I'm not convinced yet that they're using that term for themselves. Because of the font, we can't tell whether that's capitalized. It's in bold, but that just could be vocal emphasis because they're contradicting the Seraph. They could simply be saying that they're new people in a general sense, not that they're called the New People.
In my headcanon I'm going to continue calling them androids until a reasonably clear canon alternative makes itself known.
While I'll admit that it's kind of inaccurate, I do still prefer "androids" over "New People," mostly because it's both very distinct and very familiar. "New People" just seems kind of vague and non-intuitive to me, whereas "androids" is an old term which lots of people already know, and which fits the current situation at least moderately well. They're beings who look more or less exactly like humans, but their bodies were artificially grown and their minds were artificially programmed onto a computer chip (and then transferred to a semi-organic brain). The whole "not actually robots" thing seems like a bit of an abstract philosophical point, that only came into play rather late in the game; I seem to recall that for most of the length of this project, Kat considered her work to just be building a new kind of robot. So, I'm of the opinion that they're close enough to androids that we can call them that, at least for now.
...also, "androids" just sounds cooler. So sue me.
