Well if there shall be no banner, then whoever makes the entry could still use an empty/transparent banner like this: nkdev.de/misc/empty.gif.. to suppress the "missing or broken image image" icon many browsers will display when no banner exists.

I kind of like the fact that it has no banner, description or incentive. If I went out of my way to make an incentive sketch/art every month then people will just be voting to see the picture, not because they like the comic. I agree about the incentive. A banner, however, serves as an example of your art, and therefore as an ad to those people looking at TWC to find comics they are interested in. Showing good art is more effective then simply drawing attention to your comic by peculiarity, IMO. As for a description, on one hand, its absence may attract more attention to the comic, particularly when it is not in the top 10. On the other hand, its presence may attract people who are looking for web comics that follow a specific mold, such as people who enjoy mythology and fantasy. So it could go either way.

We're just a tiny margin away from climbing up a spot. 17 votes to number 7!

And we're there! This is so cool.
Can we make it to #6 by the end of the month? Only 1700 votes...

1437 votes left! We have five days- let's maximise our votes.
Also, weren't we saying something about voting early on the first day of next month? We ought to plan for that to jump up the chart quickly.

That's going to be tricky as everyone's going to be partying. But perhaps the next few days afterwards.

The fact that we're up partying means we can log a vote or three before we sleep. I'm in!
1505 to the next spot.

1233 votes left, and we're up against Twisted Kaiju Theater instead of Girl Genius (kind of a relief, since I like Girl Genius).

Yeah, I love Girl Genius too, but that one is consistently among the top 10. GC isn't, and I think it needs the spotlight more at the moment.

period Dec 1 - Dec 17: 4,132 votes = 243.06 votes a day
period Dec 18 - Dec 30:
6,595 votes = 507 votes a day.
So it looks like GC is building up a new audience. If voting stays at 500 votes a day, by the end of January we'll have 15,500 votes, which would bring us at #4 if the current votes are a good indication of the various fan-bases. Because GC is relatively new on this list, it is fair to assume that the current fan base will only increase.
So the new year's resolution for all Gunners shall be to keep GC in the top 5 during 2009!

Girl Genius has a vast fanbase that will keep it there until the end of time -- you see, TWC is really a popularity contest -- and Gunnerkrigg needs all the support it can get.

Left '08 #7, entered '09 #4. With 2 votes to #1's 3.
EDIT: #2/#3 with 3 votes.
EDIT2: #5 and I just realised there's one not-actually-a-comic on the rankings. What. The. Toot.

Come on guys! Let's show those people a real web-comic, and none of that glorified niche pornography.
Edit: By the way what the hell is with that "totally valid web-comic!" stuff?

Is it just me, or are the webcomics that are below GC in the top ten far more worthy of the top ten than all of the webcomics above GC (save for The Phoenix Requiem)?

I think Goblins has a fair ranking, considering its plot. The others I haven't read (aside from PR), so I can't really declare a clear opinion aside from the art and the blurbs.
Apart from that, 278 votes left!

Well, I don't know what Twisted Kaiju Theater is, and I should know better than Judging a book by its cover, but from the banner, it looks like some low-quality surrealist erotic Poser comic.

The Phoenix Requiem is pretty good, I've only read volume one, but so far it seems like a fairly well done story. The illustrations are wonderful, but I find that I just don't feel as attached to the characters or the story as much as I do with Gunnerkrigg Court. From what I have seen of Twisted Kaiju theatre, it mostly has to do with a foul-mouthed Godzilla toy and Bionicle action-figure. Not all that interesting.
I'm not even gonna touch Cru the Dwarf or I fear that WoW will forever be soiled in my mind.

Cru the Dwarf is pretty meh. I imagine it gets most of its votes due to the nudie vote incentives.
I discovered Phoenix Req literally just before it started, so I've been with it for a while. I like Goblins, Girl Genius, Marry Me, and Flipside too. But none as much as GC!

Hrm, I think GC is kind of getting lost, bein' all tiny letters in that deluge of fancy banners. I wish Tom would let us have one. Hey Pappy Tom, can we can we can we? Of course I have no idea how we'd get it up there. We'd find a way.
