Ah yes. The tooth is part of Coyote, so Loup would likely get another visitation if they gave it back.
Now I'm wondering what would happen if Loup got Renard's body borrowing back?

Now to see if all that character development has allowed Annie to reach the emotional maturity needed to stab and murder a threat to her safety despite that threat begging, being trapped in a cage and maybe being in love. It's something I've always struggled with, but I have a lot of faith in violent over reactions.

Wow Loup looks... genuinely scared. Not something you see every day.
And it is rather smart of him to choose ignorance instead of knowledge of a plan that might result in his death. But I wonder if this is already a self-fulfilling prophecy? Honestly I wouldn't want it to be the case.
And man, I feel bad for Annie. I can't imagine her ever fully accepting Loup. To her, he must still be a sick amalgamation of her two dear friends, yet a completely new and alien being that replaced the ones she was happy together with. I know it was Ysengrin who killed Coyote, but Loup is still a living symbol of all the chaos and catastrophic changes that came around.
You can even say that the moment of Loup's birth is the moment of Annie's childhood ending. And it may be the hardest thing to forgive there.
Also, Annie and Kat are absolutely badass here~

Brandishing the dagger, Annie seemingly steps around Lana and demands explanations from the caged Jerrek, who is clearly afraid of the tooth. He pleads with Annie that he's given up on Coyote's plan and no longer wants the thing back. Annie looks astonished and holds the dagger away at this point.
Renard, however, rightly states that they have no reason to believe anything Loup says. In reply, Jerrek only restates that he came here to bring them news that he thought would help them.
Which should give them pause – he didn't have to come to them. He could have stayed hidden. He didn't have to reveal that he was Loup. He thought Robot had upheld his end of the deal and Annie/Kat/Renard didn't know any of this. So ... what should they do?

Completely missed that typo on first read, proud to say I did get it right away on the second. 3am upadate time probably played a role.

This is a good point in the story to remember that Ysengrin suffered decades of (narcissistic?) abuse and manipulation by Coyote. There's little wonder Ysengrin coveted Coyote's power and reimagined himself with it into his idealized form, one who would act how a proper canine god should act. Part of the reason (perhaps the main reason) that Jerrek is cowering right now is The Tooth contains not just power and memories but a continuation of that manipulation and abuse, which will probably end in his death. |

Can't agree more. Coyote was indeed a cruel guy. But being a god his moral compass could be different from ours as well. Perhaps he didn't bear any ill will towards Ysengrin or Loup and it's all just him showing his care in a very VERY warped sense. And as we can see Loup being scared of Coyote and his plan, I also think that Loup might be afraid of becoming like Coyote himself—scared of being a god. It's no good being omniscient and omnipotent because, just like Coyote, he would be consumed with the absolute boredom of his existence. And what's more, he could simply stop caring about anything, including Lana, and I'm sure Loup doesn't want that. |

These are difficult times that call for difficult decisions. But I hope Annie still remembers that she's supposed to be a diplomat. Maybe he didn't mean death literally, but means for Loup to straight up cease existing. Not that I think that, just that it would be more likely, in my veiw. It just feels like a very generous read of Coyete, who is as close to a big bad as this comic has. As pyradonis has said, Coyote is the one responsible for all this. Because of how fun Coyete was and because we didnt(dont?) have the full picture of his plot, it's easy to forget that everything Loup has done is a direct result of Coyetes master plan. He would be responsible even if he hadn't been long term planting totems and directly pulling the strings with memory related abuse. Now that I'm thinking on it, every act of kindness by Coyete has also furthered his plot. I bet they were manipulations above anything else. If it turns out Coyete plan was just to let Loup do whatever, I'll be very disappointed. This is also kind of a reply to your other post, just not directly. |

Well, perhaps it could be a part of Coyote's plan for Loup to do whatever because we still have no idea what goals could he possibly pursue by all of this. Perhaps he wanted to destroy the status quo between the Court and the Forest but the Court was always on the losing side in terms of sheer power and was practically at his mercy at all times so he could ravage it himself. Or he thought that this whole story would be much more interesting without him as an actor. He likes to observe things after all. I think there was something Loup could do what Coyote wasn't able to. The only question is what is that thing exactly. And actually I'm not sure that stealing Ysengrins memories was a vile type manipulation. He was asking him the same question over and over again and the answer was the same every time. Maybe he was expecting some kind of a change and when he was done waiting he decided that Ysengrin needs a push towards it. For better or worse. And about Loup's death too. Coyote said that Loup will die once he knows Coyotes plan but he didn't say he will die this instant. And he didn't say Loup would be killed either. Loup might cease existing as a god and become human and then he would be able to die of old age unlike a gog he is now. Or he might split back into Ysengrin and Jerrek and Coyote what would mean "death" as well. |

I'm not sure what would happen but I think the star ocean (adjusted to suck Coyote power) should be able to eat it if someone threw it in far enough, though I'm not sure how far that would be. If it doesn't go far enough, I guess nothing would happen. It'd sink. Maybe it'd perpetually produce a small amount of oxygen and hydrogen from the water coming into contact with the edge? |
