You can't keep a good man down. Or a bad dog. Or a dab god. Not surprised, but if you'd asked me ten comics back if we'd see Coyote again this soon I'd have said probably not.

So, it *was* Coyote having the last laugh! I can haz cookies?
... although that was... not disturbing at all.
(Oh, Lana? Have you met...?)

I only just caught up with the comic a few hours, and was wondering why that HA felt coyote-ish...

If Coyote does all of this and jumps back in there, it becomes something like a hostage situation (certainly from Lana and Loup's perspectives).
Loup would essentially die every time Coyote decides to jack-in-the-box, and having failed to get rid of him via syncretism, his desire to strike down Coyote would be directly at odds with his aversion to death.
(That's another way that Coyote has him beat – Coyote embraces inexistence and so bends around it, while Loup is brittle with his fear of death/irrelevance).
Either Loup is as good as dead (no climbing back in the "box") or his sense of realness/autonomy has been felled just as insultingly as it happened to Ysengrin, who he so disdained.

Imagine if at the very ending everyone yells "Ha!" and Coyote's real endgame was to propagate more of himself like some Lovecraftian chaos entity.

On the last comic, I said that I didn't expect an immediate return of Coyote, but I was now wondering when it would happen because the story had effectively been acted out.
So, as per Coyote's tendency, he as proven me wrong.

I suspect the current situation was *not* what Coyote was expecting at all. Which is why Coyote is laughing so hard

Lana starts dating Coyote < Lana shoves Coyote back into Jerrek with the pointy side of a broom.

Allergies, am I right? Looking forward to the next chapter. Imagine if at the very ending everyone yells "Ha!" and Coyote's real endgame was to propagate more of himself like some Lovecraftian chaos entity. That idea excites far more than it should. I think I'd read the crap out of that.

finally make Loup/Jerek more relatable and almost likable: HAH, rugpull it's Coyote again! More like "HAH, *hairball* it's Coyote again!"
That look on Jerrek's face in the first panel really sells it. I can almost hear his thoughts: gosh golly I almost horked up a god, how embarassing would that have bee...*KAFF*

So, I'm thinking, not only is Loup (temporarily?) dead, but Jerrek, or whatever he is without Loup inside of him, is also dead. And what a way to go, death by reverse choking.

Sort of feel bad that Lana might be about to lose her boyfriend. Highly doubt un-loup'd Coyote is going to have half as much interest in her.

Is Coyote's plan still in effect? Or is he laughing at how surprising things are? Coyote actually looks a bit deranged to me in the last panel. Also, bursting out of Jerrek's mouth like that seems sort of out of character. What if he has gone insane? Wouldn't it be quite a twist if Annie had to kill him (them) because of Coyote losing it, rather than because of Loup being a dick? Just a thought... Even though it seems slightly dark for Tom, I wouldn't rule it out - she still has Chekov's tooth-knife and all.
Part of why I'm thinking this way is because of how different this appears compared to previous events. Jerrek looks quite distressed in the third panel - Coyote usually doesn't cause pain. He's manifesting in huge, intimidating mode. And perhaps most importantly, he's doing it in daylight, in public, and in the court! Maybe things are ok and going according to plan, but this feels different to me. No subtlety, no whispering of secrets (yet), and right in front of Lana so she can see her boyfriend being ripped open.
I can't wait to see what happens next!

But where's Ysengrin?
Here's the thing: Jerrek is a projection/off-shoot... of a god... that's made from the combination of two gods. He's a couple of generations removed from his source material, and thus prone to etheric mutation.
If Coyote exits Jerrek, does that leave Jerrek as mostly Ysengrin? Therefore... is this Ysengrin's long-suppressed dream of being human (given the humanoid nature of his wood body)?
AND, if it leaves Ysengrin as human, or humanoid... It's almost a perverse fulfillment of Reynard's desire to be human to be close to Surma.
If JerrekYsengrin starts dating Antimony... hoo boy.

half convinced coyote will claim this was all a ruse to make wolfdaddy(?!) stop being a sadsack by becoming human rather than stay salty in the forest

first of all : oh thank god.
second of all : i'm not celebrating yet. i'm still very much thinking that this is one of coyote's pre-recorded messages or temporary apparitions. i don't know why. i think i'm thinking of loup's message in the tunnels and thinking something similar ? but also, this is very dramatic right now and unfortnuately in the past few years we've had a few dramatic cliffhangers get instantly undermined. if this actually was jerrek dying or coyote forcing annie to do something drastic i'd be... very, very surprised.
but also this makes a lot of sense. of course coyote wouldn't show back up until jerrek made amends and found actual community and admitted, to someone, out in the open, that him, loup, the big bad villain, fell in love and was happy. the jerrek transformation/the lesson loup was supposed to learn/teach wouldn't be complete before that.

Jerrick/Loup: Made me realize I was in love. Annie: Well, that's wonderful. This is so unexpectedly far off Coyote's script that he couldn't help put laugh out loud. You know how, when something is really hilarious, you kind of lose yourself for a moment. Coyote lost focus. That surprised him even more, and he totally lost control.
