I think I speak for many when I say that someone ought to post some pictures of the book so we can see what it looks like in person. I'm curious what size it is, are the comics about the same size, or are they larger? I can't imagine them being smaller than they are on the web page.

I got an email this morning telling me that Amazon.com have shipped my copy of Orientation. It has to travel all the way to England, so it'll be a week or two before it gets here...

I got my copy of the book in today!! * tears of joy* I got it from the Barnes & Nobles near union square. The dust jacket was a little beat up around the edges (compared to the quality in comic book stores i've seen - most of those are shrink wrapped), but it was nice. I love the look of the book without the dust jacket too. I took pictures too and posted them on flickr for you guys that wanted to see!! by the way, this book also smells great. *sniff* Yum :9

I was in my local shop the other day, and I didn't see it, but then yesterday I saw the Mousegaurd RPG which was released by ASP on the same day! That annoyed me a little. Tomorrow I am going to order a copy through them.

Received a note from Amazon today that my copy has shipped. Probably some delay because I couldn't control myself and had to get half a dozen new titles. Expected date of arrival: Feb 11th.

Cheers for those pics auilix, I felt somewhat bad about paying around 30 euro for it, but that really does look like exquisite and well worth it and it's also close to 300 pages. Money well spent I'd say. Or waiting to be well spent I suppose... >_>

Looks lovely Well if you live in The Valley anywhere near Ventura Blvd, Earth 2 just ordered it the other day, thanks to me. So they'll be getting some copies pretty soon. Heh, when I told the clerk the troubles with delay, and he looked up the publisher to set up the order, he was all "oh, THOSE guys. Not surprised." One thing he was surprised about is that they're still in business Anyway, I'll post in here again when I get one in my hands. PS - that's a protip. If your comic shop doesn't have what you're looking for, you tell them to order it. Unlike Borders or B&N, they actually pay attention to what their customers want, instead of shoving 'must buys' at them.

Unlike Borders or B&N, they actually pay attention to what their customers want, instead of shoving 'must buys' at them. I am in no way supporting going to a corporate store... They suck on principle, and also (in terms of comics), they'll never be able to match the selection of any podunk tiny comic store. But hey, if life throws you gift cards, I say use 'em. But BTW - B&N will order it for you, they did for me. Also, I noticed the publisher is in NJ (where i live!). Wonder if I could go ransack their print studio or wherever they make it.... Tom, I'm taking it you wouldn't recommend this publisher to anyone else or have you had satisfactory service?

I found a hardcover copy of the book at a local 'Pop Culture Specialist' shop (a.k.a. comics and nerdy things) called 'Minotaur', and purchased it. Well, really, a friend got it for me, because I got him a Russian hat. This is off-topic. Point is, I have the book.
Er, but... Well, I'm not sure if this is just my copy or not, but pages 287 and 288 (online pages 289 and 290) are out of order. As in, 287 is online page 290 and 288 is online page 289. I'd hope this was just my copy, but the page numbers printed on the bottom appear to be in order, despite the content, so I suspect it is a printing error. Is there anywhere I can report this?
But! The rest of the book is absolutely lovely. It the colours are beautiful, and so is the front illustration. *hugs book* This is my new precious. So much so that I cannot even bring myself to doggy-ear it, despite this being my habit with most books. Also, it is very, very shiny. All in all, it is very good.

I ordered a copy of the book at pulp fiction here in Brisbane, Australia. So should get it in about 1.5 - 2 weeks. Looking forward to it.

I got my book from "Minotaur" in Melbourne, Australia today. I thought the shop name ties in quite nicely with the earlier chapters. I love it, its a nice book to have with a gorgeous jacket and the cover under is lovely also. The pages are clear and on good quality paper! A worthwhile investment!

About the page orders, is this common guys? I haven't actually checked it yet (as I just read through the whole series for the first time earlier this month and I was going to save it for later). Hopefully its just a rare misprint and not everyone in a certain part of the world got it with pages scrambled....

You are correct, two of the pages are out of order. This means all the books are junk. There is no way to fix it but you might be able to get your money back. Thanks for spotting it and letting me know. I might have seen it if I'd had a proof copy before printing.

I'll buy it anyway, Tom, I don't care. Is it really the case with all of the books printed? Can others confirm?

Too bad about the printing error, but I'll buy it anyway in 10 years or so we'll be holding on to a priceless first edition, complete with a printing error. =p

Yes indeed, my pages are out of order. And I suppose the press isn't planning on a second printing, am I right? If we can get our money back, is there also a chance that you can get all the extra copies from them and sell them yourself? I mean if they will refuse to keep distributing or shops to order them 'cause of the printing error, of course, unless you want box after box full of hardback misprints lying around your house. And it probably wouldn't be worth it unless you attend conventions frequently, or start promoting yourself full-time. Anyway, the book is still lovely, as far as I'm concerned. And if I can get money back, or a discount on buying another copy for a friend, as long as the money doesn't come from you, Tom, so much the better!

Sorry to hear the editors are not so great :/ They need to treat you better...

If you get your money back you will of course have to return the book. All books that aren't sold will be kept by the publisher and then I guess destroyed if they can't sell them. If the cost of the initial print run isn't met through sales then I might have to foot the bill myself, which would be very costly. The thing about the pages that are swapped though, is that it doesn't really mess the story up too much. I guess someone who hasn't read it on-line wouldn't notice (and really, nobody did notice). It might be best to just leave it as it is. The book is made, so I'd rather just focus on the next one.

oooohhhh.... a misprint. That means it's a collector's item!
I cannot speak for anyone else, but I do not see it as a problem. And maybe you can use this to negotiate better conditions for the next one. Because yes: you just wrote there's going to be a next one. Gwee!

I got my book today! It was a total surprise. I actually squealed. I got it from amazon.com, ordered ages ago, and I live in Wylie Texas near Dallas. It looks absolutely beautiful. Smaller and bigger than I expected. It's so thick. No wonder it takes forever to read through the archives when I get the urge. I thought the pages would be larger cuz' I see them large on my comp screen, but it looks perfect. Not hard to read or anything. The only white pages I see are a couple of sketch pages in the very back. But they make white pens for autographs. There are a few blank black pages in the front.

Did the publisher give you any details at all Tom? It seems like we learn more about how bad their communication is with every passing day.
What I would like to know is just how many books are in this print run, did they at least tell you that?

Got my copy today from Amazon. It's absolutely wonderful Tom, despite the page mix up, and it really doesn't mess the story up at all, so no worries there. Can't wait for the next one. I think the print for the first page of the Spacemonauts chapter came out especially nice (with a white border, nice contrast to the rest of the book!), and it was great to sit down and read through the whole first year again. I'd just like to say that I really like the way your style has developed, and I think the book showcases it beautifully.
Thanks again!

Got my copy just now at a local comic shop in Boston (Union Square Comics). It looks beautiful. The owner said something to effect that he hadn't realized how nice it was, and would have to buy a copy for himself. Thank you, Tom. I'm going to read this to my kids.
And no, the misprint doesn't hurt things at all.

Ah yes, I picked up my copy right after you moved away from under the bookshelf, where you were sitting and making quite the racket (Although seeing as it was over the Gunnerkrigg book, thats ok) I guess that means the book was a sell-out in Melbourne. Tom! You have now reached Best-Seller-International-Fame!

... Sorry for making the racket. Also, O.o as to there being another person getting the Gunners book right behind me on the same day.
And as if I'm going to return the PRECIOUS because of a tiny misprint. I know the order, and if anyone else wants to read it, I'll tell them the correct order, so it's not a big deal. I do think the publisher should be informed, though, just in case there are enough of us fans, or will be enough fans later, to warrant a second run.
Also, another book? Yee! *slaps herself* Sorry. Fangirl moment.
