Annie's father lobotomized her. He removed the emotional center of her brain.
The next chapter will focus exclusively on her having to be a medium for the ghost of her own brain tissue. As well as her baby teeth. They're quite angry that she left them under her pillow. The tooth fairy did weird things to them. Awful things.

[T]here are two indications that the man was possessed in the Forest. One, Coyote says he took the guy's body and then disappeared into the Court, and two, the picture shows the already-possessed man crossing the bridge. Agreed, I was about to post that. Furthermore: The handsome young man's suit appears green. Green Guys crossing the Annan seem to be this comic's answer to the Red Shirt. His suit looks a lot like the formal dress Annie was wearing when she visited Coyote, doesn't it? Then he must have been an official envoy from the Court, maybe even another medium? However I believe I read somewhere that Surma was the only one, but I am not sure about it. But if it means that Coyote attacked a diplomat, that could account extra for the difficult relationship between both sides.

However I believe I read somewhere that Surma was the only one, but I am not sure about it. But if it means that Coyote attacked a diplomat, that could account extra for the difficult relationship between both sides. Maybe not. I used to think that because Eggers wears a similar (sport?) jacket in ch 14 and probably one other place I'm forgetting. But if that's the case wouldn't he have to be someone Surma knew, someone that she had official contact with as Court medium? "Oi Surma check it out, I just bodysnatched/killed that dude you work with. How you like me now?" Even if Surma hated the man and was okay with his death I am pretty sure she wouldn't then want to get it on with his bod at any point in the future! And why is he crossing the bridge at night? It looks like he's sneaking in. Maybe his cover got blown somehow, or people from the Court watched him jack the dude in the Woods, but I think it'd be way easier from Renard to grab someone random from the outside world (see my previous post for reasons). Since Jeanne's forest dude turned out to be green I think the "handsome young man" wearing green is just a nod to or foreshadowing of that. Actually, lots of people in this comic wear green.

Green's frequently a color associated with magic (and with the faerie-folk).

So with the revelation of today's thread, here's my guess as to what'll happen. Annie gets in trouble with Anja for spilling the beans. She gets in trouble with Kat for copying her notes. She's forced to stay in the Court for the summer again, while her best friend is angry with her.

Perhaps I'm not the first, but...
Central focus: Alchemy Main character has a friend that is adept at mechanics Main character has someone who they are close to who is trapped in an inhuman body There is some entity that endeavors to become god, figuratively or literally. Distant father, dead mother. Main character has a not-too-common ability.
The only honest theory part of this is that rey turns into a wolf next comic and rips off one leg and one arm, forcing kat to make robotic prosthetics.

I have a speculation all my own: Surma was not born naturally.
We know little of Surma besides that she died of an incurable disease and was not taken by any of the psychopomps. The psychopomps, as we know, determine who they take based on family origins/location. One possible explanation for their non-retrieval of Surma is that she was not born naturally, and was therefore of no particular place.
This is further supported by the fact that Word of Tom states that Annie has no relatives on her mother's side, though she has some on her Father's. Also, Annie and Surma both have hair unusual for their world color, perhaps implying an unusual origin. Perhaps Surma's death was the unescapable result of her birth.
I can't pretend to know HOW she was born. She was before clones, so perhaps it was an etheric process of some kind?

Near the end of the story, when all the conflicts have come to a head, the story will climax with Reynardine trying to kill Antimony. And Ysengrin will kill him, saving Annie's life.
What a tweeest!

Hey, I wouldn't call that wild speculation, haha. It was kind of on the borderline for going on the this thread or the current comic thread. I figured I would probably belong here, since I really was just shooting in the dark.

Warning: this is sad wild speculation.... Anthony, after spending 12 years trying to cure his wife and failing, falls into a severe depression. He's secretly glad his daughter will be safe at school while he regains his composure. He wouldn't want her to see him like this. His entire life, he's managed to keep his emotions in check but now its just too much for him. He starts failing at his job so before he gets fired or kills someone through neglect, he leaves. He'll tell Annie about it when he gets better and back on his feet again. After a year with no great success at beating the depression, he's thinking, "Maybe she'll be better off without me... Donald and Anja will watch over her... they're probably better parents than I was..."

Wild theory: Since everyone's favorite fox shares a name with this guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renard_%28James_Bond%29) who seduced a pretty woman, Renard will go berserk and blow up Istanbul using a nuke in an oil pipeline.
Jack becomes a double-0 agent and kills Renard on a submarine while Coyote sits in his volcano base stroking a white cat. Kat assumes the role of Q, while Jones serves as M.

Maybe Surma was cursed with her illness for her trickery and never again allowed to return to the woods. Anthony tried to save her by moving her as far away from the woods as he could, but the illness still got the better of her in the end.

Mort's job is literally to scare people. Why would he have a job like that?
I think its because the guides are not 100% effective in their guiding responsibilities. Jeanne slipped through the cracks, Surma was left behind, and that kid couldn't be claimed until he chose a guide.
Back to Mort... I think he scares people as a preemptive warning to the living: 'be afraid of ghosts' He scares people before they meet a dangerous ghost like Jeanne.
Annie was never scared by Mort and didn't know she should be wary of Jeanne.

The teachers finally figure out that Annie's been copying off of Kat when Kat answers a question "I do not know the answer" and Annie writes "Neither do I".

Teacher #1 (guy that looks like Frollo) will discover her cheating in double physics, and will force her into summer school. Jack teaches the class as a summer job when his dad doesn't need him. Stuff happens. The Donlans visit a bird sanctuary while on vacation.
Other Speculated Future Events: Basil returns from Greece, Boxbot steals Robot's new body, Coyote transforms to seduce Jones for the lulz.

Clearly Antimony is descended from a phoenix who passed the test. Just like all the rest. But never really understood the reasons why it took it in the first place.

Not really wild speculation, but I have a feeling that one day Tom will reveal what the Court is, by the characters finding out with CLUES.
And then the clues will become painfully obvious to us like, "Why didn't we get that?"

And then the clues will become painfully obvious to us like, "Why didn't we get that?" There are so many little obscure clues that can be interpreted in many different ways so I don't think we'll be saying, "How did we miss that??" More like after we learn something, we'll go back through the story and say, "Look, I found a clue that's been here all along!" We just won't know its a clue until later.
