I would if I had a microphone :/ If you mange to get onto Skype, be sure to get one with a built in mike. A microphone with a built-in mic? I bet those are rare In all seriousness, we need as many people involved in this as possible, so feel free to join in. A half decent mic doesn't cost that much.

For vocal auditions, are you meant to put more emphasis on how you think it's meant to sound, or do them in a natural way?
Not sure if I've explained that properly, but it's basically 'How you'd naturally say it' vs 'How you're forcing yourself to make it sound'.

It really depends on the character you're auditioning for, I think. For some characters, a certain amount of "force" is almost required. But then on the other hand, some people have gotten great results from intentionally -not- forcing their voice, and in so doing gave their rendition of the character a whole different feel.
When in doubt, record it both ways. See which one you like better. And if you're still in doubt... submit them both. Some people submit more than one audition for the same role, to show various ways they can do the part. Since we vote on the person, and not the rendition, it allows people to see the flexibility that that actor could bring to the part.

I think do it how the character sounds in your head, but as natural as you can make it. For example, my audition for Donny was in a Scottish accent even though I'm not Scottish, but Donny is. I didn't do it in a crazy Billy Connolly voice though, because firstly, that's not how I imagine Donny talks, and secondly because it sounds very stupid when I do it. Don't force it, because it'll sound bad. Just naturally let their voice come out of your mouth, or at least how you hear their voice. Not everyone hears the same voices in their head.

Alright, then! I'll put in an audition for a person or two, soon. Just gotta get a bit of peace & quiet 'round the house.

I'd like a general update on how everyone is doing. Activity seems to have a waned a bit, probably due to school, work, and other aspects of life.

We're on hiatus for the time being, until Cake is finished moving in and can record regularly. I'll still accept parts from other people for later chapters, but it looks like a fair number of people are currently still busy with other things. Which is fine since the production schedule basically revolves around Cake.
Since you're asking, I assume you've got your music done for the first four chapters? If so, you can go ahead and send it to me.

I'm still trying to find time to actually write the stuff because I keep getting called out of the house before I can even make a temp track of the vocals so I can get the timing down. Hopefully, I'll find time today.

Hey. For some reason I seem to have lost all of my Skype contacts. I have had to re-add everyone back on my contact list so if you see a request just add me. I have already PMed Casey about it but I should probably give a heads up to everyone. I'm not sure what the problem was. They just disappeared. I'm not even certain whether it's just an issue on my end or not.

Do you have all your music done for Chapter 1? It seems I asked you that just over a month ago (3 posts ago) and I haven't gotten anything in my inbox. This project only moves as fast as the talent provides me with the pieces of the puzzle, so before you become sad about the lack of activity, make sure you've got your own activity completed.

Hi everyone, didn't really know where to post this so... yeah.. umm I was wondering if there's anything done yet, I mean, like, do you have any scene already voiced over? Because, well, I have to make this animatic for college, and I was thinking on doing it on a scene of GK and well, If you had anything recorded it'd be great, because... well... I wouldn't have to record anything myself and yeah, that'd be cool... (y) Thanks~

Hi Rita, and thanks for your interest.
We have several parts recorded, but no one complete chapter. I wouldn't be comfortable releasing what we already have recorded, but, if you contact me privately and let me know what scene you're thinking of doing for your project, I can put you in touch with the voice actors for that scene and you can see if they would be willing to record the lines for you as a side project.

Is there any intention to make the audio independant from the video? Because if so, that will require some extra dialogue and SFX engineering.

I think the idea is to make the audio seperately, yes, and if people have the time afterwards to attach it to a video. A video isn't really necessary though, people should easily be able to listen alongside reading the comic online, or reading the book. It would just be nice. Miri and I did start collecting frames to use in the video should we need them, but how far that went I don't know. I know I only have one chapter stored.

I went a bit crazy - I have even chapters through ten, as well as 15 and 16 (I was making audition vids and decided to continue). That's all I really have to add - the video portion is definitely an afterthought, but I don't think the audio was ever intended to stand completely alone. It's definitely a faithful reproduction and complement to the comic.

Despite whatever might have been talked about at the outset, it is my full intention to release these as YouTube videos with full audio and the panels in a synchronized slideshow format (like most people have done for their auditions).

This is completely unrelated to anything, but does Tom Siddell really speak Spanish, Polish, and French? (I didn't know where else to post this, sorry)

First of all, he doesn't speak Polish (he asked a friend to translate for him), and two, exactly what made you think it's a good idea to post this in a sub-forum obviously not devoted to the comic itself?

Actors to record and submit lines.

Whose lines are you still missing?
Like, major characters like Annie and Kat, or minor characters that could easily be recast?

Post by Casey on Feb 19, 2010 21:01:25 GMT
I'm missing Annie's lines from Chapter 1, and Annie, Anja, and half of Kat's lines from Chapter 2. I haven't looked past Ch 2 yet until I've got everything for the first two.
Cake sent me an email a while back saying she was having some rough times lately, and I haven't seen her here on the boards in a while. But given that this isn't a professional production, and that we all have other things going on in our lives as well, I would rather give her the benefit of the doubt. She's perfect for the role. If she were to tell me that she just can't do it, then I would reconsider the situation. But as I said, since this is a pretty low-key affair now, I'm not thinking about replacing anyone at this point.
Certainly if anyone is eager for things to happen, they could always go ahead and record their lines and send them in. I've always said that. They'll just be stored on my hard drive until we reach future chapters.

Yeah I remember working with you on that, but that folder is empty in my master files. I'll look on my laptop over the weekend, there was a period that I was doing most of my editing on that machine.

If you can't find them, I'll search through my old laptop and see if those still exist or I just imagined it all.
