad summary I know. Did anyone mention Blackbird, I like this one very much and nothing I can say can do it justice! There's a lot more, but I won't bore you anymore

Linked to from Beaver and Steve just now: the Princess PlanetREALLY funny stuff. (edit) There was some rambling about the navigation on the page here before, but the site's been modified since and it's all pretty clear now.

Bang BarstalA surreal post-apocalyptic tale about a butt-ugly Southern gentleman with a fearsome magical baseball bat. A Christian comic that doesn't preach. Forget I said that and just go read it. Pug DavisThe toughest dog in the universe fights aliens to save America. (Warning: if you are gay and sensitive about it, you might not enjoy the sidekick character... although I don't think the author means any harm. But it's stretching the stereotype kinda thin in places... into biting satire.) Vulcan & VishnuVulcan & Vishnu ch. 2A silent strip about two honest workmen who think more than you do. They are the McGyver twins, and their wordless adventures describe engineering feats before your eyes. An amazing story telling technique. (Warning!! pages load hundreds of graphics each -- not for dialup!) EDIT: seems they're rearranging the comic. You can see the rest of the 376 frames (ch. 3?) here: s149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/streetfables/v-and-v/?

Sam and Fuzzy, Dr. McNinja, Penny Arcade, Overcompensating, Starslip Crisis, Dinosaur Comics, XKCD, Achewood, Real Life, White Ninja, Toothpaste for Dinner and Married to the Sea, and Rob and Elliott used to be good, but they stopped updating it for some reason.
I'm not gonna lie to you, that's just the list of webcomics I have in my bookmarks.
It's basically a list of the comics I read ordered from favorite to least favorite, roughly. Gunnerkrigg is somewhere in the top three.

Has anyone mentioned Afterstrife yet? It has supernatural things and funky eyes. And sarcasm. Always with the sarcasm. Beaver and Steve (in case no one's put an actual link to it yet) is taffing good as well. James himself is a very nice guy - he even replies to fanmail! What a nice chap. He even has a smoking jacket. Ctrl+Alt+Del is in the same sort of vein as Penny Arcade and VGCats, and I just stick to the comic and ignore the rest of the site, if I'm honest. Others one which I'm sure must have been mentioned are Scary Go Round, Ninja Bunny and Questionable Content. Sinfest must get a mention as well, and another rather random one that gets very sporadically updated is Bigger Than Cheeses. Right, there's all that I read! Hope there's something new in there for ye. I lied! I almost forgot Bunny. Shame on me. Sorry, Lem. Also, there is another blossoming webcomic belonging to a friend that I read, but I cannot link it here as it contains lots of references to rude Internet memes. If you wish to go seek anyway, it is called Because Internet.

Really like this one. I really don't have the time to start reading all the ones posted here, I have enough with the ones here I already read and the ones I had forgotten. Indeed.

One I just discovered recently, Juathuur. I warn you it's very long (almost 800 pages I think) and you may end up spending several hours reading up to the current page and wonder why there isn't more ... 'Tis most awesome and nearing the end. *pokes* Go read it.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned El Goonish Shive yet. Magic, weird science, shape-shifting, gender-bending, aliens, and Jeremy, the creature nature never intended. Oh, and a Demonic Duck. Read, or the owl will eat you! And then there's Shortpacked!, all about toys, collecting and life in retail. And Batman jokes. Human Decency is a pretty cute comic, about a girl and her demon. Only about thirty strips so far, but it definitely looks promising. Bonobo Conspiracy can be a little obscure, but some days it's very funny. No Pink Ponies is pretty good, especially if you're into comics. Sadly, updates have been a little sparse lately, partly due to the author's involvement in other projects, such as Marry Me. Banished! is a pretty good sci-fi comic. Evil Inc. features super-villains gone corporate. You can do more evil if you do it legally. Krakow is a little hard to explain, but I like it. One webcomic I actually discovered off-line is Chugworth Academy. Probably R-rated, what with the sexual situations (no actual nudity), occasional violence and frequent bad language. On the up side, the artwork is gorgeous, even if the writing isn't always up to the same standard. On the downside, updates have been pretty spotty for a while, and the site currently seems to be dead, although I'm still hoping it'll come back eventually. Holy Bibble is a re-telling of the Bible from a, um, unique perspective. Just a sampling of strips I read regularly, or at least liked well enough to bookmark. Most of my other favorites have already been mentioned in this thread. BTW: Rob and Elliot is updating again, albeit only about once a week, if that.

Krakow is a little hard to explain, but I like it. Hard to explain? Hm. Lemme try... it's about a dork who summons a succubus who then proceeds to fall in love with him? It's an OK comic at any rate. ...I mean, I read it. I recently came across Count Your Sheep: countyoursheep.com/It's quite a beautiful comic about a little girl, her mom and their (imaginary?) sheep friend. Basically a gag-a-day strip about a kid and her wild imagination, but there's a bit more to it.

(Hi there. Longtime reader, first time poster, probably only going to be posting very rarely, but I love reccing webcomics. So:) Rice Boy, Zebra Girl, Dicebox and Digger have already been mentioned, so that's four of my favourites taken care of, and we're on the forum of the fifth. So, out of my top ten, this leaves me to mention: Templar, Arizona - A slice-of-life comic from a city located not quite in our reality, where people read copy books, visit clay bars, and fried cavy on a stick is a popular fast food. Great characters, great dialogue and art. Otter Soldiers - Dark contemporary fantasy from Finland. Santa Claus is dead and his elves have erected a 1984-type system to control humans. Bizarre concept, good characters, gorgeous art. Finder - 'Anthropological SF' set in a fascinating world peopled by fascinating characters. Unfortunately there is no complete online archive, so it may be a bit difficult to get into; also, the author is only posting pencils at the moment due to some health problems, which don't give you a full impression of the beauty of the comic. Still, there are a number of older issues available for online reading, and the current storyline is quite interesting, so if you think you have the patience to get into a strange world without the author leading you by the hand all the time, give this a try. HERO - Not your typical fantasy web manga at all. It's Walky! - Started out as a mediocre college comedy and turned, over the course of seven years, into a bizarre mix of sf/apocalyptic drama, romance, highly inappropriate humor, etc. It shouldn't work, but it does. Somehow the disparate elements help to enhance each other's effect instead of cancelling each other out. Not quite in the top ten, but high up on my reading list nevertheless: What Birds Know - Three teenaged girls' trip into the woods turns strange and dangerous. Ice - A neovictorian London in what looks like a new ice age. Kaspall - An anthropomorphic fantasy/crime story, but without the cutesyness that makes so many furry comics hard to digest. Has some of the most interesting page layouts I've seen in webcomics.

Dinosaur Comics: the complete triumph of writing over art. Every comic uses the same six panels (the author admits he can't draw), while the dialog carries the comic to dizzying heights of greatness. There's philosophy, absurdity, hilarity, and a T. rex who loves stomping on things. (There's extra punchlines hidden in the title text--hold the mouse over the comic to read them.) Wondermark: a gag strip by a man who is thoroughly versed in what is funny and what isn't. (He has a series of columns on the website detailing exactly why all those boring comic strips in the newspaper are not funny. He knows his stuff.) (Also, like Dinosaur Comics, extra punchlines in the title text.) Shiga Books: a number of complete stories by Jason Shiga. I highly recommend Meanwhile (a choose-your-own-adventure where a boy gets to test out a scientist's inventions), Bookhunter (a over-the-top police story about a Dirty Harry-type cop working in the library police in the 70's), Double Happiness (the story of a young man who has trouble fitting in with his relatives, with a shocking ending), Fleep (in which a man wakes up in a concrete-encased phone booth), and Bus Stop (in which a cartoonist meets someone at a bus stop and becomes obsessed with finding her again). Everything else is highly skippable.

Man, I can't believe there's so much good material out there...never thought about it when I started reading questionable content. Other stuff I like and has been mentioned include Dresden Codak, Dr. McNinja, Looking for a group. The ones that haven't been posted: Least I could do : From the guys of Blind Ferret (Looking for a group) a small webcomic that updates everyday showing of the life of Rayne, a guy in his late tweenties, inmature, getting laid with whatever female he can, and... well, that's about it...but is reeeeally funny. Minus : A little girl (Minus) with some cool magic (I'm guessing) powers that let her affect reality in whatever way she wants. The artwork is specially great!!! Last Blood: like his author says "After zombies take over the Earth, vampires must protect the last surviving humans so they can live off their blood. " Artwork is SUPER, a must see Marry Me: What happens when one of the worlds greatest pop singers marries a guy just because she's sick of dating (and the guy doesn't like her music anyway)...well, that the main plot of the short "novel" Marry Me; written by the same guy of Last Blood, but drawed by someone else. It makes me laugh a lot

Submitted for your consideration*: Narbonic. narbonic.com/ Mad Science, Intelligent Gerbils, Death Rays, Underground Lairs, Heavy Weapons and Zombified Henchmen...And * that's* just the first year! Ozy and Millie. ozyandmillie.org/ D.C. Simpson's gently twisted view of the World through the eyes of a boy-fox and girl-fox. Poisoned Minds/S.S.D.D. poisonedminds.com/ A 180˚ turn from "Ozy and Millie". A furry comic set in a future dystopia. Lots of violence, swearing and generally NSFW shenanigans. One of my faves... The Zombie Hunters. thezombiehunters.com/tzh/index.php One of the best webcomics out there! (Again, a good bit of violence; but none of it gratuitous.) Impy and Aevy. www.impyandaevy.com/ A Goth Art Student, a Pink Mage, her pet Dog-Demon and their many Adventures... Sins. sincomics.com/ Who says that sins * have* to be deadly? The Nolans. joshnickerson.com/nolans/Octopus Pie. www.octopuspie.com/ Slightly Damned. www.raizap.com/sdamned/index.php*In no particular order.

Nice siggy, Mezz Has anyone noticed that there's about 180 people on this forum who have never posted anything? And as long as I'm in this thread.... Juathuur Gatecrash! Sequel to Juathuur, which was posted in this thread previously www.sweetquark.com/juathuur/Foxden! Fun little fantasy thingy. Not very long yet, but looks promising. kitsune.rydia.net/comicsfeywinds.htmlGoblins! For the nerd in each of us. It'll probably be funnier if you know anything about D&D. (Bloody!) goblinscomic.com/Annnnd that should tide you over for now. EDIT: Almost forget, has anyone put up The Broken Mirror yet? Great art, great writing. The artist/writer team also has another (completed) webcomic whose name escapes me, but they have a link to it, and both are worth reading. www.the-broken-mirror.net/index.php
