It isn't over until all that was set out to be accompished is done. We shall never know peace until whatserface gets her name.

...and then there were none.
I wonder if the Guides' parting remark was addressed to the entire party? We may find out at the end of the bip. Something to contemplate over the weekend.

I wonder how the Court reacts when they notice that the ravine is no longer an unstoppable barrier. Even if they did not monitor activities of Annie et co. (which is quite difficult to believe), it will take just one clueless critter from forest who passes through.

I might be misremembering things but this chapter seems to be one of the longest ones yet.
Otherwise.... eh, there really isn't much to comment on this page. A montage denouement, meant to transport us from this scene to the next.
I do wonder why Red's friend seems to be coming to Kat's aid in panel 2.

What if the bipping doesn't work like it should because of Smithface's wound, what if they bip 2 miles above their intended target?
Or no, wait, they bip right into the teacher's lounge!
NO NO, STRAIGHT INTO A WALL!!!
NO WAIT, I'VE GOT IT, THEY BIP TO THE PAST!!
On the more boring part, I can also imagine next page to be a final page with the same frames, but we see a shadow man, or some other forest creature manage to cross the Annan waters... Chapter symbol...

What I notice the most about this page is the lack of a chapter end marker..

Can we relax now? Can we? can we? can we? Time for an all-out war to decide who gets custody over Fire Head Girl: the psychopomps or Coyote! Or Anthony/the Court, but no one expects them to win control of her.

Imaginary Kat dialog: panel 1 (to Annie): "You OK? What the freak was THAT all about with the Pomps?" panel 2: "Hey guys, help me pick up Robot bits... they're all over the place!' panel 3: "Everybody got a handful? OK! Ready, Smitts!"

I might be misremembering things but this chapter seems to be one of the longest ones yet. This chapter itself is only 36 pages. This entire *arc*, on the other hand, has lasted several months. Page 1696, or the first page of chapter 59, was on July 13th of last year. And while that chapter was only 46 pages long, we had the treatise and the Tea/Tom page and then two weeks of City Face. 46 + 36 = 82 + 2 (treatise and Tea/Tom) = 84 + 6 (if we had had regular updates during City Face we would have gotten 6 more comics) = 90 For comparison, The Torn Sea, which is the longest chapter in the comic, was only 70 pages and the Anthony arc lasted 181 days while this one has lasted 205, if you consider this page the end of this arc (if you factor out the 2 weeks for City Face, it still clocks in at 191--10 days more than Anthony); all in all, this is the longest we've spent on a single arc so I don't at all blame you for feeling like it's taking forever. EDIT: wait did we spend more time with Anthony than Annie did??

I hope that Tom *doesn't* take the route of the forest-folk taking advantage of Jeanne and her lover being laid to rest to invade the Court. Such an approach would seem to justify the Founders' trapping two people in enturies of torment - an act that they recognized, deep down, to be wrong (as seen by their covering it up - aware that it was something they should be ashamed of - not to mention Diego's deathbed scene). Would we really want the comic to send that message?

Time for an all-out war to decide who gets custody over Fire Head Girl: the psychopomps or Coyote! Or Anthony/the Court, but no one expects them to win control of her. Not even a contest... Coyote, being a god, and not really existing anyway, is untouchable. Pomps lose in 3....2....1.... and Coyote giggles over a smoking pile of owl bits, dog fur, and shattered scythe pieces....

What names await? Violet? We still don't know the exact rules. Is it that she perceives she's being named, whether deliberate or not? Maybe, the anticipation of being named, caused her to be accidentally named "Duck!" Time for an all-out war to decide who gets custody over Fire Head Girl: the psychopomps or Coyote! Some of the psychopomps may be gods themselves. Some mythologically are. Also, the psychopomps make sure spirits go back to the Ether correctly, and ensure that "the world keeps turning". They may have some clout with Coyote. Which again begs the question, who is the psychopomp for the less-Etheric Forest Folk? Do they have a signal one? Does Coyote usher them on, by gobbling them up?(that some how seems appropriate)

So Tom is just going to keep us waiting on what exactly Annie has to do for the Psychopomps. I should have known...

What revelation remains for us to discover? Oh don't worry, I'm sure there will be absolutely zero repercussions from this. I mean repercussions beyond the fact that Annie has apparently just sold her soul to some really spooky guys.

Many people seem to be saying this, but I don't understand the great novelty of a jeanneless ravine. I mean, THE BRIDGE EXISTS. It gets crossed; sometimes even by those who aren't welcome. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=114www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=548So I can see how Jeanne mattered before there was a bridge, but now, what is the actual difference? EDIT: Surely if Jeanne were performing an important function, the Court would at least wonder who or what was doing their work for them?

If Jeanne is not there to keep the Court and Forest divided, neither side will be able to control who goes in and out nor will they have Decontaminating Procedure dance parties. I don't think that just because Annie, Smitty, and Parely are welcomed in the Forest (Annie because she is an honorary citizen and Smitty and Parley because they kind of have to for diplomacy) that they are more open to accepting people than the Court is.

Am I the only one kind of upset by the way Tom did all this? I don't want to see Annie forced into becoming a psychopomp to save Mighty Eyebrows. To be honest, I'd rather him have died. I don't like this turn at all.

EDIT: Surely if Jeanne were performing an important function, the Court would at least wonder who or what was doing their work for them? As everyone in the Court officialdom who knew about Jeanne is dead, the new leadership - observing that no forest creatures ever climbed out of the ravine to attack the Court - decided that the forest folk consider the ravine wall unclimbable. Now, the actual reason no such attacks occurred is gone... ... but it would still be pretty easy to defend against attackers climbing the ravine wall. Easier than it used to be. Nowadays they can use machine guns rather than being restricted to archers and swordswomen. And that wall, based on what we've seen, is easily eighty feet - taller than a huge majority of castle walls.
