What is wrong with Antimony's face in all of the latest episodes of Gunnerkrigg? Not one of them is left unmarred.

I agree completely...her face is pretty distracting in the recent episodes. I honestly don't know what the problem is.

I think the change you're noticing is that Tom is using thicker lines (so it appears to me), and he is drawing the bridge of her nose, whereas before "Ties", he did not.
Up to you to decide whether you like the change or not. For me so far, my favorite art era has been chapters 19-21. Of course that's going to vary from person to person, and Tom's going to draw what Tom likes.

Yeah, I agree with that, Casey. Tom does like going back and forth with the thicker/thinner lines, I guess we're headed towards one end of the flux. And while I too really liked the style in 19-21 as well, this is Tom's artwork, and I respect his decisions as an artist. Plus I mean, he's like a month ahead of this point. What's drawn is drawn

If only 3 out of 24 chapters have had decent artwork you guys are in for a world of disappointment.

I was afraid that would be how you would take that statement, but for myself, that isn't how I meant it. I was only highlighting the art style that I liked the -most-... which shouldn't be taken to mean that I disliked any of it. Heck I thought your art was just fine even in the very first chapters.
Example: I like all pie. There isn't any pie I wouldn't eat. But I like coconut cream pie most of all. For me Chs 19-21 were like coconut cream pie... but the whole comic is still varying types of delicious, sinful pie, which I will continue to eat to satisfy my Gunnerkrigg sweet tooth!

And actually, now that I've thought about it, I would also go so far to say that my level of enthusiasm for the art since Ch 21 isn't a distant second... it is only a VERY slight preference and it shouldn't be interpreted as thinking that any of the rest of it is in any way "bad". I think the current art is completely fantastic. I think that the art of a few chapters ago is -ever so slightly- more fantastic, but that's still such a minute distinction, and coming from a person who has re-read the entire comic possible more than anyone else so I've seen every single page an unimaginable number of times that I can make extremely minute distinctions in the changing art style. No I really don't think you have anything to worry about... the vast majority of us don't think you've "ruined" the comic by evolving your art style. This page for example is stunning.

D'oh, yes that's right. Tom, I hope you don't think that I be hatin' on ANY of your art. In all seriousness, I think that Gunnerkrigg is simply beautiful, and I highly recommend the dang thing to anyone who listens. I think Casey already said it best with the pie analogy, except that I'd have to change mine to pumpkin pie, because I'm allergic to coconuts, and pumpkin pie is infinitely better than some sort of pie that would kill me

Pumpkin pie IS pretty damn good. Oh and I forgot my mom's pecan pie. I would take that over coconut cream pie, but only when my mom makes it.

the only question here is, if you saw this page by itself, would you would be able to tell it was tom's?

I don't see where that's the only question here though. I think people are allowed to like certain things a little bit more than other things... even if they like them both well enough.
Seth, I'm guessing it's a nut thing? If it's any consolation, I don't like peanut butter pie? Hope that makes you feel better.

Sure, why not? Tom's art is pretty distinctive. I can tell most comic book artists illustrating the same series apart, although I don't always know their names, so it ends up something like 'hey, it's that artist from Superman in X-men!' PS coconut is not actually a nut.

PS capers are actually the pickled flower buds of the caper plant.

I completely love the art. I always have liked it, and it's only getting better. I don't think Annie's face has been "distracting" or "marred," and I honestly find it quite rude that the latter was even said. There is a difference between saying you don't care for something and being a total dick about it. I'm not saying that you're not allowed to not like it (that would be silly), but I guess it just rubs me the wrong way that you had to say it in such an ignorant manner.

Allyson if it is any consolation to you, "man" is the same user who posted another spammy thread, the contents of which I won't go into, that's since been removed from the forums. So between Tom and my2k, I think things won't get out of hand.

I think her face looks a lot better now. It's much more expressive, for one thing. (Most of the panels in this story have made heavy use of that, in fact, since she hasn't had much dialogue.)
I think the changes also make her look a bit older and more mature, which might be part of the intent.

Tom's art has always been awesome, even when Antimony's head was shaped like a rugby ball. It is your problem, not Tom's.

I think Annie's face change is simply representative of her getting older and going through puberty. She's also gotten taller, and her hair is different. Not only that, but I'm pretty sure her face changed a bit after the first summer as well.

All I can say is that I will be using Tom's work as references when I am motivated enough to take up drawing again.

I agree with wynne and idonotlikepeas. Annie's maturing, and well on her way to womanhood. That, and Tom's more evolved fluid drawing style (compare current Eglamore with far earlier one). Notice also how Tom has drawn some pages without frames. Something you don't see in earlier chapters. roboticelf: reiterating does not make efficiency achieved

P.S. only about a year has passed since Annie first came to the school. I think what you're seeing is not Annie maturing, but Tom's artwork maturing.

Some of you are crazy, the artwork lately has been cute as hell. I was wondering, does the artist have a sketch blog or livejournal or something like that?
