Augh, I can't believe I forgot to link this! Chapter 1 sneak preview, for your enjoyment. Of course we're always open to comments and suggestions, like the one on the video page already - I'm torn on whether or not to show the speech bubbles (I personally like it because I have a hard time following strictly audio information, but what do you guys think?) and I know it would be harder on the visual end to avoid them. I'm working on the rest of the audio for Chapter 1 as we speak and I dearly hope to have it up soon. I'm graduating next week so things are a tiny bit hectic.

If we have to remove the captions from every page the visuals side will become very difficult. Captions that are on flat, bold surfaces are easy enough to cover over, but removing any that cover a line e.g. even where a wall meets a ceiling would require drawing the line back in, and could you guarantee it would look any good? Some pages would also be downright impossible to remove captions from. For example, how would you remove the captions from pages like this? - www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=780 The captions are on top of smoke and Annie's hair, neither of which are at all easy to replicate without Photoshop or something similar, none of which I have, and which I'm not going to buy when leaving the captions in is easier and creates a better effect. As Miri said, not everyone can easily keep up with the audio, and having the text there remains true to the original medium. Plus I think it looks kind of neat. Kind of went on a bit there, sorry. That all being said, if someone does want to try making a captionless version go right ahead, if it's better we'll use it. Personally, however, I prefer the idea of having captions, and not just because there was enough chopping and faffing as it was without adding more work

I also would rather keep the captions, to make it easier to follow. At least for the dialogue. Maybe captions are less necessary for the narration, but it's a lot of work, as Ulysses said.

Even ignoring the amount of work required to remove the captions without ruining the video, I think that the captions allow for easier viewing. For instance, I was listening to just the audio of the preview, and I was wondering why there was a large pause between "attended school at..." and "Gunnerkrigg Court". Being able to read along with it meant that I was able to comprehend why the voice actors paused there.
