Something just struck me: Reynard can move his soul from one body to another, leaving his previous host dead in the process, right? Surma did the same thing. Well, not exactly the same, obviously. It was a much slower process, and involved birthing a new body instead of stealing one. Nonetheless, there's just enough of a connection there to make me wonder if the fire elemental's original body is sleeping somewhere in the forest like Rey's. Intriguing theory, only thing though is that Renards body only exists because of divine intervention on the part of Coyote. Even Coyote doesn't know exactly who the ancestor was, other than that it was some kind of fire elemental. Coyote seems to have arrived in the Court area within the last 1,000 or 500 years (Renard and Ysengrin already existed, so it's relatively recent), so this proccess could have been going on for centuries or even a few millenia.

I don't if this is wild enough or if someone has already figured it out... However.
This "let's sneak out" adventure featured in chapter 34 is a master plan originally conspired by Lindsey, the accredited couples therapist!

Coyote intentionally escalated the original fights between the humans and the forest creatures so that he could trick them both, of course just like many of his stories, it backfired on him. hope that is wild enough

(I certainly think that part of the reason why he dug that chasm between the Court and the Wood was to encourage an "us vs. them" mentality - while also preventing the two factions from wiping each other out in a big battle, which would mean nobody left to trick.)

Hey all, I got tired of lurking/binging so I decided to take the plunge and register.
I feel the speculation has not nearly been wild enough lately so I have some of my own...
-Bud has a sweet collection of muscle cars he keeps garaged somewhere deep in the court and he occaisionally takes his '68 Charger for doughnuts in Young's Park when noone is around, driving by either telekinesis or an elaborate set of pullys, much to the consternation of Bob and Marcia. He will eventually be the one who teaches Kat to drive, ensuring her a lifetime of speeding fines.
-The Court appears so huge from the inside but not so big from the outside because it stretches into the ether as does the Gillitie Woods.
That is all for now, I can't remember the rest off the top of my head.

As for me...this has probably already been said, but I'll say it anyway: Ysengrin is in love with Coyote.

Ha! I do try, though I don't know how much Tom has for classic automobiles.
More speculation...
-The students in Chester and Foley are essentially lab rats for the court's etheric study. When it is said they have radically different studies to the rest of the school, it's basically just tests of their etheric nature.

What has happened during chapter 34? The relationship between Annie & Jack has apparently been normalized (from this to this). Matt told a story. Also; misconception was correctedPossibly this, too. I'm now convinced that Lindsay organized this! Possible Bud helped! Maybe Jack too! (Didn't he make the buzzers?)

I had clicked on "New" button for this topic and instead of taking me to the most recent new message, it took me to page one, but I did not immediately notice this and found two posts I had wanted to comment on and wrote them up. I then noticed that there were what amounted to an awful lot of new posts, and I then noticed I was on page one. Talk about getting the wind knocked out of you. I sat around for a bit, wondering if I shouldn't just delete what I had written. I decided not to. Please forgive me. ----------------------------------------------------------- 1) Eglamore is Annie's father! That would be quite the upset, wouldn't it? Especially if her supposed father knew about it and that was the reason for him ignoring Annie all along. I like Eglamore far so much more than Mr. Carver, and Annie deserves far better than cold-fish city. The fantasy proceeding from this would be that Annie would get really angry with him and possibly her mother, and then make up, get over it, and they would get along after that. Annie finally has a family member who cares about her. </warm fuzzy feelings> I will play a game of one-upmanship: Coyote is Annie's real father! Annie is one-half goddess, three-eighths human, and one-eighth fire elemental. She is destined to rule the world via fire and deception. All will love her and despair! The next chapter of Gunnerkrigg Court will be a musical. I wonder if Tom is also a genius composer on par with John Williams, John Barry, Elmer Bernstein, and Roger's and Hammerstein. It wouldn't surprise me. If so, I'd be happy to get a musical chapter.

So someone I know brought this up, and I thought I would ask, even though it's probably already been brought up (damn the shoddy search function)...
Is it generally theorized that Jeanne's lover went through the "test" to join the forest? And that's why Diego calls him a traitor? Which would then imply that the test existed even before Coyote split the Court and the Forest.

Both reasonable and possible, though perhaps it wasn't always called a test.

Okay first: I think that paz is secretly in love with Kat, which is why she assumed Kat was hitting on her, and that Robot will find out because he's been stalking her, and he will be jealous of Paz because she has more of a chance with Kat since she's human and all and because Robot definitely has a crush on kat. He will then kill Paz because of his jealously and the court will banish him, so he has to go to the forest, because there's nowhere else to go, and a whole new conflict will start between the court and the forest, because they weren't exactly happy about having technology stuff in the forest before.
Also, Eglamore is definitely Annie's dad. That's why Carver didn't like her. If she was his own daughter, he might have accepted the whole Surma's spirit being transferred to Annie thing, since they are essentially the same person. But Annie is a reminder of Surma's unfaithfullness. Also Coyote assumed Eglamore was her father, and Coyote tends to know stuff.

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I like the "Eglamore is Annie's dad" theory... it's just so... wild.
Time for some WILD speculation...
-Zimmy will take up Bass as a way to help her deal with her emotional issues and form a Metal band with John and Margo on guitar and Kat on drums, they will be named City Face and Coyote will scratch every tree with "City Face Rules!" to annoy Ysengrin and 'cos City Face rules, some of their covers will include
-"Ace of Spades" by Motorhead, because I imagine Zimmy sounds just like Lemmy
-"Check My Brian" by Alice in Chains, Zimmy's life story
-"Curl of the Burl" by Mastodon. Watch the video for it and tell me you don't imagine Ysengrin hauling ass around Gillitie Woods

By Carver I meant Anthony Carver, and "her" would be Annie. Oh and I came up with another theory: THE HEADMASTER IS A ZOMBIE. And so is Ms. Jones.

Jones just has everybody fooled. She's a totally normal lady, who wears heavy orthopedics to help with her posture, and can hold her breath for a while.

-All of the Protectors of the Court earnt their knighthood by serving as 'specialists' or 'etheric combat experts' in every conflict the United Kingdom has participated in eg; Sir Eglamore served in Kosovo, Sir Thorn in Vietnam or Malaysia, Sir Young in the war of American Independance (18th century).

If Annie is part fire elemental and that's why she can control fire, Jones must be part awesome elemental, because she can control awesome.

Hey! First time poster here. Just wanted to bounce some of my own theories off you guys, see what you think. 1. The young man that Renard killed is Mort. It would explain why Mort is so drawn to Annie, because he was previously courting Surma. 2. Zimmy was fairly normal when she came to court, but has been used as a science experiment by the court and has "gone wrong".

Thanks for playing!

Hello hello! 1. Hm. I like the moaning myrtle theory, but (and I can't seem to find it just flipping through) wasn't Reynard present for one of the duo's interactions with Mort? I can't remember, but I might be recalling a scene where Reynard is laughing at Annie for her mistreatment of Mort after the blinker stone incident... which would mean Reynard doesn't know him, or he's just being an ass in not even acknowledging the boy he killed. ...Which honestly I think could go either way. Especially because on a recent Formspring post Tom did say that Mort's death would be explored later in the comic, so there's obviously some relevance there! So cool idea. 2. Possible, but only if Jones is lying. Personally, I see Jones's statements similarly to Coyote's: she seems above outright lying, but you gotta take anything with a grain of salt.

As for me...this has probably already been said, but I'll say it anyway: Ysengrin is in love with Coyote. This is more canon than speculation. It's debatable whether the love is platonic or not (I think it's a non-romantic servanty-love-for-all-powerful-master kind of thing), but it's pretty much been confirmed, with the whole "I totally screwed up his life and made him all gross and old, but Ysengrin loves me very much!" on Coyote's part. Boxbot will team up with Cthulu and seek the destruction of the world, which can be prevented only by.... ROBOX.

I dunno. For me, something about the way Coyote says "Ysengrin loves me very much" gives me the impression of some sort of subtext there between them, along the lines of "Ysengrin loves me very much [...or else!]" Just like Coyote could have said during the summer: "Antimony guards my secrets closely!" (or she loses a hand)
