Janet's non-invitation a non-accident, as theorized. Omega also less than perfect. [edit] Aata appears to be suggesting that the non-inclusion "accident" is the result of an Omega prediction, if I read that correctly. [/edit]

Hmm, was Omega never perfect, or as someone been tinkering with it?
Or have recent etheric events thrown it's predictions way off course?

It appears that Aata's saying that Omega prediction inaccuracy is now leading the Court to make mistakes... and because of that Jan's lack of invitation may be an actual mistake as opposed to some monkey-shines... but because of the way he's wording things there is some room for interpretation.
[edit] For example, it may be that the Court is in chaos because of Omega's predictions being apparently off (as well as the whole evac thing) to the point Aata is no longer confident of the Court's ability to even deliver a frickin' invitation successfully. [/edit]

Hope this line of conversation leads someone to ask about, or reveal, how long it's been throwing inaccuracies. If only to help us pick out what might have thrown it off.

Do you know what is weird? That Aata's glass in yesterday comic was less than half full but in today comic looks almost full. A mistake? Or a hint of some kind? (probably a mistake).

[/edit] Speaking of delivering an invitation successfully, I'll point out that in the British Isles it is customary manners to invite someone you are conversing with to sit down at your table at least while you are talking. Here in rural Ireland you even offer to get them "something", which is usually politely declined if the conversation isn't a social or extended one. But it feels slightly hostile (or at best a little disrespectful) that the girls were left standing while Aata explains. As for the Omega device, it can truly be infallible only if it is at minimum a one-to-one full scale quantum model of the Gunnerkrigg "dimension". The experiments Tony participated in suggest that in some sense it was. I can only add that what caused the Omega processes to go off piste was the presence and will of Etheric beings, and if the Court ninnies can't control even for that, their attempt to announce to the world that "you can't tell US what to do" and run away from home is doomed. It isn't so much "less than perfect" as it is less than adequate.

Two frames earlier the glass is practically empty. Now that he is no longer constrained from using powers, Aata is showing off, heh. Punctuating "strangeness", maybe.

So Aata suggests that as far as he knew (which seems to be a lot, as their former leader) the Shadow Men had not been long-term misleading Llanwellyn about their intention to extend an invitation to Janet, and their decision to exclude her must be recent. We've had previous indications that Omega is recently not quite as infallible as the Court has believed it to be. Wonder what threw it off, and whether it's deliberate sabotage, the machine gaining sentience through the ether... Or maybe triggered by a large, unpredictable etheric event, such as a trickster god deciding to let his loyal general kill him and combine them into a new chaos entity. Or, of course, the machine was never really infallible, and is just beginning to reveal cracks that were always there.

So, is the answer «circular logic» or «manipulating procedural outcomes»? Place your bets, ladies, gentlemen and fellow chthonic monstrosities! Aw yiss my man Tony been up to some spreadsheet sabotage. As in, their conspiracy is essentially a project piggybacking on the grand Court exodus project? «…a flea hath smaller fleas that on him prey; and these have smaller still to bite 'em; and so proceed ad infinitum»

sure blame the machine my guess is that it was accurate until the Coyote creating Loup thing If there's still the belief that time shenanigans like Loup doubling Annie and Kat's adventures with the Norns created some alternative dimensions, it's possible the Omega device is predicting the events of ANOTHER timeline...

Do you know what is weird? That Aata's glass in yesterday comic was less than half full but in today comic looks almost full. A mistake? Or a hint of some kind? (probably a mistake). Didn't you read the comic, Aata just said the Court doesn't make mistakes. Jokes aside, I'm a bit confused, as within the same page he seems to say that the Court doesn't make mistakes thanks to the Omega Device... which is inaccurate. Not to mention that he was kicked out of the Shadow Men after the Court made a colossal mistake... Thanks to an inaccurate prediction... It appears that Aata's saying that Omega prediction inaccuracy is now leading the Court to make mistakes... and because of that Jan's lack of invitation may be an actual mistake as opposed to some monkey-shines... but because of the way he's wording things there is some room for interpretation. But it feels slightly hostile (or at best a little disrespectful) that the girls were left standing while Aata explains. I'd like to point out that we got into this scene in medias res, as they were already talking. Could very well be that the girls simply declined the offer of sitting down earlier.

I wonder whether this is all a case of "the Court put blind faith in a machine" - increasingly letting the Omega Device do all the thinking for them, without questioning it. So much so that they've become rusty in thinking for themselves.

If the early Court asked an early Omega Device, to make the Court more perfect, I wonder if Omega would decide to send some Court "assets" to a penal colony. Leaving Janet off wouldn't be a mistake, but an indication that Janet is a good apple.
Considering what Coyote has said, I doubt all that though.

In panel 4 on this page, Arizona suddenly blushes. Do we know why? The conversation at the time was about getting rid of the ether and Coyote arriving - I'm not sure her blush is related to that. Maybe it was more personal, like a reaction to Aata giving her a nice cocktail?
Here Aata discloses that "they" are wearing special protective suits to prevent memories from forming. "They" supposedly have a planet uncontaminated by the ether, where the Court plans to emigrate. But do we know who "they" are and how this came about? It all really seems to be based on etheric technology - either stuff powered by the ether or stuff created using the ether. What are "they" if not etheric creatures? Like the ones that tricked Tony, maybe? This certainly seems like a grand scam here!
Also, same page, Aata says it works. But how does he know? Did he go there and return? Did someone else that he knows? Or is this just faith, or trust in what he's been told?
Arizona collected herself by the next time we saw her, and seems her usual professional self. So either it was caused by the topic changes, or more likely, because it was a reaction to Aata paying attention to her like that. Awww.
Hopefully Evil Buddha will keep talking about Omega now that the topic has come up. Maybe not evil, maybe he just bought into the party line, but he certainly has gone along with a lot of actions that had a lot of potential to harm people (or other etheric entities).
What I'm really wondering about, though, is this: Where is Loup right now? He's interested in monitoring Annie for sure - do you think he could pass up eavesdropping on this conversation? I bet he's hanging out nearby with his wolfie ears out.

Annie mentions to Kat that she said Llanwellyn was there – if her memory of him hasn't been erased, he must not have gone to the new world yet, or so my theory goes.
Aata interjects, saying that it sounds as if Llanwellyn's behavior was very embarrassing for the new head of the Shadow Men. This coming from the previous head of the Shadow Men, who may not particularly like having been replaced.
Shell just humphs. But Aata says that Janet should've been invited, and in the past that wouldn't have been a mistake, because the Court doesn't make mistakes due to the Omega Device. However, it's been less accurate recently.
The way he says this, it's just feeling quite certain that he was behind Janet's omission. Either that, or (unlikely) Shell did it and he knows. Goodness, such vengeful behavior from a near-bodhisattva. Perhaps he's been more corrupted by the Court than he would care to admit.

I wonder if the (apparent) connection between the Omega device and Zeta+Gamma will ever pay off.
Is Omega really a device? Or a "person" (much like Zimmy is a person) ?

Every mention seems to imply it is a machine, but it may be powered by people like Zimmy... maybe that's how they solve the "the computer would need to be far bigger than the actual universe" problem, by making it a partially etheric device fueled by human sacrifice... sort of like the Golden Throne in Warhammer 40K, but it crunches numbers instead of keeping the God-Emperor alive...

Still think the point of divergence is that Annie survived her fall. My first instinct is to say that yeah, interference from a parallel timeline's future would mess all the predictions, but on the other hand... if the first mistake Omega made was to fail to predict Annie's survival under suspicious circunstances, wouldn't that have marked her with a gigantic red flag? Like, shouldn't the Court's Inner Circle be like "all the problems started with Antimony Carver... maybe erasing her will set everything back to its correct course...".

I suspect that the Court saw a few problems with killing Annie. One would be the prospect of Reynardine being free and going on a body-possessing rampage. (I doubt he'd actually have done that, but the Court would certainly suspect the worst of him.) And, once Coyote took an interest in Annie, the prospect of his getting angry if something dreadful happened to her and retaliating - and no convenient tool to threaten Antony into doing what they wanted him to do, and so on.

Still think the point of divergence is that Annie survived her fall. Yessss... What if they are now living in a divergent timeline, but Omega's initial conditions were set in the old timeline? That would explain why it's getting less accurate! If it can't incorporate new observations into its predictions properly, well first of all, that means it's running a bad algorithm, but also it means that it isn't going to be able to adapt and will get worse (and more frantic?) as time goes along.
