Very curious to what discovery Kat made! Also glad Kat decided to also share this with the Annies.

Maybe Annie isn't the only one talking to herself?

Uh oh, here comes the machine to break reality. Maybe Annie isn't the only one talking to herself? oh I like that idea, she's trapped a Kat from another dimension somehow?

Kat's blocking the area to the right of the door so I'm not absolutely certain but I believe this is the door that she didn't want them going through before. I guess that means that Art and Julie weren't in there getting it on, Kat didn't want them to see the machine (or experiment or whatever). The Antimonies aren't that technically astute, though. That should mean that there's something obvious about it that they'd find disturbing. Maybe it's a window into the ether where they can see Antimony Prime happily living her life. Or maybe Kat's just thoughtlessly overestimating them and whatever it is it's inoffensive and/or harmless looking at a glance.

I've been building something... and now we have four Annies.

She might also be building a replacement Annie, using the same technique as she uses to create the new bodies for the robots. I could see her thinking "both these Annies may leave someday, but I don't want to be without Annie..." and deciding to do that. Perhaps she's planning to basically clone one of the Annies' mind/personality into it.
If Paz found out, that could explain the argument as well, with Paz feeling like Kat cares less about her than she does about Annie.

Maybe Annie isn't the only one talking to herself? The "twins" from Bioshock Infinite come to mind.

The real Annie died in the ravine or something and Kat found her corpse and has been working to reconstruct it as zombie android. Or something like that.

What would be really funny is if Kat built a machine to determine who was the correct version of themselves and it keeps saying that nobody is.

Real Annie's still stuck in the arrow maze. Kat's machinations split off a shadow Annie, and Loup split them again. Fannie and Courtney are a bit like the fairy shell bodies. Arbitrator adjustment now means Kat can't release real Annie.

Tommmmmm! Must you torture us so? The weekend(and the wait) seems so bitter, now. When she said "discovery", I was thinking about the chapter title page, and maybe some old photos aren't showing their remembered past. But, "building something"? I get the feeling, it's not a Loup pinata.

It's an antimony crucible, meant to melt them down and forge one, canonical antimony.

Well, we have all weekend to figure out what Kat built. I'm still wondering about that photo/ picture from the Title Page. Usually that ends up there. One possibility would be a shrine to Annie, or at least Kat has that photo on the wall somewhere. Someone mentioned time travel, and that would be fun. Kat sends them "back" and that means Back to The Past, in body and/ or soul. That's why Annie looks so awkward in the photo; she's Future Annie stuck in Young Annie's body. I still hold to the idea that this Kat and the two Annies belong to different, alternate universes. Which means that this Kat will have to say goodbye to both Annies. Or she's already pulled her Annie back. Now, the question is, who belongs in this universe? Is one of the Annies the "real" Annie, and this is an alternate universe Kat. Or is Kat the "real" Kat and both of these Annies belong somewhere else?

KAT: "Now take a look at this. I call it the Trans-Aerodynamic Rotational Diver In Space." ANNIES: "Whut?" KAT: "Let's go diving through infinity and find my Annie." .....Could it be?

So the options seem to be, like,
1. Time travel 2. Ether shenanigans (the Arrow again?) 3. More biorobotics of some kind 4. All of the above!
I still think, as per the Treatise, she is trying to find Original Annie, by means of finding her traces in the world (particularly her fingerprint on the moon). Her best friend is lost, she has shown she can invent incredible improbable devices to save her before. This is just a bigger problem than last time.

Obligatory long time lurker first time poster! I've been incredibly uneasy about this chapter since reading the title. It's a direct callback to Zimmy's conversation with Annie about the nature of reality and in specific what happened to Annie's father when he went down that road of trying to force the Ether, or the unseen, to perform to his expectations and bend to his will. He was not successful and very nearly destroyed his life beyond repair and all he held dear. I think there is a fundamental difference with Kat though. I think where Tony failed, Kat will succeed. Zimmy was terrified of her and saw her as a mechanical goddess all in armor. She looks like a conqueror. And I don't think that's an accident. What has Kat seen and what has she built? What would she build that she would want to keep hidden from the Annie's? I think she has used the Arrow to build a machine that can peer into the Ether. We already know the Arrow has the ability to do great destruction to the Ether, severing bonds and damaging reality itself. It would be child's play for someone like Kat to use it to push back the walls of her reality and to see what's outside. I think that what Kat discovered was the multiverse. A plurality of realities with a plurality of choices, showing all the different things that could have happened if someone had made choice x instead of choice y. Seeing this broke something in her. If time and space were so shifting and malleable what meaning does any choice have if it's opposite also exists? How could anyone forge any sort of path and not feel like a puppet? Are you the prime universe or just a universe that split off so that both choices could be represented? Do some choices cause splits and not others? Or do all choices? What are the rules? So, if Kat can't find the rules she will make the rules. She will make the unseen seen. She has knowledge and perspective Tony never had thanks to Annie. Instead of totally ignoring the Etheric point of view she has synthesized it with her own and this makes her dangerous. A potential warrior against the Ether. A conqueror. And the Court? They have been very aware of her actions. They have guided them silently for some time. Her ends are their ends. Or, even worse, she is their end, and the Omega project is not a machine but a person. A person who will achieve apotheosis and bring the Ether under the control of humankind. I am both looking forward to and dreading the Monday update. I hope my wild mass speculation is wildly off base and that there is something perfectly innocuous in the room that Kat has been hiding from Annie. I really don't want this chapter to be a parting of the ways. But I am afraid it's going to be.

Star Kindler Welcome to the Forum! I am honored to be here for your first post. I hope you hang around and fuel more conversations in the future. I think some of what you are theorizing is possible, but you also have to keep in mind that EPIC things in this comic are usually presented at a down-to-earth or personal level. Think back to the ROTD (Realm of the Dead) visit and how that went. This quote which is also Runningflame 's signature is always a good reminder: I think we keep collectively forgetting this isn't the kind of comic where ancient undead elves give powerful magic boons to the hero, it's a comic where a girl loses her hair clip and a zombie spends 50+ chapters trying to get it back to her.
