Hey, wouldn't it be hilarious if Bugsy was perfectly fine, just napping while her students were expiring? Another page and still nobody even trying to sever those tendrils... If only someone had a tool that could cut stuff...

Okay first of all gorgeous art of Bugsy! And Annie finally got her name right! Second of all what do you mean they won't come out of the ether?? Why aren't we allowed to look in the ether with Annie? There's no chance that's actually some kind of fake Annie... faking?

Hey, wouldn't it be hilarious if Bugsy was perfectly fine, just napping while her students were expiring? That would be completely in character. Another page and still nobody even trying to sever those tendrils... If only someone had a tool that could cut stuff... We have yet to receive confirmation about that being a good idea. For all we know, the tendrils may very well be what's keeping those bodies alive and functioning, at least for the time being.

Not a big fan of how Bugsy's clothes are bunched where the tendrils hold the students. Look at the wrinkles around the torso and the pushed up sleeves. She used to have vines!

For all we know, the tendrils may very well be what's keeping those bodies alive and functioning, at least for the time being. They're dying anyway. Lavender may have died first because she was the weakest but the rest have been subject to the same drain. They're probably not far behind. Kat doesn't seem to be able to shed light on this; if Bugsy can't provide any tips and tricks then waiting would just burn time. Say they learn by experimenting that severing the tendrils causes instant death, what's the alternative except to do nothing? The Court isn't likely to shut the Star Ocean down even if Antimony calls Jan's dad (or whoever) and says that it's killing kids. Antimony's mostly human but partly etheric so I don't think she can survive a direct assault on the machines that're keeping it going when it's going at full blast (Antimony minus fire is unconscious Antimony, shortly followed by dead Antimony). Sure, yanking the tendrils off or having Renard chew through them might have unforeseen consequences but if Antimony uses the Tooth I think she's got a good shot at cutting the kids free whatever's going on. As I was writing this I guess Antimony could have Kat build a really big EMP bomb and teleport it over the Star Ocean machinery, but I dunno if that'd work...

Ninety seconds earlier Omega: * Bwips in* Okay guys, Annie's about to show up here and ask for help but the Court needs you to be unavailable! Just play dead! * Bwips out*Foley Students: Play dead? We got this. Ayilu: We so got this.

Is this implying that Shadow can't see these vines on rabbit?
Also Bugsy is brick house (old people reference)

If only someone had a tool that could cut stuff... You'd need like a tooth that could cut literally anything or something. But where would they find that inside a stuffed toy

What if the real reason they haven't exited the ether and back into their body is the courts memory wipe thing is being distorted and they are simply forgetting how to return

Wait wait wait—why is Snuffle tired? She wasn't converted into a Court body and so shouldn't be subjected to the drain, no? Another page and still nobody even trying to sever those tendrils... If only someone had a tool that could cut stuff... I wonder if severing those tendrils means freedom or insta-death.

Wow. Tom did a REALLY good job of making Bugsy look heartbreakingly pathetic in that panel. So she's either VERY dead, oooooor he's messing with us and she's somehow free of tendrils and just sleeping REEEAAALLLY hard like she always loves to do.

Bugsy looks somewhat like me in this panel, ha. (Although I don't nap when I teach, I do look like this when I'm grading...) I really hope she's not dead.

My gut reaction, especially given Annie's reaction, is that Bugsy is dead. Maybe Tom has gone full RR Martin on us, or he's showing us how dire the situation is by killing a popular character.
If she's not dead, that still leaves Lavender. If she's not dead, she's doing an exceptionally good job of faking it - no pulse, nothing in the ether.
Incidentally, it makes sense for the dramatic reveal, but it seems that Annie didn't see Bugsy in the ether when she checked up on Snuffle and Friend. (It's pronounced <Friend>, by the way.)
Annie needs to talk to Snuffle, or somebody in the ether, and find out if there's any negative side effects to just yanking out the vines, because one way or another, those vines are bad news.

What if the real reason they haven't exited the ether and back into their body is the courts memory wipe thing is being distorted and they are simply forgetting how to return Or maybe the vines are intended (by Coyote/Loup and/or the Court) to let the Foley kids transition back into Forest bodies if they want to, now that they're going to lose their home in the Court. Or maybe the distortion assists with astral as well as physical travel, and the missing souls have just wandered too far away for Annie to detect. They may not even have done it intentionally. If the distortion lets you teleport to places and people you're thinking about, what happens if you're obsessively doing research on space travel? Maybe their souls are off in the Star Ocean or elsewhere in space, not because the Court schemed to put them there, but because that's their current focus of interest. Maybe they've already beaten the Court to Planet X. Lotsa possibilities.

Is this implying that Shadow can't see these vines on rabbit? Also Bugsy is brick house (old people reference) The implication I'm getting is just that Shadow's a lil confused why they're so worried about the vines, not being privy to the fact someone seemingly died from them (Though correlation isn't causation and all that)

He's had a lot to digest already, what with recent robot revelations. The art for Bugsy is heartbreaking. This is shaping up to be one of the grimmest chapter's we've had.

What I wonder is how the distortion will affect Jones. Will she be unaffected? Will she be all F-ed up like the buildings?
Annie should think about Jones and travel to where she is.

What if the real reason they haven't exited the ether and back into their body is the courts memory wipe thing is being distorted and they are simply forgetting how to return It seems they are in the ether, tired, but don't want to come back, or just won't for reasons. What this seems to imply is, they don't know it's slowly draining them until they die, and something about the situation is keeping them there while it happens. Note that Annie said <Friend> "won't" come back. She didn't say "can't".

Also, it's worse than I originally thought: the Court has stolen Bugsy's blazer! And she's wearing a new dress. WHAT ELSE HAVE THEY TAKEN?

So them possibly saying they won't come back to me seems like they actually can't come back for some outside reason

I definitely assumed this was a fake-out and Bugsy is just napping, to the point where I thought her actually being dead or on the brink would be considered a fake-out fake-out. But with reading other reactions, now I'm not sure.

Ohhh, shiiii.... Wait wait wait—why is Snuffle tired? She wasn't converted into a Court body and so shouldn't be subjected to the drain, no? She could still be affected by the Star Ocean, if it's calibrated for "forest souls" or whatever, just maybe in a less direct way. Is this implying that Shadow can't see these vines on rabbit? Also Bugsy is brick house (old people reference) The implication I'm getting is just that Shadow's a lil confused why they're so worried about the vines, not being privy to the fact someone seemingly died from them (Though correlation isn't causation and all that) Although the only person confirmed dead has no vines on her, so as worrisome as the things are, I would have been worried much more if Friend hadn't had any vines on him. Okay first of all gorgeous art of Bugsy! And Annie finally got her name right! Second of all what do you mean they won't come out of the ether?? Why aren't we allowed to look in the ether with Annie? There's no chance that's actually some kind of fake Annie... faking? I still think that we are deliberately given the point of view of characters who cannot look into the Ether (Kat, Omega...) because Annie and Renard know something they don't.

My gut reaction, especially given Annie's reaction, is that Bugsy is dead. Well, maybe she is asleep. As in “so… tired”. She would not have transformed laptop, and Annie did not check pulse and body temperature yet. So, no way to tell. Maybe Tom has gone full RR Martin on us, or he's showing us how dire the situation is by killing a popular character. RR Martin? Annie needs to talk to Snuffle, or somebody in the ether, and find out if there's any negative side effects to just yanking out the vines, because one way or another, those vines are bad news. These are likely to be transformed laptops. As such, their only relevance could be that lost connection on inactivity indicates lack of input (for a long while).
