So it's confirmed Anja will be involved in whatever's coming. Given that the bird is almost certainly going to be sent back in time, I wonder if the next chapter will shed some light on these few pages.

Are you CLEARLY suggesting that Anja is no more that KAT HERSELF SENT BACK IN TIME TOGETHER WITH THE TICTOCS??? But yeah, could be relevant. I always just assumed it had something to do with "when you start showing aptitude to something, the Court always wants to get involved".

I was thinking more along the lines of a realization that "OH! All those cryptic messages they left were from me!" Or something.

Anja is getting older, too. I love those details

Surprised that Annie was referring to Anja separate from Donnie as if Donnie wouldn't be equally as concerned about his daughter (and also helpful with the tictoc) but there you have it.

Are we subverting the Trope of "Adults are useless"? Again? This is good! I am a parent, and I approve this

I think it's still too early to comment on the level of Donny's concern. Him and Anja have ways of working together that are not obvious to the eye.

Anja is the one who built the first version of the etheric computer, and is not only a scientist but also a witch, so the best person to help with breaking the space time continuum (and not just a parent who'd worry about her daughter). It's a matter of specialty, just like Anthony was the right person to help with the building of a body because of his biology / medical background. It's obvious that telling Kat's mom also means telling Kat's dad and that he will help where he can.

Given they're going back to the seaside villiage, odds are in favour of Anja, with Tony in second. The girls going to their parents for help? Pft, what comic have YOU been reading?! Very glad to be proved wrong! But well done everyone who picked Anja on Wednesday

"What, no guesses?"

The different style Tom is using to draw the Tic Toc compared to the rest of the page is still quite stark. There is some shadowing on the rest of the page, but nothing like the Tic Toc.

Well, it was Anja after all. I guess Annie did not mean to say there was only one other person who would be concerned about Kat's well-being, but only one who (in her opinion) would also be able to significantly help. "OK. Mom. Stop me if you've heard this one before. What's green, ticks like a clock, and travels through time to save a little girl, but inadvertently starts a war between the Forest and the Court through 70 chapters of hijinks? "Mom...? "What, no guesses?" Come on, if you blame the Tic-toc for starting the war (can it even be called a war?), then you could equally blame almost every character in the comic, starting with Annie, Shadow 2, Robot and that teacher who wouldn't listen to Annie in chapter 1.
EDIT: Where's the picture from the title page?! Meemeemeemee!

Let's not forget, also, that the Court and the Forest had been having problems getting along even before the events in Chapter One - it was the kind of conflict where the two sides couldn't get at each other, which only made the hatred and distrust ferment all the more.

Then again, Coyotes plan may be less of a course meal and more potluck. With temporal shenanigans afoot, I wonder if Kat and young Anya might end up being Tic-Tok pen pals? That could mean more young GC flashbacks, and interesting timey-wimey dilemmas.

Right. So... who else expects this to go completely ficus-shaped? Or something on par with Laser Cow Lesson? "It's... about the birds." - "... and the... um... bees?" "No." Indeed, it's " de birds und de veasles".

I have no idea what you mean with ficus-shaped, but I am expecting something on par with the chapter "Get Lost", i.e. a chapter dedicated to a flashback via Anja explaining the situation, which brings up the points madjack talked about.

Sure, but Annie was the one who broke the stalemate by removing the one thing (Jeanne) preventing each side from attacking each other directly. And if the Tic toc didn't save Annie then the stalemate would have persisted And if Shadow 2 hadn't followed Annie, she wouldn't have pieced Robot's body back together, and wouldn't have gone onto the bridge when Robot returned, hadn't fallen down and met Jeanne, or discovered Jeanne's shrine (the door to which was opened by Robot). If Robot had decided to immediately return to the Court, Ysengrin could not have planted the seed into him and Annie wouldn't have gone onto the bridge and [see above]. If that teacher would have believed Annie, Shadow 2 might have been brought to the Forest by other means and Robot would have never been reactivated and [see above]. If Renard would have been more polite, Annie wouldn't have forbidden him to speak and he could have kept her from going onto the bridge and [see above]. If Anja hadn't given Kat the key to the old laboratory, Annie wouldn't have found Jeanne's shrine. If Coyote hadn't been playing his game with Ysengrin, Loup would have never sprung into being and attacked the Court. If the psychopomps hadn't wanted Annie to do their job and bring Jeanne into the Ether, and hadn't pushed her into this direction, she might have never succeeded in actually doing it. And so on and so on. Blaming all of this on the Tic-toc's existence is completely arbitrary.

...are you, by any chance, a dedicated part of the Lackadaisy fanbase? Because unless I miss my guess, that particular turn of phrase literally ONLY makes sense in the context of this old mini-comic (and even then, it only sort of makes sense, in an intuitive kind of way).
If so, a word of advice: when making references(/memes) that specific & unrelated to Gunnerkrigg, always remember to include links! There tends to be a fair bit of overlap between the fanbases of independent webcomics like these, but the vast majority of people are going to be very confused.

Huh. See, my mind went to Schlock Mercenary (though that's a similarly obscure and doesn't-quite-fit reference). It might just be because going pear-shaped is the usual expression, and figs are kind of shaped like pears??

Annie's actions broke the stalemate - but it's possible that the consequences might lead to real peace, rather than the counterfeit peace (more the absence of fighting) that had been reigning before Chapter One. There's obviously a long way to go (much of the work hasn't begun yet), but we can hope that, by the end, the Court and the Forest will both confront their own problems (for the Court, its deviousness, its willingness to take an "ends justify the means" approach, its arrogance towards the forest-folk, for the Forest, its violence and anger). Something which could lead to real peace between them, rather than another counterfeit peace that Jeanne brought about, which left the cause of the contention between the two peoples unaddressed and boiling beneath the surface.
