If you continue the chemical allegory, the implication is that Antimony has similar (chemical) properties as (Seed) Bismuth. So ... like SB, Annie is also capable of generating sudden massive, radical changes in herself and her environment... explosive growth, new structures. Antimony is mostly used in lead-acid batteries, so it stores a lot of power. It is also used in flame-retarding chemicals - Annie can certainly control and channel fire! Its original use was in cosmetics (eyeliner) used by the Egyptians... Annie does like her eye makeup. So there are some interesting connections... Others in that column are Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Arsenic. Wonder if there's any more to that. Ah yes, and a compound of indium and antimony is used to make infrared detectors... they let you effectively "see" heat. Something any fire-elemental can probably do...

Wonder if there's any more to that. as for your question on the other column members, nitrogen is a gas important for life (DNA, RNA, ATP), but vis-a-vis Annie, its use in many explosives (nitroglycerine, TNT) is probably the most relevant property. Phosphorus is also important for life, but here its use in fireworks, and that some forms glow in the dark connects to our fire-head girl. Arsenic is poisonous, but one (until recently) major use was in a compound (CCA) which is a wood preservative. Annie saves the forest?

Interesting hypothesis. It's still possible Bismuth is reserved for a real creature/person we have not yet met with different traits from Annie; I think I've seen Eglamore wearing the Lead symbol on his armor, and Hettie has the Phosphorus symbol on her forehead. We also see that when Reynardine is briefly out of his body he has the Mercury symbol* on his forehead (which makes sense of the chapter title, "Quicksilver," which is another name for mercury). [*It may also be that Reynardine as Mercury is just a Paracelsus materia-prima counterpoint to Antimony's soul being "sulfur" (fire) and her body being "salt" (body). It's just a nice trio.] Some part of me suspects Bismuth is the 'seed' for the court simply because it's pretty, looks like buildings, and is a heavier metal.

Hettie has the Phosphorus symbol on her forehead. And she has a... professional interest... in Arsenic. (Interesting stuff about Phosphorus and Mercury. I hadn't seen that before.)

In Chapter 31, we see a flashback in which Surma pretends to be romantically attracted to Rey for the purpose of luring him into a trap.
In Chapter 34, Annie pretends to be romantically attracted to Jack, for the purpose of...maybe hurting him somehow? Getting information out of him? She isn't really sure.

Coyote v. Kat in a Gunnerkrigg __ *___! * Left blank in the final edit because all the earlier edits didn't sound PG.

In this page gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1732 Jeanne instantly recognises a dragonslayer's power for exactly what it is, and parries it. In the pages immediately before, she knows sword discipline and is able to summon her sword as part of her. Added to what we already know of her (she was the swordswoman of her Court's day), must she not actually have been that Court's dragonslayer herself?

On this page, it's implied a BADGER had a AEROPLANE TOY. But, wouldn't it be tecnology from the Court, thus forbidden for Forest dwelers? OR (wildspeccing) he was HUMAN before being an Animal, so this memory comes from 2 previous lives. If so, that would mean there is a full cycle not only of ether and physical bodies, but of SOULS (samsara, anyone?)

He could have gotten the airplane after joining Foley, but he isn't allowed to take it to class. So he only has his (recent) memory to play with while they go over orbital mechanics or whatever sweat shop calculations they are working on. I think Ysengrin's requirement for humans to forget their former lives as they transform into animals makes an earlier memory problematic even if a convert could reconvert. EDIT: I have to correct myself. Ysengrin requires humans to give up their bodies. Still looking for the in comic reference about memory loss.

I speculated that one of Young's motives for getting rid of Jeanne was that he didn't want a female successor. She would have been more than capable.

Just noticed Tom's comment on this page: "Most of them." I'm guessing that it references Bugsy's statement, "And when most of these kids get old enough to earn their own clothes, they go on to important jobs in the Court!" (emphasis added). Now I'm wondering what happens to the other ones... Also: in the Foley area of the Court, there are streamers hung from the ceiling like the streamers in the Forest. Makin' the place look homelike, I see.

I just realized: the fact that shadow was able to communicate with Annie via spelling out words in chapter one, means that he somehow learned to read and write in the English language. That's interesting.

I speculated that one of Young's motives for getting rid of Jeanne was that he didn't want a female successor. She would have been more than capable. I think we have Word of Tom that is was Diego's idea to use Jeanne, and in his old age he was just shunting the blame over to Young in order to be able to look at himself in the mirror. Beyond that, though, I think we don't really need to ascribe to sexism what is easily explained by sheer self-righteousness. I'm pretty sure Young's Final Record was the one that was all about "We did what we needed to do" blah blah blah. In his mind, the sacrifice of Jeanne was a necessary step to safeguarding the Court, and he easily accepted Diego's plan. Who to sacrifice was up to Diego, and he very nearly says as much when he tells Jeanne that "things didn't have to be this way." (I'm probably paraphrasing. I'm on a laptop which I've blocked most webcomics I follow for the sake of not continuously browsing them during class).

I never noticed that on page 404 that one dude in panel 3 is making the same expression as the face on his T-shirt. Wow.

That's what the shoutbox rant is referring to!
Edit: Mixed up my terminology, basically because TV Tropes is the only place I saw these terms used.

In page 724 Jones reveals that the court tracks students through their food. In page 977 Jones reveals that if the court ever tracks down Shadow Annie might never see him again. In page 978 she gives him sweets, conveniently from a plastic bag as you might buy at a store. I.e. something we can be sure the court has not messed with. Quite considerate of her. Incidentally, I only now realized that this is probably why Annie explicitly said that he needed food. If the food didn't make Shadow traceable she probably could've just smuggled some food from the cafeteria every day, or if not her, Shadow could just have sneaked into the school kitchen occasionally.

I will mention that Shadow had already learned that he liked sweets before that meeting, so it's not like Annie and Kat hadn't been giving him any food before then. But yeah, everything else you're saying is actually blowing my mind right now.
